However, the lazy formatters didn't bother to set the poems in "poetic" style. They're just glommed together in paragraphs, making the poems very hard to enjoy.I guess this is what you should expect with "free" Kindle books. Someone at Amazon should run quality control on anything that's posted for downloading.

Research into the Hittites had only barely gotten off the ground (or under it, more likely) at the time it was written and so much of the book is speculation and guesswork that later work has shown to be incorrect. If you're interested in the history of research into the Hittites this book might be of interest. But if, like me your interest is in the most current information, then you will likely be disappointed.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A 19th century view of the Hittites stands up very well. By Gene Kassebaum In 2009 my wife and I visited the ancient capital center of the Hittite Empire in the Bronze Age We tramped around the ancient site of Hattusa on a pleasant wind-blown day. The stone walls and gates, and the rock faces bearing bas reliefs were set in fields of tall grass, which the wind drove in rippling waves. I ran my hands over a stone wall and wondered at the Hittite workmen who did this masonry nearly three thousand years ago.Several years later my appreciation of Hattusa was enhanced by a book written in the 1880s. It has recently been digitalized, inclduing illustrations, and is available on Kindle. Hittite: the Story of a Forgotten Empire 1890 by A.H. Sayce (Oxford and London: The Religious Tract Society) is exciting to read. Sayce was deputy professor of philology at Queens College, Oxford University. In this book he cites the bible (2nd Kings Vii) which treats them in passing as a Syrian tribe. But he writes, “The age of supremacy belongs to an earlier date than the rise of the monarchy in Israel.” Later he writes “They [the Hittites] belonged originally to Asia Minor, not to Syria, and it was conquest only which gave them a right to the name of Syrians. Hittite was their true title.”(Sayce 1890: 53) How was it that Hattusa was ignored for so long? That area of Anatolia was not under secure governance, and was quite risky for the traveller. Sayce mentions he had a bodyguard of 30 Turkish troops to protect him from brigands.Sayce describes the sculpture and bas reliefs exactly as we viewed them more than a century later in 2009. He hazards the opinion that the distinctive up-turned toes on all their boots were a form of snowshoe, suited to severe winters in the north rather than the heat of Syria and Palestine. (This seems a bit of a wild guess, e.g. Inuits don’t walk around with snowshoes in warm weather.) Also some of the figures were gods who presumably would not have needed snowshoes.Snowshoes or not, his book conveys a sense of real intellectual excitement in the discovery of a link between the Bronze Age in Asia minor and the armies of pharaoh Ramses II and the enslaved Israelites. There are better and more modern accounts but Sayce is a very good read and stands up well.

Peterson A very interesting presentation of the ancient Hittites and their relationship to the Egyptians with whom they competed for control in the Near East.Today the descendants of the Hittites are Kurds mainly found in Northern Iraq and Southern Turkey, although other peoples found in colder northern areas of the region also share the bloodlines, as do some Hebrews. This is a great read for anyone who ever wondered who the Hittites were and what happened to their empire.

The Kriegsmarine's Schnellboote – fast attack boats or E-boats to the Allies – were the primary German naval attack units in coastal waters throughout the Second World War.Operating close to their various bases they became a devastatingly effective weapon in nearly all the Kriegsmarine's theatres of war, from the Baltic to the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. It was in the English Channel, however, that they scored their most notable successes, destroying some forty warships and more than one hundred merchant ships. In addition to interception and attack, they were also used for minelaying, landing sabotage troops and general escort duties. There has been, to date, no comprehensive operational history of the S-boat service in all the theatres in which it saw service, but due to the relatively small number of units it is possible to recount the duties and fates of each individual craft and in this new book the author examines the career of each in detail. In addition, operations alongside the commando units of the Kleinkampfverbande are covered, and the smaller S-boats, designed primarily for their use, are described. As the War progressed, S-boats suffered from the increased Allied mastery of the seas and skies but they were a formidable foe right to the end; this new book is the first to do full justice to their record of success

