About the Author Allen Childs, MD is a physician alumnus of UT Southwestern Medical School and was on scene at Parkland Memorial Hospital when President John F. Kennedy was brought in. He resides in Kensington, Maryland.

Fascinating By Vicki Bishop When I first picked up this book and started to skim the pages, I had no idea I would become so absorbed in the story that I could not put it down until I read the very last page. And I have since read it again.I am fascinated by the firsthand accounts of what happened in 1963. I have not read anything so up close and personal and it is interesting to read what people in the hospital were thinking during this sad and historical time. I could imagine myself in Parkland that day, it felt so real.A great read, I highly recommend it to everyone with any interest in John F. Kennedy

Having read the better books about the Kennedy Assassination and what went on at Parkland Memorial Hospital, this book confirms and denies at the same time. For me, the key two sentences were on page 149: "Sixteen forensic pathologists had examined the evidence and all of them concluded that the bullet that killed the president came from behind and above the motorcade. However, none of them had actually examined the body of the dead president." This is partly contradicted by a statement on page 148 about "Four of the attending physicians, Kemp Clark, Charles Crenshaw, Robert McClelland, and Malcolm Perry, each an expert in the treatment of gunshot wounds believed at the time that the neck wound was an entry wound." Believed? They saw the neck wound before the tracheotomy and they only "believed" it was an entry wound? The rest of the book is padded with statements taken from the Warren Commission testimony of certain people and statements that were part of the oral history of the "Sixth Floor Museum."In the Introduction, on page xiii, the author writes: "Late in this project, I came upon a startling revelation in Dr. Ron Jones's oral history. After taking his Warren Commission deposition at Parkland, chief counsel Arlen Specter told Jones, 'We have people who would testify that they saw somebody shoot the president from the front. But we don't want to interview them, and I don't want you to say anything about that, either.'" Not much of a revelation to anyone who's studied the Kennedy assassination in depth. This author just throws up his hands in a "what is history and what is real or not?" kind of way at the end.Get a copy of Trauma Room One by Dr. Charles Crenshaw. Steer clear of this one.

The Assassination From A Doctor's Point Of View By A Customer Allen Childs has written a short but good read on what the doctors saw and experienced while trying to save President Kennedy. From the moment the President arrived to the aftermath, this book gives insight into the hectic and emotional situation they found themselves in.What I found interesting was when Lee Harvey Oswald was brought in 2 days later, the doctors still did their job in a professional manner despite their personal feelings of Oswald at the time, whatever they may have been.Thank you Allen Childs, MD for allowing the public to see the human side of a profession during a world changing event.
