The Science of Getting Rich, by Wallace Delois Wattles

Review "...His is a gentle philosophy which excludes competition and cheating, and encourages cooperation." -- Publishers Weekly

From the Publisher This classic Wallace D. Wattles title has often been compared to Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, and many believe they act as excellent companion titles. Individuals who have read books by Robert Allen, Suze Orman or David Bach will find often find this title to as well be of interest.

From the Author The man who owns all he wants for the living of all the life he is capable of living is rich; and no man who has not plenty of money can have all he wants. Life has advanced so far, and become so complex, that even the most ordinary man or woman requires a great amount of wealth in order to live in a manner that even approaches completeness. Every person naturally wants to become all that they are capable of becoming; this desire to realize innate possibilities is inherent in human nature; we cannot help wanting to be all that we can be. Success in life is becoming what you want to be; you can become what you want to be only by making use of things, and you can have the free use of things only as you become rich enough to buy them. To understand the science of getting rich is therefore the most essential of all knowledge.

In writing this book I have sacrificed all other considerations to plainness and simplicity of style, so that all might understand. The plan of action laid down herein was deduced from the conclusions of philosophy; it has been thoroughly tested, and bears the supreme test of practical experiment; it works. If you wish to know how the conclusions were arrived at, read the writings of the authors mentioned above; and if you wish to reap the fruits of their philosophies in actual practice, read this book and do exactly as it tells you to do.

THIS BOOK WILL TRANSFORM YOUR MIND & YOUR LIFE By Happy Bunny Ladies and Gentlemen, this book will without any doubt change your life, by changing your mind about the concept of "money". So many of us were brought up with the idea of money as a finite resource, which you had to compete for. This book is desgined to release every preconcieved idea that is holding us all back from wealth. The basic premise of this book is that becoming wealthy is a science, that once understood, and replicated will create wealth in everyone's life. Wealth is as infinite as the creative mind. Create ideas, take action and abundance will flow.I have read over 200 books on success and wealth, before I read this book. Nothing I had read upto this point had such an incrediblely profound effect on my wealth, because it changed my misconceptions on what it took to become wealthy. Within ten months of applying these principles and concepts, I had expedentially increased my income to levels that would had been unthinkable 12 months earlier.I would reccomend that every student of this book, also read, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, Money is Easy by Larry Winget, The Einstien Factor Wenger & Poe, Psyco Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz & Born Rich by Bob Proctor. All these books will enhance your understanding of this incredible book. The ideas and concepts, once studied and applied will transform your mental approach to money. This is a book that will take you a day to read, but a life-time to understand fully. Give it serious study, and I guarantee you success

Practical, Hands-on Assistance; and Many Original Ideas By A Customer This new release is a reprint of the original 1910 edition of Wallace Wattles' guide to financial success and personal growth. Make sure that you get the new 2002 Iceni Books edition, and not some of the other versions that are around, which have been made unusable by editing. Wattles' book is a true classic in the genre, and it has been mentioned along with such other classics like George Clason's "The Richest Man In Babylon" and Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich." It was always a surprise to me, that this book, in full original title "The Science of Getting Rich or Financial Success Through Creative Thought," is less well-known than the titles mentioned above. While Clason's book, in the essence, is a tale about the workings of exponential growth, and Hill's book is little more than the repetition of the formula, "whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve," in Wattles' book there is much more to be found.Wattles, like Hill, also emphasizes the importance of using one's power of thought, and one's willpower, as an indispensable ingredient on the way to get rich. But Wattles with his suggestions is way ahead of Hill, because he does not think exclusively along egoistical lines, as does Hill. Throughout the book he warns the reader of acquiring riches in a competitive way, and strongly advises to do any business in a creative way instead. He asserts that the reader should never compete for what is already there, but should instead create something of value, be it a product, or a service. This thought alone is a revelation. Wattles makes unmistakably clear that only in that way it is possible for everyone to get rich. Instead of keeping others down by competition, if you strive to get rich in a creative way, you inspire other people to do so as well, and open up a way for others to follow.Besides this thought, which is original in how to get rich, and self-help literature, Wattles has much other original, yet always practical, advice for his readers, like how to best get into the right business, how to direct thoughts and actions purposefully, how to convey the impression of personal growth, and much more. I am issuing here, however, some kind of a warning to you: Wattles grounds his science on the ideas of oriental philosophies, which state that there exists one original substance in the universe, where all things originate from. To back up that notion, he mentions that this idea was also held by many western philosophers, like Hegel, and Emerson, and requires the reader to accept the truth of this notion by faith. I cannot say that I am a believer in the one substance, and still, I have learned some of my most important lessons from Wattles. So do not be put off by that esoteric concept, but concentrate instead on the solid foundations of financial and personal success that Wattles hands over to you. I am convinced that Wattles in this book says all that you need for success.

