Some of the oldest, most notorious saloons in the American West lined the streets of Prescotts Whiskey Row. Dating back to 1864, the remote mountain town thrived on its mining and cattle industries during the day and raised hell at night when dusty outlaws and pioneers like Virgil Earp and Doc Holliday crowded Row saloons to quench their thirsts. Whiskey Row bore witness to legendary gunfights, murders and other curious tales, like that of Baby Bell, aka Chance Cobweb Hall, known today as Arizonas most famous saloon story. From crooked gambling operations and barroom brawls to the devastating fire of 1900, author and historian Bradley G. Courtney explores the colorful stories of Whiskey Row.

By Alan Cook This book is obviously thoroughly researched and scholarly, and at the same time, told in a conversational tone. I felt like Brad Courtney and I were sitting at the Palace and sharing a couple of drinks while he related the story of Whiskey Row. I liked his style of concluding a chapter and also giving the reader a "heads up" to the next one. I would heartedly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the real history of the Old West.

A great read about the early days of Prescott, Arizona By G.F. vonBrosiniski While living in the area, it was nice to read, for once, about those individuals, many of who are well known, also of course, the ones who played a minor role and where the various saloons and buildings were located, along or near Whiskey Row, in the town of Prescott, prior to the great fire of 1900. For those who wish to read more about the early history and "goings on" in the town of Prescott, this is the book. While not a long book, it is jammed packed with lots of interesting tales from the early days, after the territorial capital moved south, from Chino Valley, to the new town of Prescott, Arizona.

Presented in an easy and conversational tone, Brad has worked hard to find the real history of this piece of Arizona, and it shows. A highly recommended read and one to keep on the shelf.
