Between 1977 and 1980, photographer Charles H. Traub (born 1945) ventured onto the streets of Chicago, New York and various European cities to take photographs of their inhabitants--male and female, young and old-at lunchtime. Colorful and direct, animated and intimate, the portraits are shot close to the subjects, composed seemingly off-the-cuff, focusing on just their heads and shoulders. Each subject reveals something of himself or herself to the camera: the woman who takes the opportunity to pose in dignified profile or the one who purses her lips in an exaggerated pout, even the somewhat less fortunate subjects caught adjusting their glasses or blinking. Charles H. Traub: Lunchtime is the first comprehensive publication of these striking color images, which were exhibited in the early 1980s in Chicago, New York and Milan. This volume maintains the cheerfulness and joy of the series, with lively pairings of photographs encouraging viewers to associate one individual with another in a new narrative of the street.

Review [Traub's portraits] present lunchtime characters like species of butterfly in an entomologist’s shadow box...their personalities fixed to the page in extravagant, often merciless, detail. (The New Yorker)...Traub captured a disarmingly intimate insight into the characters he captured on his Rolliflex. (Olivia Singer AnOther Magazine)

The story line is cozy, the family setting is intimate, and the fun-filled illustrations are dramatic as well as true-to-life insofar as dinosaurs are concerned. I especially liked the softness of the drawings and the facial expressions of the family members in the story. While these animals could be frightening to the very young, they are drawn in a settling that downplays their ferocity. A double-spread at the end of the story provides up-to-date scientific information on twelve prehistoric animals as well as a timeline. Readers can download a free mp3 containing songs adapted to accompany this story._Hope Irvin Marston, author of MY LITTLE BOOK OF BALD EAGLES.

However, this book is not a how to draw manga book, which was fine with me. If you are looking for book that explains painting with watercolors I would recommend this book to anyone that is fan of fantasy or manga style art. This book is really helpful if you have some background knowledge in painting because it is one step up from a beginners tutorial painting book. If you are beginner, you might want to pick up this book to have on hand once you get better. :) Also this tutorial painting book covers fantasy based artwork so it's pretty true to the title of the book. The tutorial steps are not as long compare to Shojo Wonder Manga Art school but I think that is because Ecthelian uses more layers with Copic markers to get textures or certain shades of color through blending. If you are looking for a how to draw or use Copic markers tutorial book, you should pick up Ecthelian's other book Shojo Wonder Manga Art School. What does this book cover:-Watercolor Painting Techniques-Tools-Eastern and Western Fantasy Characters (The book focuses on characters more then background settings.)-A Mix of Backgrounds, Anatomy, ETC.-There is more but I don't want to spoil it for you all. :)I hope this helps anyone interested in picking up this book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A treat for any fan of Annie's :) By Ariel Loh I love Supittha "Annie" Bunyapen's work. I've followed her for years on deviantArt, and I have her other book as well (highly recommended, by the way). That said, her demonstrations are my favorite part of this book. Not only do we get a clear view of some of her beautiful works, but we even get a FULLY EXPLAINED, step by step, WIP (work in progress) type breakdown that most people can only hope for with their favorite artists. We see step by step what she did, how she did it, and very often, WHY she did it. So for a fan of Annie, this book is FANTASTIC.To the budding artist, I would say that this book is more appropriate for someone who has past "beginner" and is making steady progress towards "intermediate". She explains things well and you get to see her thought process, but many of these would be difficult to apply if you don't already have a steady foundation of your own with regards to shading, color palettes, anatomy, etc.To those who don't deal in copic markers, NEVER FEAR. A lot of what she says can be tweaked slightly to fit PaintTool Sai, Photoshop, whatever it is that you use. :)

Queen Marie Antoinette, wife of King Louis XVI of France and Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of King Charles I of England were two of the most notorious queens in European history. They both faced accusations that they had transgressed social, gender and regional norms, and attempted to defend themselves against negative reactions to their behavior. Each queen engaged with the debates of her time concerning the place of women within their families, religion, politics, the public sphere and court culture and attempted to counter criticism of her foreign origins and political influence. The impeachment of Henrietta Maria in 1643 and trial and execution of Marie Antoinette in 1793 were also trials of monarchical government that shaped the English Civil Wars and French Revolution.

Early Modern Lessons In Power By Bruce Harpham In "Queenship and Revolution in Early Modern Europe", the reader will learn a fresh perspective on power, monarchy and revolutionary movements of the early modern period. As a historian, Dr Harris brings a depth of knowledge and research to her work. While some may guess what Queen Henrietta Maria (1609-1669) - wife of King Charles I - and Queen Marie Antoinette (1755-1793) - wife of King Louis XVI of France - thought and felt, this book introduces you to the details. For example, Dr Harris cites household accounts and letters to show how the queens expressed their parenting philosophy. Then as now, decisions on how to spend money show what a person values. Drawing on financial records, letters from ambassadors, journals and other primary sources bring the book to life with vivid detail. The reader gets a robust sense of the fact that Henrietta Maria and Marie Antoinette were real historical people who faced challenges in their marriages, with their children and friends and foes at court. The changing and contested nature of queenship and royal authority is another insight from this book. Many of us assume that European monarchs of this era had unlimited authority and power - similar to the 20th century's dictators. However, kings and queens in the early modern era had to campaign for support much like today's elected officials and they faced problems. For example, Charles I issued a proclamation pardoning criminals yet the evidence shows that this decree was often ignored. In other cases, royal decisions were fully implemented. Absolute power may have been a dream for some in the early modern period but it was rarely achieved in practice. While the book is firmly grounded in early modern Europe and robust scholarship, there are timeless themes and struggles explored that make for engaging reading. For example, controversies and criticism over royal parenting decisions and child-rearing philosophy continue to resonate to the modern day. In addition, Dr Harris demonstrates that many courtiers and noble families were motivated to act by the drive for patronage appointments (e.g. seeking employment in the queen's household or as a royal governess). There was still fierce competition for high prestige roles and places at court despite the fact that many nobles had considerable resources and land.

This is a genealogical history of a Quaker family of Cheshire, England who settled along with William Penn in the New World. John and Hannah (?Rossell) Hough from Wilmslow, Macclesfield Hundred, England, traveled to Bucks Co., PA in 1683. Two sons and one grandson moved on to the Carolina colonies and their descendants, in part, expanded the territories of the American Northwest and Southwest. The HOUGH heritage has been researched before. This edition focuses on who they were and explains how their different pathways created America cultures. The nature and nurture of their existence, their choices, permeated our own lives and appear in the climate of America today.

John and Hannah (Rossell) Hough of England and Pennsylvania: Migrations of their Carolina Sons ~ Northwest and Southwest 1683- c1900, by Barbara Breece Roesch

About the Author A wanderer while growing up in a greatest generation household, a home with grandparents and cousins did not exist. Living in a microcosm, on this planet, my parents, brothers and I criss-crossed land and ocean too many times. By adulthood, the life-long whirlwind pace was deeply embedded but the traveling ceased. Unable to stand still, I reversed gears to travel backwards in time to find out where our roots began. Like all American settlers, they were amazingly determined to create a better country, just as we continue to make a better American today.