Yep -- The Best Ever By Bible Belt Unbuckler I watched the first twenty minutes of the DVD of "The Secret" (it's offered free on their website), and thought it was really hokey. It felt like they were trying to make a "Da Vinci Code" production out of it. To my knowledge, no "authorities throughout history" have ever tried to keep "the Secret" (i.e., the Law of Attraction) from humanity. But I was curious about the book that inspired "The Secret's" creator, so I checked out Wallace Wattles' "The Science of Getting Rich."Wow! And Super-Wow! Wattles has nailed all the self-help books (all the great ones anyway) that I've ever read and put it all in one slim volume. And I can state confidently, "This is the foundational book for fulfilling your life. You'll never need to read another one about 'getting the life you want.'"For those of you who doubt, or just plain ridicule, the idea that you can get what you want by simply focusing on it and ceasing to focus on what you DON'T want, I recommend this experiment:For one week, carry two little notepads with you, everywhere you go. Each notepad should have a different colored cover so they're easily identifiable. Label one "Positive" and the other "Negative."As you go through your week, every time you hear, see or feel something positive in your surroundings, put a check mark in the "Positive" notepad. Every time you hear, see or feel something negative in your surroundings, put a checkmark in the "Negative" notepad. Do this for EVERYTHING you take in, whether it involves you personally or not--chats with friends, news reports, conversations you overhear on the bus, etc. If you're taking it in, put a checkmark in the appropriate notepad.Be sure, especially, to include all the entertainment you see or hear. Be conscious of the story, the lyrics, etc. Is the message negative about life no matter how hilarious or thought-provoking it is? (A great example would be "Borat.") If so, put a checkmark in the "Negative" notepad. At the end of the week, total the checkmarks in each notepad. If you have more negative checkmarks than positive ones (and I suspect you'll have many more), ask yourself how you can possibly get ANYTHING you want from life when you're taking in all that negativity, day after day? The answer is, you can't--because you don't have the Life Energy for it. All that negativity is draining it out of you.By focusing only on what your heart desires, and believing unconditionally that those things are yours to have, you connect to the Universe which gave you those desires in the first place, and intends for you to fulfill them, in the name of Creation. As Wattles says again and again, the Universe wants you to have these things even more than you do. But you can't connect to the Universe as long as you're filling your head with the noise and negativity of the outside world."The Science of Getting Rich" will show you exactly how to "tune out and tune in," so you can have the wonderful life you were created for.Give it a try. The only thing you've got to lose is a life you never wanted in the first place.

Review

“This well-researched venture reveals the human side of the Civil War...Ural's fine combination of military history and personal saga uses original documents to excellent effect.” ―Publishers Weekly

“The author highlights the social and cultural history of the American Civil War by linking new, rare accounts of families and ordinatry citizens who witnessed the war with a compelling contextual analysis of the period.” ―Military History Quarterly

“Taking her sources as her co-authors, Susannah Ural ferries us deep inside the maelstrom of the Civil War to its very heart, where we realize anew that war is not a sequence of battles but a vast mosaic of heart-rending family crises. Beautifully written, exhaustively researched, and highly recommended.” ―Professor Stephen Berry, Gregory Professor of the Civil War Era, University of Georgia

“Susannah J. Ural's Don't Hurry Me Down to Hades masterfully recounts the Civil War, relying on the voices of the people who experienced it. Her narrative captures its vastness and violence, moving North to South, battlefield to homefront, but also poignant moments of intimacy and loss… The result is a fresh and engaging account of the conflict.” ―Lesley J. Gordon, Editor, Civil War History

“Susannah J. Ural reminds us that the Civil War was fought by real people with families and deep emotional connections... This is the Civil War as lived experience, vibrantly and movingly written.” ―Professor Anne Sarah Rubin, author of A Shattered Nation

