This tale of the war no one wants to talk about is done in a very personal and refreshing way in this book. E.P. Moore obviously lived through that war in order to tell the story so well... so personally. I enjoyed this book. It is written in a fashion of one's journal in parts, while taking me back to present day where a conversation between grandfather and grandson is taking place. It is a unique way to tell the story. I read Mr. Moore's first book, Out of Da Nang, too. These two books make great companion reads!! I recommend it.

By not joking You know, I tried to like this. Initially I was almost thrilled. The heroine was a thinker and a bit funny, sarcastic. The hero was the great alpha male who instantly recognized this BBW as his soul mate. But, hours later, at 64% I was done. This couple STILL wasn't together (no sex) and the heroine was going to an alien planet while the hero - who had been actually looking forward to spending her off alone to a different alien planet - goes off in a different direction. No one is in love. They are miserable together in public and private. Everything is internal thoughts as they say nothing to each other. They were never together but now dramatically and with great angst mourn what might have been as they think of how great sex together could have been ... because they had WEEKS or months of opportunity which they filled with silently living together. There are no gifts, no attempts to woo or court, no flirtation, no trading of favorite memories or customs, no attempts to get to know each other. Seriously. If this is a romance, it was written by ... well, I gave up reading and wrote this review. I assume they get together in the last 10 pages, all is forgiven and forgotten, then HEA. Yeah right.

14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Diego - capable of almost-poetry. Who knew? By kyrais Score is more like a 3.5, but I rounded down instead of up this time.I did mostly enjoy the story - there were many, many laugh out loud moments because Isolde really is funny and her commentary is not to be missed. There are also many sweet and tender moments - Diego says the most lovely things, almost unimaginable coming from him. What I did find problematic was that just as Isolde herself points out at one point, she doesn't really even know why she's fighting him. So when the heroine herself tells you that she's not quite sure what the conflict is all about -- well, Houston, we might have a problem. That bit IS ameliorated by the fact that I know why I would have fought him: the stuff that Diego kept from her was really not okay and the fact that she was only spared a truly horrific fate because she was his fated one was also really not okay and the whole thing the Brions did was also supremely not okay.I also thought that her original stance on not wanting to just fall into fate was a good one, but I was disappointed that she never ends up trying to do anything about it. She's upset at him, but there's very little communication, and there's a lot of angst, but neither of them seem to actually make good strides towards resolving it.Whereas I disagree that there was nothing going on between them, I do think that I felt a lot of their making up in the end felt a lot more lust-based than sitting down and going "well, let's hash this all out". The dual POV helps; it really does, but only in so far as making the HEA believable for me rather than something I can really cheer for. I would have dearly loved to see them actually talk to each other, for Isolde to talk to him about what went down and for Diego to respond. Although, given the Brion way, I can kind of see Diego's method of just trying to atone. He effed up. His people effed up. Not much to say there, so might as well move along and just try to put things right. Yeah, I'm really on the fence about this.So there was a lot of politics and world-building and lots of interesting things going on. I really appreciated that this book (long, too) wasn't just war and love/lust and so forth and I look forward to seeing the next person to fell a Brion warrior. I see that it's going to be the enigmatic and strong-silent Faren. Can't wait.I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My only concern is that 75% of the book was over before the couple actually got together. This is a nice size book I would have liked a little bit of romance in action to have occurred at least 45 to 50% of the book. However it was not a bad read. Definitely a solid three stars.

Review Review of the paper: Testing out an advance copy of The Goddess Book so I can get a feel for the paper. The goal was to have it high quality, strong and durable for markers and gel pens as well as pencils. The paper is bright white for the best coloring, thick with a slow absorption rate so that inks can't bleed through to the page below. Pencils glide over easily, and blending is a breeze. Markers flow brilliantly onto the paper in rich tones. Gel pens do need a few minutes to dry, so take your time working with them. I like to think of them more as controlled paints, so allow gel pens to dry in sections, so that you don't smear them under your hand or if you close the book. Once dried, their colors take on a paint feel and set very vividly. Overall, as the paper is made for coloring, it allows all colors to retain a lovely vibrancy. --Monica Richards, artist

The paper is very thick so my markers did not bleed through. Each page is perforated and it comes with a piece of cardboard to put behind the page in case your markers might bleed through. One picture on the right side of each page and on the back is the goddess name and her description. This is an excellent book to spend an afternoon with!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. More Images Please By L. J. Walker Just two complaints: Not enough images to color; thick black outlines. I was expecting more images, so the book seemed a little "thin". However, I'm glad, overall, to have found this coloring book and look forward to spending relaxing hours coloring.

I started coloring while listening to a book. Very helpful distraction from depression for a couple hours.

