"I know what you taste like," he whispers against my cheek. "I know what you sound like when you come." He releases one of my hands, gripping my chin and forcing me to look at him. "Tell me, Brooke. How do I forget that?" His lips hover over mine, too close. "How. Do. I. Forget. That?" ****** When Dylan’s band is offered a deal they can’t refuse, within a month they’re in LA, signing with Wallace & Wright Records. Then Brooke walks in and changes everything. Not only does she work for the record label, but she’s also producing their debut album. Like someone else pressed play on Brooke's future, she knew there was no rewinding, no take two. That was until Dylan came blaring back into her life at full volume. He broke down her walls. She ruined him for everyone else. Desire and regret, passion and pain, their love wouldn’t stop consuming them. Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. This isn’t a love triangle, this is something different. Note from Author: While this may not be the final installment for Brooke & Dylan, and the rest of the Careless Cockups gang, this is the final installment of Changing Colors. Answers, closure, and HEA guaranteed.

By Brooklyn In Forget, Book 1 in the Changing Colors series, you know we're taken on a whirlwind romance set in the city of love, Paris. But then it abruptly ends when Brooke takes off with nothing more than a note to Dylan. Whhhhyyyyy??? That's what we all wanted to know, right? Blur answers those questions but not in the way you might originally think... Imagine Dylan's shock when he arrives in LA and not only finds Brooke works at the record label he signed with but she's engaged!!! We all knew something was going on with Jaime but before you freak out....*** "Two men own my heart, but not all love is the same. This isn't a love triangle, it's something different." ***Dylan and Brooke fight this undeniable pull they have. But Brooke can't give all of herself or even the secrets she's holding to Dylan. She refuses to explain to him the reason for the choices she is making. It's a painful journey for both characters as they try to build and keep a friendship but the bonds of love that are wrapped around them are too much to resist. In Paris, Brooke asked Dylan to wait but for how long can he do that?*** "This isn't goodbye. It's just, not right now...but it sure as hell felt final to me." ***Brooke struggles with the lies and secrets she holds, the unbreakable love she has for both men, the pull Dylan has on her every time he is near her. It's a a hammer to Dylan's already shattered heart to constantly be around Brooke and not be able to be WITH Brooke. To not be the man for her, to not touch her, taste her, feel her...*** "How much longer can I withstand this pain until I just can't do it anymore? How much longer can I be okay with watching Brooke with another man until I finally break?" ***It's a story of powerful love, secrets that are buried deep, the stuggle of people owning up to themselves, being honest with themselves before they can be honest with others. It's a rocky ride but a beautiful story of how Brooke and Dylan never loose hold of a love so powerful it burns like electricity.*** " When you love someone that much, it bleeds from every thought, every action, and every word. Even when you're not meaning for it to." ***I love a rock star. I love a deep rooted love like Brooke and Dylan have. The music in this book, it's awesome! The playlists are stuck on repeat on my phone. This book gives you so many feels, tugs at your heart, pulls you into their world and then the music makes it come alive! I am so hoping that this series isn't over. I want more. I want to hear more about Brooke and Dylan but I want more from the rest of the band. It's better than the average rock star read and NA Alcorn has left me wanting in the best way.SPOTIFY PLAYLISTS:FORGET: https://open.spotify.com/.../playlist/14ttboNRyf5LEyDN4Wmw13BLUR: https://open.spotify.com/.../playlist/7GY4NY8DHkGhOFGcek3W0x

