Malde, MA: Polity Press, 2016I am an undergraduate student and have been conducting research on the Syrian refugee and humanitarian crisis in the Middle East. Since this is a current event, I couldn’t find many books on the topic, but with the help of my professor, he guided me towards this helpful source. Samer N. Abboud, a professor of international studies and a man of Arabic descent, eloquently explains the incidents that eventually led to Syria’s five-year civil war. The situation is very complex, yet Abboud sheds light and clarity on the issue by focusing on each factor or party separately. The detailed analysis, which spans a couple chapters, organizes the events in chronological order, making it easy for readers to follow. And towards the end of the book, he even analyzes the humanitarian crisis that has evolved within many of the neighboring Middle Eastern nations and the European Union, broadening the scopes of his scholarship. His information is up-to-date and accurate as he has referenced a number of sources that include academic magazines, international newspapers, and scholarly work from well-renowned universities. I haven’t finished the entirety of this book but it has been quite helpful in my research thus far as it looks at both the history of the crisis and the present-day realities. It is an excellent source for anyone conducting research within this area or just interested in extending their knowledge on his horrific, unfolding event.

Manning Like so many other western tracts on Syria since 2011, Samer Abbound's starts on the wrong foot.In particular, the assumptions that western aims = stated aims, i.e. of 'resolving conflict' and fighting terrorism(narrowly defined here as ISIS; Abboud specifically includes JAN/al Qaeda as a legitimate player) are simply not credibleAfter five years, the evidence is pretty clear that 'regime change' remains Washington's main driveras with the other recent ME interventions (Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya).The idea that outside agencies are going to reconstitute the secular Syrian state(Abboud: 'a robust, holistic plan', to 'institutionalize decentralised authority' - i.e. balkanisation)while mouthing inconsistent platitudes about the right of the Syrian people to self-determination, inclusiveness, territorial integrity, etcis rather fanciful, especially now the military tide has turned and the Syria state is not on its knees.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Another great Echo Canyon adventure. By Bobbie S. I have come to absolutely love both of Linda Bridey's series. I am currently in the middle of reading the new American Mail-Order Bride series of 50 books. However, nothing could prevent me from putting that series on hold to read the current Echo Canyon title. Ms. Bridey does not disappoint, with each book getting better and better. I love her characters and delight in "seeing " them all in each new addition. Nick is flawed but wonderful and Maura has the strength you can't imagine. If you haven't read her "Montana Mail-Order Bride" series, where I started, do yourself a favor. Then continue on to Echo Canyon. I believe she will be returning to Dawson, the town from the first series, and I can't wait for that title to be released. Of course, I am anxiously awaiting the next release in this series so we can see Gino find his true love. Please enjoy, you won't be sorry to start these series.

Gough This keeps up the story line and it also lets you know how everyone in Echo that have been in past books are doing and at the same time adds more to theaters and town. Look forward to more of the town of Echo and more of the old characters and neither ones. Love this series. Please,do not stop it.

Tangled in Tinsel-Pulling together an incredible story in only so many words has got to be a hard feat. A feat that Stacy Eaton has down to a T. No matter how long or short her stories are, they capture your attention and heart and curiosity. She leaves you wanting to know more and more throughout the whole book. Tangled in Tinsel was amazing, like I knew it would be. I love police books, I think they're my absolute favorite romance to read. The little bit of mystery makes a book so much more. The fact that Stacy pulled off what she did in such a short amount of words is beyond remarkable. She captured everything needed, and she answered all my curiosity needed to know. Casey comes from a wealthy family, after two people she thought she loved destroyed her life, she needs to escape. Getting a job in a no man's town is the perfect escape route. She got lucky with her run down house she just bought, because the next door neighbor is one fine piece of man. She tries everything in her to resist him, she will not get involved with a married man, again. Thad is a police officer and a wonderful family man who will do anything he can to support his family. With the beautiful woman next door he can't resist trying to catch her attention, but she keeps shooting him down and he has no idea why. When something becomes different, he knows there's some kind of back story. The race to find the truth will have your adrenaline rushing. Sweet rich girl meets cop with a little slice of incident is what this story is all about. I absolutely adored it! I can't wait to read whatever Stacy comes up with next! ♡Loving Lucy- I love Lucy, really. This book touched me more than I thought it would. Another wonderfully written novella. Blake has had it rough, but he got a wonderful blessing from all his trouble. He's not your typical romantic novel of a man. But I wouldn't have him any other way, than the way he is. Realizing he needs to stop pining over a certain someone he grows the courage to move forward and he also takes a bet. Even though he took the bet, this wasn't like any ordinary bet, I loved how it played out. Ahh, what to say about Lucy? She's an absolutely remarkable woman. Soft hearted and awfully loveable, what not to like? The way her life has gone and what she's dealt with is amazing, especially to go through it alone. I hate when people treat someone a certain way, all because they like to judge a book by a cover. Its shattering to me. This story was heart touching and also heart warming. I didn't want it to end. Blake was such a shy yet very charming man who didn't let his fears overcome him when it came to this woman. Even if it did take him a few years to talk to her. I've never met a sexier accountant. (: Cole for Christmas- I am a major fan of Christmas and family time. Christmas for Cole was the perfect little novella of my favorite things. When you throw in Cole, Christmas, Chloe, Cooking, Chances, and the two s's shopping and secrets, there is nothing better. Everything about Cole for Christmas was perfect. The characters especially. I think this is my most enjoyed single POV book I've ever read. Though I'd like to have known Cole's thoughts at one point. I'm glad it was left to my imagination. And all my questions were still answered by Chloe. Chloe has been jaded and decides to pack up and make a new life for herself. It's been tough but she's a fighter. Being an interior designer she finally gets a job. Yay. Little does she know this job is about to change her life, again. Cole needs help decorating his house for the holidays. But in the end he needs a whole lot more than just that. Simply amazing book. If this story doesn't bring Christmas cheer to you, than I don't know what will. Not so blue Christmas by Bonnie Edwards when Bella the dog keeps running away from Miranda who lost her husband the dog find Kirk a widower of only few month with heart of being along for Christmas both find love,family, and hope. I enjoyed this one too. Eight HoundS A Howling by Marcia James this story was of a photographer and she's a coordinator were doing a clarity calender of days of Christmas with dogs will doing it they fall in love this story is very cute you will enjoy it too.Christmas choices by Shanon Coady is about a man with a bad family past who came to town as a carpenter while working he meets and works with the owners granddaughter see how they fall in love and change Christmas. a great love story. I'm really loving all these great books well worth the money. so far. Tangled in Tinsel by Stacy eaton this was about a cop and a nurse she's from rich family that had some problems you'll have to read about ,but this story had some funny parts and a great love story all taking place before Christmas very cute story. Loving Lucy by channel Rhondeau I really enjoyed this story of hope, love, and family. the two characters in this book work together in different parts of a law firm well you'll have to read that and more but this was a great story. Cole for Christmas by Kelly Collins this was very cute story. I loved how they fell in love and how with just one thing turned out to be forever. True love. This box sex is well worth the money .All the stories in the set were great and that's a unusual at least for me. I found I liked them all and their all great writers.