Waited for this book forever By Jonathan Mattson I had seen this book on Amazon as a pre-order and then the date passed and the book never seemed to come up. I was so pleased when literally years later I could buy it in a kindle version. I have yet to find any book that gives more than a superficial overview on German s-boats.Paterson gives as great of an operational account as he did of his books. Not only do you get the actual military operations but you quickly realize how the German naval command had serious issues with being able to utilize their minimal resources at the most effective point. When they had a chance to use them against a ill prepared England instead they are off in Norway, the Baltic, and Mediterranean. Eventually they are even in the black sea. As if a few s-boats could stop an invasion of Norway or assist the conquest of the Caucasus region.Highly recommended if you have an interest in the German navy or quirky minor naval units of the war. Wish we had something like this on American pt boats.

This book is a must read for anyone interested in Filipino Martial Arts or Self-defense. If you are looking for information on the ins and outs of Arnis, Kali, Escrima, or information on Filipino Martial Arts you should definitely check out this book, it’s a source of invaluable information about Arnis and the Art of the Abcedario or The ABC’s. Do you find yourself wondering if you could defend yourself from an armed or unarmed attack? Do you need help overcoming the fear of a past armed or unarmed attack? Clueless about Self-defense? Or interested in the Filipino martial arts? Then this book is for you. You will learn how all attacks fall into the 12 angles of attack. Discover ways in which to defend yourself from each of the 12 angles. By mastering the six essential techniques of the Abcedario (or the ABC’s) which include Foot work, Striking, Blocking and Cocking Positions, Return Stoke patterns and transferring in between strikes. You will gain the confidence to defend yourself from most any threats. As you learned the Art of Abcedario you will find yourself overcoming these fears and the law of attraction that comes from having these fears. With this book you now have a fresh start on become a master of your thoughts, emotions and body. All in all, it is an inspiring, user friendly guide that will help you well on your way to becoming a Filipino martial arts practitioner. The Abecedario (or the ABC’s) is highly underrated and an overlooked art in Arnis. There is one big problem with this; it is the base art that must be mastered. For without mastering the Art of Abecedario; it would be like knowing how to swimming under water without knowing how to hold your breath. If the tree grows without its base firmly rooted. The wind would blow it over. Or if you hit a home run and you never touch first base? It is really not a home run. I promise you to this day that if the Supreme Master was still teaching; he would start by teaching you Abecedario and you would be practicing it for the duration of your training with him; whether you’re training with him for 2 years or 20 years. Matter of fact; the late time I practiced with him in 2008 it was the first thing he pulled from his quiver. (See the beginning of the Abcedario chapter). The Art of the Abecedario is one of two Base Arts of Arnis Tendencia. It consist of a feeder and a defender. The feeder will strike at the defender the 12 Angles of Attacks; between every attack the feeder will leave his arm out for the defender to practice on. The Defender will have to block the attack, Cock his stick, use the correct Return Stroke Patterns to defend himself with then have to transfer to the next angle of attack to repeat to all the 12 angle of attack. As you begin to practice the art of Abecedario; Remember “Slow and control transforms into speed and power”. Be sure to use respect, etiquette, self-control, humility and discipline as you practice. The better you are versed in the Art of Abecedario; the better prepared you will be for the advanced Arts of Arnis. Be willing to take the time to perfect each and every aspect of the art of Abecedario.

It is very similar in concept to the San Miguel Eskrima that I studied under Mr. Peter Hood in Vancover back in my college days. There are differences but not enough to make an argument over, without looking petty and prissy. Anyone who has not seen or trained in this style should at the very least review the methodology for comparative purposes.

Behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places. For I will not leave thee.––Genesis 28:15 KJV

About the Author Andrew Murray (1828–1917) was a South African writer, teacher, and Christian pastor. Murray considered missions to be "the chief end of the church." Andrew pastored churches in Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town and Wellington, all in South Africa. He was a champion of the South African Revival of 1860. In 1889, he was one of the founders of the South African General Mission (SAGM), along with Martha Osborn and Spencer Walton. After Martha Osborn married George Howe, they formed the South East Africa General Mission (SEAGM) in 1891. SAGM and SEAGM merged in 1894. Because its ministry had spread into other African countries, the mission's name was changed to Africa Evangelical Fellowship (AEF) in 1965. AEF joined with SIM in 1998 and continues to this day. He died on January 18, 1917, four months before his eighty-ninth birthday. Over the years he has influenced many, including Jessie Penn-Lewis, a key figure in the 1904-1905 Welsh Revival.

By Michael Taylor Murray's book is an excellent supplement to the Bible for helping a person experience a deeper walk with Christ.Among the important points Murray mentions include:1. Intimate fellowship with God starts with total surrender.2. We enjoy God's presence when we walk in faith and obedience.3. Our unbelief in God hinders His promises for us.4. A person becomes spiritual by God's grace.5. Do not limit God with your worry and anxiety.6. Let God work in you before you preach to others.7. Real confession and repentence leads to a deeper relationship with God.8. Do not be content with a low quality of life.Read and be encouraged to walk deeper with Christ!

This book pulls back the veil and allows one to see that it is impossible to lead the christian life w/o the guidance and comfort of the Holy Spirit.Along with other titles such as 'Christians Guide to a Happy Life by Hannah Smith', 'They Found the Secret', and 'The Wonderful Spirit Filled Life by Dr. Charles F. Stanley' it has become clear to me that God wants us to succeed at this life. But, it is thru the guidance of the Holy Spirit that one begins to enjoy the Christian life.

Sections which should start on the right page do not always. A minor gripe.A bigger problem is that some material---the month-long prayer directional (not devotional) that appears in the Kindle version---is omitted. It is remarkable with Murray's insight and should be made available.Murray is wonderful and timely, but the package is lacking.

Since the mid-twentieth century, Zoltán Kodály's child-developmental philosophy for teaching music has had significant positive impact on music education around the world, and is now at the core of music teaching in the United States and other English speaking countries. The Kodály Today handbook series is the first comprehensive system to update and apply the Kodály concepts to teaching music in elementary school classrooms. Kodály in the Fourth Grade Classroom provides teachers with a step-by-step road map for developing children's performance, creative movement, and literacy skills in an organic and thoughtful manner. Through six years of field-testing with music teachers in the United States, Great Britain, and Hungary (the home country of Zoltán Kodály), authors Micheál Houlahan and Philip Tacka have developed a methodology specifically for 21st century classrooms. Houlahan and Tacka use the latest research findings in cognition and perception to create a system not only appropriate for the developmental stages of fourth graders but also one which integrates vertically between elementary music classes. The methods outlined in this volume encourage greater musical ability and creativity in children by teaching them to sing, move, play instruments, and develop music literacy skills. In addition, Kodály in the Fourth Grade Classroom promotes critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration skills. Although the book uses the Kodály philosophy, its methodology has also been tested by teachers certified in Orff and Dalcroze, and has proven an essential guide for teachers no matter what their personal philosophy and specific training might be.Over 100 children's books are incorporated into Kodály in the Fourth Grade Classroom, as well as 35 detailed lesson plans that demonstrate how music and literacy curriculum goals are transformed into tangible musical objectives. Scholarly yet practical and accessible, this volume is sure to be an essential guide for elementary music teachers everywhere.

If you teach elementary music and want to do so effectively, you should probably purchase this entire series right away. It's incredible! The best part is that each book contains a year worth of units divided into sequential lessons and with specific repertoire (though there is plenty of flexibility if you want to use other repertoire for some parts of lessons). Even if your kids aren't caught up to the sequence (my 5th graders are currently on 2nd grade concepts), the lessons work and are adaptable to your students, your equipment, your classroom, your administration, and your overall situation. These books are an amazing resource for elementary music teacher and something that the elementary music world has been lacking for much too long. The lessons can also serve as an outline that can be supplemented with other activities (concert prep, Orff activities, instrumental performance, etc).