By RomanceRWblog Every since I finished Forget, the first book in the series, I have been waiting for book 2. I loved the characters and I loved the writing. I was hooked from page one of Forget and experienced so many emotions while reading. To say my heart was broken at the end is an understatement. And then I had to wait 5 LONG months to get a conclusion. It was pure torture. LOL! Once I got my hands on Blur, I wanted to start reading immediately. However, I was a little scared and anxious. What if my heart couldn't take it?!?!This book begins exactly where we are left off at the end of book 1. Super hot Dylan and his band the are in L.A. to begin their debut album. Brooke and Dylan are both in for a shock when they realize they will be working together. But the biggest shock for Dylan, Brooke is engaged to Jamie. I could feel Dylan's heart shatter and his blinding rage. And I really, really wanted to be mad at Brooke. But, I couldn't bring myself to hate her. She has so many demons and secrets that I knew there was a good reason for her actions, even if I wanted to slap some sense into her. After the initial shock of working together is over, they give a good effort and hating each other, trying to be friends and just making each other mad. But is so pointless. Bright Eyes and Little Wing have so much chemistry, I am surprised my Kindle didn't spontaneously combust. They can fight their feelings all they want, but these two are a match made in literary heaven.Even though I figured out the secret that Brooke has been keeping from everyone, I loved the journey to get there, though my heart was ripped to shreds multiple times. Anyone reading it can see Brooke's agony and that she does not want to hurt anyone. She only wants to protect those that she loves and ends up hurting herself in the process. Thank God for Millie and her words of wisdom. Her humor and letters of advice were priceless. This story is a poignant, beautiful, redemptive story. It fully displays how words, actions and love can affect a person. Prepare yourself for a wonderful, emotional roller coaster and enjoy the ride this book will provide. Excellent job, Ms. Alcorn. I can't wait to read more novels of yours in the future!

I'll admit, it took me awhile to get through Forget and I honestly don't know why other than there has been an insane amount of things in my life going on the past 2 weeks. But, it's awesome that I could go from one book to the next without waiting. I'm impatient like that. But Blur was amazing. Like woah. A) you are a musical genius. I can't even. I had to play little wing because I had never heard it before but it is simply perfect and soooooo fits this book. The way you intertwined the old and the new blew me away.B)I don't love rockstar romances in general... But, I think Dylan is my new book boyfriend. I love how he showed his love to her and even though he sang about giving her up, he never really did.C) since I was able to read these one after the other, I almost consider it one work....and it definitely ranks up there with my top 5 of the year. It definitely gave me alllll the feels.

It is the perfect 'bread/butter' gift to bring to a dinner party if the host/hostess is at any degree involved in arch/design. Nice balance of kickyiness married to some actual though-provoking and right-on-target messages . It is also the PERFECT gift (at a truly reasonable cost) to have a few on hand in the closet, ready for the grab if you find yourself in need of a small token of appreciation that sends a thoughtful message without the uneasiness, perhaps shown in a more expensive or lavish gift not warranted for the occasion or individual.

This volume comprises the fourth installment in this ambitious publishing project. The oeuvre of Gerhard Richter (born 1932) comprises in excess of 3,000 individual works. Over a period of five decades he has created a stylistically heterogeneous, complex body of work that testifies to his status as the most important living artist of our time. The first volume of this catalogue raisonné was released on the occasion of the artist's 80th birthday in February 2012. Dietmar Elger, director of the Gerhard Richter Archive at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, has spent years researching and preparing this latest publication. Aside from the richly colored illustrations, many of them full-page, Gerhard Richter: Catalogue Raisonné, Volume 4 includes full technical details, information about the artist's handwritten notes and the provenance, bibliography and exhibitions of each individual work. This information is supplemented by commentary, quotes and comparison images.

The reproductions are extremely high quality and correct some of the errors on the online catalogue raisonne. For instance, reading this book I discovered one of the photos on the online catalogue had reversed the image of the painting, right-to-left. And the colors here are much more vibrant and truer to life than the online catalogue. Of the three volumes released to date (Volume 2 is not yet released), this is by far my favorite.

