Robert Peel Glanville Blatchford .was a socialist campaigner, journalist and author in the United Kingdom. He was a prominent atheist and opponent of eugenics. He was also an English patriot. In the early 1920s, after the death of his wife, he turned towards spiritualism. A further development in Blatchford's thinking cost him further readers, when he began denouncing organised religion in such works as God and my Neighbour in 1903 and ‘Not Guilty: A Defence of the Bottom Dog’ 1905. Again, to antagonise the ILP, the Clarion raised funds for Victor Grayson, whom the ILP had declined to support. He justified his attacks as being because Labour was too close to the Liberals. Yet Robert Blatchford was no feminist. He had become converted to socialism after writing a series of articles on conditions in the slums of Manchester for the Sunday Chronicle.

1 of 3 people found the following review helpful. This book does not disappoint. By Rennyrij Don't be fooled by the obvious reprint format and typewriter font - this book, written in about 1903 by Robert Blatchford during his early 50's, is of the highest quality, and a more cool-headed accounting of the inconsistencies of the Christians' Bible than any other I have run across. (I'm sure I haven't found them all yet!) This is a book you could hand to a clergyman or a "true believer" of Christianity, without insulting their intelligence or alienating them (unless they INSIST upon being alienated; we have no control over that). His writing is measured and patient. He wishes to get across one idea at a time. And he does not seek to scorn these Christian people; he only seeks to gently persuade the believer to look at the biblical writings for what they are. I really like this book.