From the bestselling author of the Heller Brothers Hockey series, this charming holiday novella features one of the hunky hockey stars of the Chicago Aces.   The Christmas season always puts a smile on Jenna McFadden’s face. Even though she’s bringing a boyfriend home for the first time, inside she’s dying to see Andrew. Years ago, when the McFaddens took the troubled teen into their home, Jenna had to keep her blazing-hot crush a secret. And now that he’s playing pro hockey for the NHL’s Chicago Aces, nothing’s changed. With his wide shoulders and taut muscles, Andrew’s the most tempting package in the house . . . one that Jenna’s dying to unwrap.   Andrew Ross just can’t make a play for Jenna. Her dad and brothers wouldn’t approve, and he could never betray the trust of the wonderful people who treated him like family when he lost his own. That’s what makes the holidays so hard. Whether Jenna’s skating with Andrew on a frozen pond or sitting on his lap while he plays Santa, she’s pushing all their boundaries—and there’s only so much a man can take. Andrew knows that she’s off-limits. But something deep down tells him that Jenna’s heart is the one prize he simply has to win.Praise for Off Limits   “Kelly Jamieson is my go-to author for hockey romance.”—USA Today bestselling author Jami Davenport  “A sweet story with plenty of heart about that bad boy you always wanted, who couldn’t wait to have you too.”—Cecy Robson, award-winning author of Once Kissed“Off Limits has everything I love from one of my favorite authors: well-written characters, a hot hockey-playing hero, and heat. I thought thatwhile they liked each other they never got together before. I usually dislike reading second change romances because I feel like if a couplehad deep enough feelings for each other then with the exception of a few circumstances they would make an effort to stay together. That did not happen here. While they had a hot weekend together neither cared enough to be with each other. If Andrew wantedJenna enough then he would have maned up and not let his fear about how her parents felt about them stop them from being togetheron a long term basis. Instead he did not want to be with her enough and both went on with their lives. He slept with OW after being with her and I assume that she slept with OM too.I had no love for Jenna nor Andrew. I disliked how Jenna treated Jon, her boyfriend. She knew that she had feelings for Andrew but brought Jon anyway. She flirted with Andrew and visa versa. Jenna make very little effort to include him in conversations with her friends nor family. Jon could do nothing right and was made fun of by her brothers and Andrew. He was a nice guy but finished last. In this case not getting Jenna was a good thing. She did not deserve him. There was very little chemistry between them and their story was too short and boring. I will admit to skimming pages after 1/2 of the story. Just could not bring myself to care about the characters.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Love is the best Christmas present By cmoyer Before I give my full review my only complaint is that it was to short of a read even though it's a short novella I want more. With that out of the way I just want to say I really loved this book. A few months ago Kelly introduced us to the Chicago Aces and in this current book we meet Andrew who comes home for Christmas. Home for him is with Jenna, her brothers, mom and dad who took him in to live with them when he was a teen when his world came crashing down. Even as a teen, something had always drawn him to Jenna. But Jenna's brothers and father had let it be known that she was off limits. Which he still abides by today even though his feelings have never left. But when she comes home for Christmas with her boyfriend, he knows that nothing can ever become more than the big brother/little sister feelings.Jenna has always had a crush on Andrew growing up. Then one night while away at college that crush turned into love. Well for her anyway. Or so she thought. Why would Andrew love her more than just as a sister when he can have any woman he wants now that he plays in the NHL. While Jenna believes that Jon might be "the one" everyone in the family questions her choice. After a night on the town with her brothers, Andrew and her friends she hasn't seen in a long time, things aren't as happy as they seem to be with Jon. Now with him gone, Jenna can finally focus on the true love she has for Andrew although she also tries to deny them.Without giving away to much of the story I'm just going to say I loved Andrew. He's funny, lovable and has that thing where he debates with himself over his feelings for Jenna. Jenna is a great character. She's independent trying to make a name for herself in the business world and trying to keep her hot feelings for Andrew only to herself.I hope we get to read more about this sexy couple in upcoming Aces hockey books. While I have many favorite couples, these two might just top them all.