About the Author Ernst Etienne is Haitian by birth, even though he currently lives in the United States. Being a pastor’s son, his childhood was expectedly marked with frequent relocations from one region to the other. Guyer Reading this book was like delving into Ernst Etienne’s heart and brain—his love and passion for his country oozes out of this book. The book is full of formulas and information detailing how to make Haiti great and developed, and how it truly does hold the power to become just that. Etienne is a very smart man and he makes that quite clear in his book.When I first opened the book and saw just how much math was contained in it, my first thought was, Oh no. But I kept an open-mind and I’m so glad that I did. I didn’t know much about Haiti before reading this book—save for the typical natural disasters that are broadcast on the news—but reading this has given me so much knowledge about its economy. This is not a historical book by any means, but it truly gives you insight into just how great Haiti is and all the potential it holds.Etienne’s philosophy that “Haiti must count only on Haiti” rubbed me the wrong way at first. However, I get it. Haiti has depended on other countries for so long and, as he explains in the book, it doesn’t seem to be helping them grow any further into being a developed, self-sustaining country. I was appalled when he talked about how the US had given a BCG vaccine to Haiti that resulted in large lumps on their arms. Because of that result, the US would not use that vaccine on its own citizens. He earned major respect from me when he explained that they shouldn’t view Americans as evil because “if we don’t respect ourselves, nobody would respect us.”Etienne is a man who has definitely done his research, even going so far as filling the book with images of how Haiti could be. He truly loves his country and this book is a testament to that.The only issue I had was that the book has two different titles—Haiti: The Sleepy Economic Power on the front and Haiti: The Sleeping Economic Giant in the footnotes.

He begins the book with easy equations to help people understand By Ashley Simpson This is an extremely important book for both Haitians, and anyone who is sincerely interested in the economic development of Haiti. Etienne accomplishes a difficult but important task for both authors and teachers: to break down complex concepts into something simple enough for the everyday person to understand. He begins the book with easy equations to help people understand, mathematically, why Haiti is in such a poor economic state. Throughout the rest of the book he offers step-by-step solutions to helping Haiti become more prosperous as a nation. It is not a coincidence some countries like the United States and Germany are developed while countries like Haiti are poor; there are many economic strategies to consider and this book provides a source of hope for Haiti to become competitive with the rest of the world.Etienne, who obviously has a thorough understanding of macroeconomics, is very specific in breaking down how the Haitian citizens and government can begin executing these strategies. Several examples include instruction on how to profitably export rice (an abundant resource in Haiti), how to reduce the country’s reliability on foreign aid, and converting their primary source of energy from petroleum to electrical. This is not just a vague description of economic principles, and Etienne covers nearly every part of the infrastructure in a functioning society.Cheap and extremely accessible, this is a must-read for Haitians, and even for anyone from other developing countries to gain a clear understanding of how to establish their footing in the competitive world economy.

By Nayala Mr. Etienne's book has really opened my eyes when it comes to my overall view of Haiti and its prospective economic power. I hope that more and more people are introduced to the ideas and principles that he has laid out in his book - it was really an interesting and informative read. I'm a business major in college, and I love when I come across an economy-related book that is able to clearly and effectively lay out a plan, while providing points that back up a certain point of view. Before reading this book, I honestly never had a clue about what Haiti's economic strengths could be (what they should/shouldn't import and export, what their government should/shouldn't be focusing on, etc). It was really cool how the author used actual formulas and equations to show how Haiti could benefit from certain economic decisions. I also really loved the photos that were included throughout the book to demonstrate what each city/area of Haiti could look like after these economic formulas have been applied. Of course, most people only think of poverty when they think about Haiti, but if you look at Mr. Etienne's point of view, you could definitely envision a bright new future ahead for Haiti - and I hope his message reaches more people!
