About the Author Mark Lee Greenblatt is an attorney based in the Washington, DC, area specializing in criminal and ethics investigations. Mark is involved in several community service activities, including serving as vice president of the Marian Greenblatt Education Fund, a foundation created in honor of his mother to honor excellence in education. He received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his law degree from Columbia University. He was also a Senior Managers in Government Fellow at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Mark has earned a black belt in tae kwon do and was the drummer in The Fiasco, widely considered the greatest rock-’n’-roll band since The Beatles. Kerrigan Mark Lee Greenblatt asks and answers the right questions, such as explaining performance in combat by telling true stories of brave Americans. In my opinion, Greenblatt's research is on solid ground not only by citing the work of the ancients like Plato and Aristotle but also was guided by the more contemporary work of Mike Matthews, a prominent military psychologist at West Point. Matthews recent book Head Strong provides a psychological construct to performance in combat and an insightful presentation for enhancing military leadership.As to the answers of functioning well in life-threatening environment like combat, the author of Valor by telling the stories of American heroes and weaves into their stories key themes like: maintaining focus on the mission in the face of dire consequences, humility and selfless service , the paradox of risk-seeking behavior, and the automatic response imbued by countless drills.This book should be required reading for students who enjoy the comforts of civilian life in America yet remain unaware of the sacrifices made by soldiers, sailors and Marines who risked their lives for their country, fellow servicemen and yes... civilians who do not even know who Audie Murphy was in the greatest generation. Thanks to Mark Lee Greenblatt for letting this generation know there are plenty of Audie Murphy's in our midst.

Fantastic Insight By Reader Being a veteran myself, I truly appreciated this collection of first-hand accounts of their combat experiences in today’s wars. The author has definitely provided some great food for thought. As he said in the book, I am glad someone had the wherewithal to record these histories for these brave American heroes. Not one story is better than the one before or after. Some of the themes that crossed over into each story are the comradery and brotherhood (or sisterhood or even personhood, if such a term exists) among the soldiers, the usefulness of training so repetitive and quick-action actions/tasks become instinctive and the selflessness of each soldier in the face of deadly threats. There is a lot of information provided about soldiers today, but I have not read anything like this book—which contains first-hand accounts that thrust the reader right into the fray, regardless where he/she is or his/her level of experience. I think more people should read this book to more fully understand the realities of the military and especially of war. If you are looking to more fully understand and appreciate what our men and women encounter and feel in combat, this book will definitely provide that to you. I highly recommend it. I received this from Library Thing to read and review.

By Gina This book is awesome!!!...The author Mark Lee Greenblatt did a great job in writing this book. It made me feel like I was there & the soldier telling the story is standing in front of me, in my very own eyes!. Each one of these 9 American soldiers had a great story to tell, and it's just right for the whole world to know!!!... It made me realized how brave & selfless this young American soldiers were, yet seem to be forgotten?. I am very appreciative of what they've done, Only to protect our country USA!... Thank you to all the soldiers now and then protecting our beloved country, and Thank you Mark Lee Greenblatt for helping this 9 American soldiers stories be known and be told. These selfless & brave young American soldiers in this book did all what they can to protect they're Comrade, and our Country. It wasn't an easy battle, Some of them may have fallen already. Now let's do our part, recognize and support them by spreading the word about this book, So that we may continue the Legacy they left behind. ***** 5 stars all the way!!!*****Amazing!!!!!....