By Mignon Mykel Received a copy of the title in exchange for an honest review. So I wasn't the biggest Lovey fan, but oh my goodness, am I a Jenna and Andrew fan.Andrew has been part of the McFadden family for years, and the family actually took him in when he was 16 after his family lift crumbled apart. No one knows the true need of family like Andrew does, and it's a need that he's not willing to break up -- but he's had his eye on 'little sister Jenna' as long as he's known her. One weekend in college had them moving forward, but quickly Andrew was reminded of what he needed in his life, and he and Jenna agreed friends/family were what they were meant to be.Now it's Christmas time and Jenna's come home with a man -- must be serious, right? But Andrew can't help but pick out all the ways he's so wrong for Jenna. This was so fun to read. Partly because Andrew tried to hide, again and again, his distaste for Jon by playing the big brother role, but it's all in the looks, the touches... Jon's no fool. Now Jenna needs to determine what she wants -- but more than that, Andrew needs to determine what's more important, the only family he's known, or the chance with a woman he's wanted forever.I absolutely loved this story. The timing was a bit quick if you were just to look on the surface, but Andrew and Jenna have history -- familial as well as sexual, so this isn't a relationship they just jump in blind to. I loved the emotion, the chemistry... I just absolutely loved Andrew and Jenna (and they'd be surprised at who loved them together, too). I was surprised to find this to only be a "half" book; I do hope we see more of these two in the future (who's next, Duncan?! He needs a new lady, you know...).

"Jervis McEntee" presents new scholarship and color reproductions that redefine McEntee s place in the history of nineteenth-century American landscape painting. The lead essay by exhibition curator Lee A. Vedder makes the case that McEntee was far more than a painter of somber late fall landscapes. He set his own course, absorbing influences of his fellow Hudson River school painters including Frederic Church, Sanford Gifford, and Asher B. Durand, while also responding to the atmospheric painting of J. M. W. Turner, the trauma of the Civil War, and the shifts in American tastes to French Barbizon painting and Impressionism. Additional essays expand the scope of McEntee scholarship. Kerry Dean Carso presents the influence of the landscape and industrial development of Rondout (later Kingston), New York, McEntee s native city. David Schuyler reappraises the art and career of this fascinating artist, who played such a pivotal role in the art and culture of his day. The catalogue also includes reprints of key texts from the rare memorial publication "Jervis McEntee: American Landscape Painter" (1892)."

But within months of the union she becomes a widow after the sudden death of the prince of Wales. A new marriage is arranged between Catherine and the brother of her late husband, the future King Henry VIII. For 20 years Catherine exerts a beneficial influence on her husband counteracting the policy the main counselor of the King, cardinal Wolsey, tries to impose. The King, living in accord to certain vices of the time, combines his duties as a husband with extramarital affairs Catherine bears with resignation. But unexpectedly matters take a turn when the king becomes hopelessly infatuated with his new mistress, Anne Boleyn, right at the moment when he assumes that Catherine cannot give him the heir he yearns for. Determined to achieve his objective, he will resort to all kinds of manipulations and pressures in order to divorce his wife. Catherine will have to face all the forces of the State that the King has won for his cause. Alone, but firmly supported by her religious convictions, she will face everyone in defense of the truth and the law of God. Its my pick for this years best 'How to' guitar book By mervyns I bought this with a view to upgrading my jazz-guitar skills but discovered this book offers a whole lot more than guitar playing instruction. I am a better musician for reading it, plain and simple. Richard Niles is a masterful educator because while his approach is light-hearted, a lot of knowledge is packed into every laugh. There is a place for humour, nay a need for humour, in education, and this strikes a chord with me. Congratulations on maybe the most efficient ‘How to play guitar’ book I have yet come across. Its certainly the funniest. Recommended for all guitar players out there with room for improvement.

