About the Author Tim Rowland is an award-winning columnist at Herald-Mail Media in Hagerstown, Maryland. He has written for numerous history and outdoor magazines and news syndicates nationwide. He has also authored several books, most recently Strange and Obscure Stories of the Civil War, as well as All Pets are Off: A Collection of Hairy Columns, Petrified Fact: Stories of Bizarre Behavior That Really Happened, Mostly, High Peaks: A History of Hiking the Adirondacks from Noah to Neoprene and Maryland’s Appalachian Highlands: Massacres, Moonshine & Mountaineering. Howard Tim Rowland is a "local boy" whose commentary appears three times a week in the Hagerstown Herald, which is how his writing came to our attention. He has a nice, easy going style, somewhat self deprecatory and I find it engaging. This is quick, easy reading with engaging insights into historical events of revolutionary war days. It was bought as a Christmas present for a friend who is "into" reading of that sort and I feel sure she will enjoy it.
