In this concluding story of the Trails series, young George Northwood (formerly known as Georgy), all grown up, travels back East from Oregon and lands in the middle of the American Civil War. Unwilling to take sides, having loyalties in both the North and the South, he chooses to use his medical abilities in treating the wounded—on both sides. Along the way he teams up with a young nurse from Montana, and rescues a little orphan boy. Donning the uniforms of both sides, George finds himself in the ticklish situation of having to prove his loyalty to the North as well as to the South. His refusal to lie makes this all the harder to do. But through it all, God’s hand shelters him and molds him into the man He created him to be, accomplishing His purpose in George’s life.

War trails By Boannah A good story line as with all her previous books in the series, but was disappointed in the ending which got so bogged down the I didn't even finish it. It would have been just fine without the two epilogues. Each book was detailed and followed almost daily events, and I was looking forward to George returning home reuniting with his family. But the time line jumped forward fifty years completely bypassing all events and landed with the author's viewpoint of how a family reunion will be in heaven corralling all the characters for one big curtain call at the end. She used over an hour of reading time having dead family members being reintroduced along with those that had only been fleetingly mentioned before. This ending also became a summary of the entire series, which is ok, but it flipped from being Patrick's ministry to George's; only the last book was about George, so it should have been Patrick's reunion and meeting with Jesus in the end.

A vivid reminder of the cost we paid for the Civil War By Mary Jane Kail Like many of the other readers, this was my favorite of the four book series. But, like a few of the others I was totally disappointed with the ending. Epilogue 1: Medical Degree Earned - And Then What! would have been a good ending. STOP THERE!!!!! But, Epilogue 2: Trails End - And Then What, totally messed up what was a very good book until then. I read the whole thing & even though some questions were answered in that part of the book I felt like there were many other ways that information could have been brought about. In fact, I almost took off one star because of the ending but decided I didn't want to ruin my memory of a good book so I choose to ignore the second Epilogue.I haven't yet read the companion books to this series but I'm going to not let the ending of the fourth book discourage me from reading the last two. I do recommend this series highly but just don't be too turned off by the end of this one.

I loved this series and I cried like a baby at the end when everyone is in Heaven. It made me more appreciative those in my family who have gone on before me and how important it is to share the word so I can see more people I love. George was a great example of a true believer and it was one of the best books I've ever read on the Civil War. Thank you Sally Hull for this series