By Lauren Passarelli From Dreaming To Gigging: Jazz Guitar in 6 Months Richard is brilliant & hilarious. Everything you need to understand and play jazz (on any instrument) is in this book. The title seems like a fantasy, but if you diligently follow his guidance, you will be improvising and expressing yourself sooner than you think. Richard is intelligent, organized and able to present a subject as deep as jazz in a step wise, make serious progress, systematic, yet artful way. He's got you covered, you will learn, you will understand, you will know. You'll be gigging in six months. Lauren Passarelli, Professor of Guitar, Berklee College of Music

I feel like I'm beginning to know what I'm doing By Garrett Wolfe Simon This book is a MUST have for anyone who wants to express themselves, not only on guitar, but on bass, piano, or perhaps even sitar! I've been playing professionally for half a century, and for the first time, since I cracked open this book, I feel like I'm beginning to know what I'm doing. And while I am learning to master my musical language and craft, Dr. Niles keeps me laughing. This is the most informative, easy to use, and fun music text I have ever used. My only complaint is that he didn't write it decades ago. 8 out of five stars!!!

A stunning visual pilgrimage to the most revered Christian sites in Israel.Christianity's roots extend deep into the earth of the Holy Land, and its defining events are memorialized in its many important churches, monasteries, and convents. It was in the town of Nazareth, where the Basilica of the Annunciation now stands, that Mary learned she would conceive, and it was in Bethlehem, where the Church of the Nativity is, that Jesus was born. Sacred sites from the Galilee to the Judean Desert and from the Jordan River to Jerusalem mark the stages of Jesus' life, and this stunning, opulently illustrated book presents thirty-three of the most significant and sought after, retracing the Christian story. Superb photographs capture the majesty of the buildings, the faces of celebrants, and the varied beauty of the land, while the text offers a vivid account of the traditions and history associated with them.Among the sites included are: the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City of Jerusalem; the Church of the Beatitudes in the Galilee, associated with the Sermon on the Mount; the baptismal site on the Jordan; the Chapel of the Ascension on the Mount of Olives; and the Cenacle, the Room of the Last Supper. For centuries, pilgrims have made the demanding physical journey to visit these sacred sites and celebrate their faith in the Holy Land. This book recreates that pilgrimage and offers a rewarding visual journey in an ancient land.

The Medieval Swiss at its Best By Kindle Customer The book is about certain Swiss Heroes of an era of warfare chiefly against Burgundy Duke Charles the Bold in the 1400s.The Federation of the Swiss (Switzers) was cemented by this period of Swiss Heroes fighting with foreign royalty but then, soured by royalty, fighting against them.I find it very intriguing that after these wars the Federation sent its soldiers back to their farms and shops "to practice peace, not war", meaning no standing army, with no dreams of conquest or empire, which resulted in the nation being able to practice neutrality ...

Kodály in the Third Grade Classroom provides teachers with a step-by-step road map for developing children's performance, creative movement, and literacy skills in an organic and thoughtful manner. Through six years of field-testing with music kindergarten teachers in the United States, Great Britain, and Hungary (the home country of Zoltán Kodály), authors Micheál Houlahan and Philip Tacka have developed a methodology specifically for 21st century classrooms. Houlahan and Tacka use the latest research findings in cognition and perception to create a system not only appropriate for the developmental stages of third grade students but also one which integrates vertically between elementary music classes. The methods outlined in this volume encourage greater musical ability and creativity in children by teaching them to sing, move, play instruments, and develop music literacy skills. In addition, Kodály in the Third Grade Classroom promotes critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration skills. Although the book uses the Kodály philosophy, its methodology has also been tested by teachers certified in Orff and Dalcroze, and has proven an essential guide for teachers no matter what their personal philosophy and specific training might be.Numerous children's songs are incorporated into Kodály in the Third Grade Classroom, as well as over 35 detailed lesson plans that demonstrate how music and literacy curriculum goals are transformed into tangible musical objectives. Scholarly yet practical and accessible, this volume is sure to be an essential guide for kindergarten and early childhood music teachers everywhere.