“In this dramatic, expertly conceived and executed work, editor Ural deftly weaves the words and lives of the participants into a narrative of rare depth and insight. What she achieves is to go beyond the simple daily routines of the historical actors, as the powerful letters and journals she includes give readers a sense of the internal struggles that flowed through every facet of the war and society itself. And if the participants' words and the editor's remarkable prose and historical knowledge were not enough, the work also contains a most impressive and generous set of high-resolution plates. For Civil War enthusiasts and historians of the era, this is a must read. Summing Up: Essential.” ―T. Maxwell-Long, California State University, San Bernardino, CHOICE Magazine

“Gracefully written and powerfully argued, Don't Hurry Me Down to Hades offers an eye-opening new perspective on the Civil War's social and cultural history.” ―Professor Amy Murrell Taylor, author of The Divided Family in Civil War America

Billionaire Luke Devereaux gets what he wants and what he wants right now is to bring down the shady organization threatening his family. Teaming up with the FBI is his only option--even if that option comes in the sultry Evelyn Price, the ice-princess who's all business. Refusing to be distracted by the sexy, rich playboy, Evelyn forces herself to stay focused on the case, gearing up for the criminal takedown of her entire career. As the enemy closes in with Evelyn as its next target, it's up to Luke to keep them out of danger. The more they work to protect each other, and fight for control, the harder it is to resist their undeniable attraction. And the one thing Evelyn has learned from working with him is that Luke Devereaux gets what he wants. Author's Note: This was previously book 6 in the Billionaires in the City Series (Testing The Boss). Since the last four books all focused on one family, I wanted to break up the series and make sure the Devereauxs really had their chance to shine.

By The eBook Investigator ****4.5 Star Review****Mallory Crowe does it again with book six, 'Testing the Boss' of the 'Billionaires in the City' series. This is a great read that I highly recommend. This is the second book in this series that concentrates on the Devereaux brothers. We met two of them in book four when they were trying to protect their cousin, Emma. In book seven the third brother, Rourke, will be featured as he has been estranged from his brothers for years.Arrogant, self-confident, conceited, and handsome as sin Luke Devereaux is a confirmed bachelor who prefers one night stands or short-term hook-ups. Commitment is not in his vocabulary and he is perfectly content to have beautiful, loose-moraled models on his arm and in his bed. He is working closely with the FBI, picking up where his brother left off, to bring down a financial crime organization to protect the lives of his family and others at risk. The sultry Evelyn Price, FBI lead on this investigation, rubs him the wrong way and the feeling is mutual. They can hardly tolerate being in each others company so he avoids her at all cost. Unfortunately, that does not lend to success when fighting crime. Dislike or hate is definitely not what these two are fighting. They are at war with the undeniable heat and passion they evoke in each other. Evelyn's job becomes one of protection, shadowing Luke twenty-four-seven, keeping him safe until they bring down the bad guys. When both their lives are in danger they work diligently to protect each other. Resisting their attraction becomes their greatest conflict.Wow, another great read! Please start at the beginning of this series. You will have a greater understanding of how these people connect which makes a much more interesting and easy-to-understand story.I received this as an Advanced Reader Copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Great series By MAustin Testing the Boss, the 6th book in the Billionaires in the City series is a great 5 star read.Romance, Hot Alpha, Strong Female, SuspenseThe door to his office opened and he looked up, half expecting to see Cali standing there again. But it wasn't’ Cali. It was his worst nightmare. This is Luke and Evelyn’s story. The relationship between Luke and Evelyn is bitter, but the sexual tension runs high. Evelyn is an FBI agent who finds herself in New York working as an intern in Luke’s office while he tries to infiltrate the Thirteen Stars. Luke starts to take a liking to Evelyn, and tries to break through her barriers. As things move forward Evelyn finds herself very attracted to Luke and can no longer to resist him. The sex is very intense between them, you can feel something building. Will Evelyn be able to say goodbye and go back to Texas? While reading this book my mind was always trying to figure out who the rat could be. Also the love, hate thing between Evelyn and Luke in the beginning was great. There are moments of mystery and suspense. The story is entertaining, and full of twist and turns with plenty of drama, betrayal and emotion; The secondary characters include several of the previous storyline couples and characters:I’ve never been one to half-a$$ things. I tend to dive straight in.Testing the Boss can be read as a stand alone, however I would recommend reading the series in order as the threats and plots against the family continue to build throughout each storyline. Each of the storylines is interconnected with the characters crossing over between installments. Testing the Boss does end with a little cliffhanger. Thank you Mallory for another great read. Can’t wait for the next installment.ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by MAustin from Alpha Book Club. [...]