The book is well built – I find Hatje Cantz publications to be of high quality – the binding is strong, the pages are thick, the colors are rich, the covers are sturdy, the spine is tight. It opens fully, and lays flat with little effort/trouble. It is printed in Germany, hence the high quality. I consider this to be a reference standard, and not for casual fans of Richter’s work. It does not explore the individual works in detail, nor does it explore Richter’s process, nor education/history. I would recommend this for a serious collector of Richter’s work – it is a hefty investment, since there are now 7 volumes planned (not 5, as listed here). If you are looking at this book, then you probably know what you are getting into. Otherwise, check out the previously published collection volumes ("40 years of Painting" or similar).I also have Volume 1, and it is similar in quality. Volume 1 contains a biography & bibliography.Vol 4 is the third published volume of a (now, as of 2015) 7 volume set. Note, these are not published sequentially. As of Dec 2015, only Volumes 1 (2011), 3 (2013) and 4 (2015) have been published.600 pages, 645 Illustrations color and B&WAll text is in English and GermanSlipcase: thin cardstock, no embossing, throwaway.Includes text by Dieter Elger, unique to this volume: Foreward (2 pgs), Introduction (12 pgs), Preface (3 pgs). Conclusion of research for Volume 4: Dec 31, 2014.Information for each work: Work Numbers, Titles of Works, Year of Origin, Technique, Dimensions, Inscriptions, Owners, Provenance, Exhibitions, Literature, Quotes, RemarksGenerally, each work is presented with a large color image and text information. Occasionally there is a smaller image (source photograph, gallery installation, etc.). Some pages have 2 or 3 works presented, usually for repetitive works in a series. Occasionally, the images are only in B&W (unknown if the original works are painted in color).Text information for each work: Work Numbers, Titles of Works, Year of Origin, Technique, Dimensions, Inscriptions, Owners, Provenance, Exhibitions, Literature, Quotes, Remarks. No biography or bibliography is included (see Volume 1).For future reference, the following additional volumes are credited inside this book, but have no publication date: Volume 6: Nos 900 - ? Two different founders had the same idea, at the same time last spring. It happens pretty frequently with breakthrough innovations. Great minds think alike. Anyway, there’s not much differentiating the two founders. They’re both driven. They’re smart. They know the tech will probably work, based on accumulated experience. And they’re willing to work hard to create the future. Recently, these men were profiled in the press–you know, industry piece. They were still very much alike. Happily married, two kids, one investor. And both were still running the business they founded earlier. But there was one difference, though. One of them had just put together a modest launch after silently sweating over the product for well over a year. The other was riding a rapidly growing seven figure business like a mounted bullfighter in a kids’ cartoon. What was the difference, then? The difference lies in how quickly founders learn, and how quickly founders apply that knowledge. This book is about that side project of yours. Regardless of whether you are a hacker or a hustler, this book will show you there is much more to landing pages than button colors. In this book, you will discover:

  • How to lay bare your chosen market so that you can enter it effectively
  • Finding an effective source of customer acquisition for both validation and sales, so that you can acquire prospects and customers like twisting a spigot handle
  • Using previously unavailable quantitative tools for fast early-stage validation
  • How to find the right audience for a product, and prove ready to pay for a product, even if you don't have one yet
  • Positioning a product relative to other products, so that it stands out and attracts
  • Confidently test a product idea to prove unmet demand exists
  • Determine and test a clear go-to-market strategy
  • How to ethically convince people to convert if you’re just starting up and don't have a track record yet
  • Strategies for focused market entry, in order to conserve your limited resources while learning about your target market
  • Which metrics actually matter when making your early (or even first) sale
  • The critical yet often overlooked components of using a landing page successfully (it’s not what you think)
  • Specific case studies of how landing pages were used as minimum viable products, far from the typical split test you see in on-line marketing
  • Examples of initial landing pages of the multi-billion dollar tech giants
  • What keywords to target, in order to make that first sale!
  • Nice Things People Have Said "When I first saw the title I thought 'yeah, right - he's probably going to tell me how to win the lottery tomorrow too.' But by the time I finished the book I not only genuinely believed it could be done, but had begun furiously taking notes." --Glenn Livingston, Ph. D., former co-founder of advertising agency Rocket Clicks, online market research pioneer "This is a must read if you have an idea for a startup and you want to create the right landing page to sell your idea before spending a lot of money building your product." --Dharmesh Raithatha, Product Partner, Forward Partners “In my corporate consulting days, I used to tell my clients market research is a waste of time, because projects usually took 3 months and required a budget of $50-150K. But this stuff really changes the equation!” –-Robert Grossman, Marketing Expert, Former Managing Partner, McKinsey & Co. Execute Smart–Right From the Start The fact of the matter is, you need hard-hitting, street-smart, ideally quantitative tactics that produce results. Relevant to your competitive landscape. Easy to implement in your business. With the right product strategy, you will outexecute your competitors.