Cleopatra, the last Ptolemaic Queen, passed into legend, and history traduced and maligned her as an infamous woman, given to sexual excess and capable of every perfidy. The truth was quite different. She was a woman of infinite courage and political resource. From the age of eighteen until her death she had fought to free her country from the iron dominance of Rome and to secure its inheritance for the son of her first lover Julius Caesar. It was right that she should be buried in Alexandria, for in her spirit and in her ambition she was worthy of Alexander himself. The subject of biography and tragedy, Queen Cleopatra remains a subject to which historians are attracted two thousand years after her glorious but doomed life. Had Julius Caesar not been murdered, Cleopatra might well have become the empress of Rome and all the Mediterranean world, living to see it ruled by a Julian-Ptolemaic dynasty. The ‘Queen of the Nile’ was seventeen when she took to the throne of Egypt in 51BC. This ambitious young woman, initially married to her younger brother and co-ruler Ptolemy XIII, watched the savage struggle between Caesar and Pompey, hoping that Rome would destroy itself in the process. A politician as well a monarch, Cleopatra was determined to save Egypt from being overcome by Rome in its most Golden Age. Her political intentions were clear in her amorous conquests of both Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. The latter was defeated at the Battle of Actium in 31BC. Ernle Bradford uses ancient sources to piece together the life of the Queen, and reflects on portraits of her throughout history. ‘Cleopatra’ is a thorough biography of one of the most fascinating figures in history. Ernle Bradford (1922-1986) was a British historian noted for his specialisation in the Mediterranean World and naval subjects. His works include numerous biographies of military figures and books about the ancient and medieval worlds. Endeavour Press is the UK's leading independent digital publisher. But I think that is the rate fair enough if I base the quality on the time this was written.Otherwise it is a bit lackluster. It is an overview. But the chief flaw is that it never really looks at Cleopatra as other than her and her realm's relationship with Rome. It really lacks any real looks at her and Egypt except in the most general sense. Julius Caesar, Mark Antony and Augustus all get a stronger and more in depth look.Part of this seems hindsight. While Rome did figure largely throughout Cleopatra's life, it seems the focus is a "winner's" edit since it never looks at the subject in the "now" of her time. While Rome did loom largely, Cleopatra did seem to build Egypt into a powerhouse and this glosses over the matter. It also never looks at Cleopatra as someone who acts for Egypt or herself unless it touches on Rome. All in all I found this disappointing. Dated and rather too Roman-centric.

Scholarly book that tells of Cleopatra's life By A customer Cleopatra by Ernle Bradford is a scholarly book that tells about how Queen Cleopatra tried to save her country. The premise of his book can be neatly summed up as the author writes at the end of his book Cleopatra was a woman of great courage and not a woman known for perfidy. At the end of his book you'll find a select biography, if you wish to do more research into Cleopatra's life.Recommend.Review written after downloading a galley from NetGalley.

Steg Cleopatra by Ernle Bradford gives a decent overview of the last Ptolemaic queen of Egypt, insight into who she really was, and her relationships first with Julius Caesar and later with Mark Anothony. There's no doubt that Cleopatra was a powerful woman, with a keen political mind, who would do anything to secure the future of her dynasty - ultimately to no avail.*I received an advanced readers copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*

A soldier as dashing in appearance as Murat, as brave as Ney, as eagle-eyed as Masséna. At the time this biography was written, over half of Europe’s reigning monarchs numbered among their ancestors the Gascon Sergeant Bernadotte. Jean Bernadotte served as King Louis XVI’s Regiment of Marines. In the ranks of nobility, Bernadotte was the most complex personality of all Napoleon’s marshals. A staunch Jacobin, Bernadotte convinced himself that he should be King of France; though an undoubted hero, he nonetheless narrowly missed some of the famous battles. He was a political intriguer, but he was willing to accept a walk-on part in the major drama of a restless decade. His personal life was equally full of anomalies, not least that strange mutual loyalty which preserved a marriage to Napoleon’s first love, Desirée Clary, through a dozen years of separation. Bernadotte was in France while Napoleon fought in Italy. From there Palmer writes of his struggles with the Consul, Emperor and generalissimo, of the battles of Austerlitz and Wagram, and of Leipzig where, as the elected Crown Prince of Sweden, he fought against his old chief. He then became the King of Sweden under the title Carl XIV Johan. Alan Palmer’s detailed portrait was the first comprehensive English biography in over half a century, and draws from a great deal of contemporary research by French and Swedish biographers.

Praise for Alan Palmer

Great Book By Cptcarter726 I Rated this book 5 stars because although it is not as comprehensive as the older biography of Bernadotte, it still explains the entirety of his life simply and concisely. Bernadotte's life story is truly a great one. From Private soldier to King, how could you not find it interesting?

Leopold is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. This means that we have checked every single page in every title, making it highly unlikely that any material imperfections – such as poor picture quality, blurred or missing text - remain. When our staff observed such imperfections in the original work, these have either been repaired, or the title has been excluded from the Leopold Classic Library catalogue. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, within the book we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic work, and that for you it becomes an enriching experience.