TESTING THE BOSS is the sixth installment in Mallory Crowe’s contemporary, adult BILLIONAIRES IN THE CITY romantic, suspense series. This is CEO billionaire Luke Devereaux, and FBI agent Evelyn Price’s storyline. Although TESTING THE BOSS can be read as a stand alone I would recommend reading the series in order as the threats and plots against the family continue to build throughout each storyline. Each of the storylines is interconnected with the characters crossing over between installments.Told from dual third person perspectives (Luke and Evelyn) TESTING THE BOSS is a revealing storyline that begins to expose the people behind the threats against the Devereaux family. The group known as the Thirteen Stars, a white-collar criminal ring, has been trying to get Luke Devereaux on their side. With the assistance of the FBI, and the undercover presence of Evelyn Price, Luke tries to ferret out information about the high powered businesses and the people involved. What ensues is the collapse of the undercover operation and several attempts on Luke and Evelyn’s lives as someone is always one step ahead of Luke and Evelyn’s plans. Evelyn has her suspicions; Luke is oblivious but hints at a possible suspect; this reader was spot on with the guilty party(s) involved. The initial relationship between Luke and Evelyn is caustic and bitter, but the sexual tension runs high throughout the story. Evelyn is an FBI agent who wants nothing to do with privileged rich boys with too much time on their hands who want to play cops and robbers. Already recovering from a gunshot wound, Evelyn finds herself in New York ‘babysitting’ Luke Devereaux while he tries to infiltrate the Thirteen Stars. Luke, on the other hand, takes an immediate liking to the acerbic FBI agent, and tries to break through Evelyn’s barriers and walled heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, although our heroine believes she has crossed the line between her job and her heart. The secondary characters include several of the previous storyline couples and characters: Emma Devareaux and Jace Lance: Michael Devereaux and Lori Briggs; and Luke’s assistant Cali who keeps her finger on the pulse of everything in Luke’s personal and business life. The world building continues to focus on the threats against the Devereaux family and their billion dollar enterprise DevX that provides cyber protection software to some of the largest defense contractors in the USA. The group known as the Thirteen Stars continues to pursue the Devereaux family and with Luke’s storyline some of the missing information as to the who, what and why is slowly revealed. This particular ARC of the series began in book four (Trusting the Boss). TESTING THE BOSS ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.Mallory Crowe’s BILLIONAIRES IN THE CITY is a series focusing on white-collar crime, intrigue and high stakes revenge. There are moments of mystery and suspense, wrapped in a building romance between two people whose lives have crossed paths time and again. The premise is entertaining, and full of twist and turns with plenty of drama, betrayal and emotion; the characters are likeable and well developed- strong willed and independent thinkers; the romance is a build up to a profession of love. Mallory Crowe’s BILLIONAIRES IN THE CITY is a high stakes, who-dun-it, where revenge is the ultimate sin.

A very insightful look at the VA and some of it's long term housing facilities. George Woodruff does a great relating his experience as a resident of one such facility that treats it's residents well and is a good model for other facilities to follow. George himself has a very interesting past, in and out of the military. A good read, highly recommended.

Read Ebook The Korean War: The Chinese Intervention (U.S. Army in the Korean War), by Richard W. Stewart

The Korean War was the first major armed clash between Free World and Communist forces, as the so-called Cold War turned hot. The half-century that now separates us from that conflict, however, has dimmed our collective memory. Many Korean War veterans have considered themselves forgotten, their place in history sandwiched between the sheer size of World War II and the fierce controversies of the Vietnam War. The recently built Korean War Veterans Memorial on the National Mall and the upcoming fiftieth anniversary commemorative events should now provide well-deserved recognition. The Korean War still has much to teach us: about military preparedness, about global strategy, about combined operations in a military alliance facing blatant aggression, and about the courage and perseverance of the individual soldier. The modern world still lives with the consequences of a divided Korea and with a militarily strong, economically weak, and unpredictable North Korea. The Korean War was waged on land, on sea, and in the air over and near the Korean peninsula. It lasted three years, the first of which was a seesaw struggle for control of the peninsula, followed by two years of positional warfare as a backdrop to extended cease-fire negotiations. The following is one of five accessible and readable studies designed to enhance understanding of the U.S. Army’s role and achievements in the Korean conflict.