Eric Ries meets Gary Halbert.Launch Tomorrow by Luke Szymer provides a step-by-step approach to quickly launching an idea, a product, campaign, or business in a way that doesn't cut corners on acquiring scientific, validated learning in the marketplace. Many tech startup business owners snicker at direct response marketing that they come across. They see this type of marketing as lacking class. They see their businesses as being different. They see their target market as only responding to branding.Wrong, of course, on all three counts.Launch Tomorrow makes remarkable effort to bridge this gap and bring the solid foundation of scientific advertising into the world of ultra-modern ultra-fast startups.

Short-cut the launch curve by leaps and bounds By GL I was sure this was going to be another hyped up marketing book by someone who planned to make money by teaching others how to make money... but by the time I finished reading it I had pages and pages of notes! And that's really saying something since I've been in the marketing world for decades and find it very difficult to learn new things. This is a very practical, easy to implement, solid strategy for researching and getting something into the marketplace fast so you can get real feedback from real customers and short-cut the launch curve by leaps and bounds. Highly recommended.

By Bjorn Uhss (22tribes) A complete, practical and useful hands-on guide for anybody who wants to get going with his/her idea fast! New startups, as well as established businesses that want to try new ideas or features will benefit from this well-written book. I run a marketing and Lean Startup agency and this book gave me multiple good tips and ideas of how to further help our clients when they develop landing pages. The examples are not only relevant for marketers but anybody who wants to do the next step of quickly validating their idea. Most new ideas start with a landing page or an MVP. And this is exactly where Luke focuses his book on! He bridges the gap other literature only covers superficially. Surnames carry the history of people in a very personal way. In England, surnames were mostly established by the end of the 14th century—by ordinary people, for ordinary people. Uniquely, surnames describe medieval lives not captured by any other record. They tell us what these people did, where they went, and what they noticed, and give clues about their culture and memories. This book examines the origins of English surnames, looking at occupational names; locational names, or names that record places; nicknames and personal names; names from the Continent; and symbolic names. Where genealogists and etymologists focus on single names, this book takes groups of names and explores what these say about the society that created them. In The Origins of English Surnames, you will find the English people at a key moment in history, revealing the way they spoke, the jokes they made, and their memories of ancient cultures—all at a time when land-based feudalism was crumbling and people sought better lives.

By Amazon Customer It is an extraordinary fact that most current English surnames emerged during the years 1250-1400. Spellings have often changed, but their modern forms all link back to those medieval origins. Furthermore, all such names had meaning and, thus, social significance. Tracing the origin of present-day surnames can therefore show how our names have evolved and suggest the reasons why they were first attributed. In doing so, Joslin Fiennes, in this remarkable book, reveals rich insights into a fascinating period of English social history. It seems obvious to ask why it was that this particular period accounted for so many new names and that, at least in the English tradition, relatively few appeared later. We learn that after the Conquest, the rich Anglo-Saxon variety of first names faded, to be replaced by a relatively small bunch of Norman names - John, William, Robert, Richard, Geoffrey, Thomas - that were increasingly adopted by a large proportion of English people. With so many Johns, Williams and the rest, additional names became needed to distinguish individuals from each other. Also, the growing custom of inheritance and the shift of workers from the land into trades of various kinds, provided new legal and reputational incentives for children to be able to prove their lineage. Inheritable surnames became a key part of this process, thereby ensuring that the need for new surnames would fall away within a few generations. The names chosen by people (or, often, by others on their behalf) reflected important aspects of themselves and their lives - occupations, physical characteristics, the places where they lived and what they were like as individuals. The origins of over 1300 surnames are mentioned in the book, but the key to the author's method, and to our enjoyment of the book, lies in its discussion of names grouped together in the above ways.Because these naming conventions were so general, it is unsurprising that names such as Smith and Taylor, Brown and White (reflecting particular occupations and complexion or hair colour, respectively) were widely used across the country. Equally, people often adopted the names of the families whom they served, or of whom they were tenants. Apprentices would often take the names of their masters. Accordingly, most common names, and many less common ones too, cannot be traced back to a particular individual family of origin.Nevertheless, the author shows how the frequency of occupational names - Ushers, Sargents, Butlers, Marshalls, Hawkes, Falconers and the rest - tell their own story of the feudal system and of the ways in which it was changing during the fourteenth century. Most people were still based on the land, so the names recording rural landscape - Woods, Rivers, Weirs, etc - are particularly rich, as are those deriving from animals and birds and methods of rural husbandry. Names reveal respect for the saints, but also a growing cynicism about the institution of the church and the hypocrisy of its senior figures. They testify to the humour of people in ascribing nicknames to those whom they like and to those they disrespect. They reveal people's values, their aspirations and their fears. They demonstrate the remaining power of myth in medieval England, but also the growing seeds of criticism and revolt in a peasant society receiving rough justice at the hands of the nobility, the state and the church.Joslin Fiennes' book provides a highly original commentary on the meaning and origins of English names, together with substantial insights about the lives of ordinary people in medieval England. It will be of great interest both to those wanting to explore the meaning of particular surnames and to those with a broader interest in these aspects of social or medieval history. The book is beautifully written and wears lightly the meticulous scholarship on which it is based. It deserves to be very widely read.Christopher Colclough25 November 2015