By DChavezR6 A lot of people don't understand that most of the Korean War involved combat between American and Chinese Soldiers, and that the US Army was actually forced to withdraw from North Korea during November 1950 because of Chinese tactical victories at the Chongchon River and the Chosin Reservoir. This commemorative brochure details of both of those battles, as well as the major decisions of senior American commanders, in a simple but well written manner. You don't have to be a military expert to pick this up, read it, and understand it. I highly recommend it.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Too brief By Leonard Olp It's just an outline of the main events surrounding the Chinese intervention. Too much is left unsaid and unexplained. As an outline of the highlights, it's okay.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, is perhaps America's favorite author. A quick-witted humorist who wrote travelogues, letters, speeches, and most famously the novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876), and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885), Twain was so successful that he became America's biggest celebrity by the end of the 19th century. Despite writing biting satires, he managed to befriend everyone from presidents to European royalty.

Life on the Mississippi, by Mark Twain

Review Memoir of the steamboat era on the Mississippi River before the American Civil War by Mark Twain, published in 1883. The book begins with a brief history of the river from its discovery by Hernando de Soto in 1541. Chapters 4-22 describe Twain's career as a Mississippi steamboat pilot, the fulfillment of a childhood dream. The second half of Life on the Mississippi tells of Twain's return, many years after, to travel the river from St. Louis to New Orleans. By then the competition from railroads had made steamboats passe, in spite of improvements in navigation and boat construction. Twain sees new, large cities on the river, and records his observations on greed, gullibility, tragedy, and bad architecture. -- The Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia of Literature

From the Publisher 8 1.5-hour cassettes

From the Back Cover Part travel book, part autobiography, and part social commentary, Life on the Mississippi is a memoir of the cub pilot's apprenticeship, a record of Twain's return to the river and to Hannibal as an adult, a meditation on the harsh vagaries of nature, and a study of the varied and sometimes violent activities engaged in by those who live on the river's shores.

Allen Greenbaum This book--at times disjointed, rambling, self-referential, and irreverent--is decades ahead of its time. It's an interdisciplinarian's dream as Twain takes on economics, geography, politics, ancient and contemporary history, and folklore with equal ease. Mostly though, one appreciates his knack for exaggeration, the tall tale, and the outright lie. It's a triumph of tone, as he lets you in on his wild wit, his keen observation, and his penchant for bending the truth without losing his credibility as a guide. The book's structure is also modern: He recounts his days as a paddlewheel steam boat "cub," piloting the hundreds of miles of the Mississippi before the Civil War, then, in Part 2, returns to retrace his paddleboat route. Although a few of his many digressions don't work (they sometimes sound formulaic or too detailed) most of the narrative is extremely entertaining. Twain seems caught between admiration and disdain for the "modern" age-but he also rejects over-sentimentality over the past. He writes with beauty and cynicism, verve and humor. Very highly recommended!

The attention to detail and description place you within the story. This book is actually, I believe, an autobiography of Mark Twain's (Samuel Clemmons) life as a young man piloting steamboats up and down the Mississippi River.Whether the man, Mark Twain, interests you or not, Life on the Mississippi, is an eye opening look at America in an earlier era.In my (humble) opinion this is Mark Twain's best work.

Smith Let me guess: your total exposure to Mark Twain came in high school, when you were forced to read about the antics of Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer, right? Well, now that you've reached adulthood, you should make time to read _Life on the Mississippi_. It's mandatory reading if you live in a state that borders the great river, anywhere from Minnesota down to Louisiana. It's mandatory reading if you have come to that point in life when you can suddenly appreciate American history and post-Civil War stories written by someone who lived through that time. Writing in the first half of the 1870s, Twain retraces the steps of his youth: the watery highway he knew when he trained to be a riverboat pilot nearly 20 years earlier. He speaks of how life _was_ along the river, and what life _became_. It's almost a "you can't go home again" experience for him, while the reader gets the benefit of discovering both time periods. I have two favorite parts that I share with others. Chapter IX includes a wonderful dissertation about how learning the navigational intricacies of the river caused Twain to lose the ability to see its natural beauty. And Chapter XLV includes an assessment of how the people of the North and the South reacted differently to the war experience. If I were a social studies teacher, I'd use that last passage in a unit on the reconstruction period. So put this title on your vacation reading list, and don't fret: the chapters are short and are many -- 60! -- but you can stop at any time, and the words go by fast. _Life on the Mississippi_ should make you forget all about any Twain trauma and report-writing you may have suffered as a teenager.