The Other Side of Nowhere is a collection of wildlife photography from a remote area in northwestern Colorado centering along the Yampa River. The author spent several years in the area working as an itinerant biologist and photographer, and came to know the landscape and its wild inhabitants. It is a land of sagebrush and prairie, large swollen rivers and high sandstone cliffs. It is not a land of people. The Other Side of Nowhere is a photographic journey with the wildlife of this land that so few people know, from badgers and prairie dogs to sage grouse and golden eagles, along with many other species. The photographs are accompanied by a selection of stories behind how some of the photographs were taken, as well as natural history essays about the animals.

By Susan Barton, Review Gal Right at the beginning of The Other Side of Nowhere, the author discloses that the photos included in this book are his earlier work and that he struggled with whether or not to publish them. He admits that he finds “the quality of the photography is not nearly as good as the photographs (he) now takes.” He needn’t have worried. The photos in this book are GORGEOUS and well-worth sharing with readers. How many of us will ever see an absolutely still hummingbird, wildflowers spurting through the parched desert land, a freshly caught cicada in the mouth of a phoebe or wild horses frolicking among the desert sagebrush? That’s what’s so wonderful about wildlife photography. It gives everyone the unique opportunity to view scenery and wildlife we might never get to see otherwise. The author explains the stories behind many of the photographs in this book. Whether it’s the difficulty of patiently waiting for a rapidly-flying hummingbird to land long enough to snap its photo (or catching one in mid-flight), or the dangers of working so closely to the natural habitat of a venomous rattlesnake, Max Allen candidly shares his wildlife photography tales. (Incidentally, the badger with a dirt-covered face is priceless!)The author also helpfully shares his camera settings in the caption of every photo. At the end of the book, Max Allen adds additional resources for photographers and readers, including information about his equipment, some of his favorite photography locations and an extensive listing of the many types of species photographed in his book.I loved the photos and information in The Other Side of Nowhere and I can highly recommend it to other photography enthusiasts!eBook Review Gal received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Well written and illustrated reference book By Christine Goodnough THE OTHER SIDE OF NOWHEREby Max AllenBook ReviewWildlife biologist and photographer Max Allen takes readers on a naturalist’s journey into the prairie, sagebrush, and sandstone cliffs around the Yampa River, a 250-mile long tributary that squiggles its way westward across northwestern Colorado to merge with the Green River in Utah.According to the writer: “It is one of the very few rivers in the area remaining undammed and free flowing. The river offers many recreation opportunities from rafting to fishing, and of course wildlife watching and photography.”Mr. Allen includes with his photographs descriptions about some of the settings where he took them, plus photographic info. As he writes in his notes, most of the animals he’s photographed are not unique to that area, but he’s gotten some great shots of them living their “everyday lives.” For my part he could have included more about his own involvement in that region, too.I found the book very well edited and would recommend it as a coffee-table book, gift for a nature-lover, and a nice addition to a reference library.I received a free copy from The Story Cartel in exchange for my honest review, then purchased my own copy.

The great photos definitely outweigh the good ones. I really enjoyed the stories behind the photos, both for their ability to draw me into the narrative but also for the background information on the animal featured in the photo. I wish there had been more of these behind the photo pieces as it would have made the images even more enjoyable. I enjoyed the inclusion of exposure data for the individual images, and would have enjoyed it even more if the author had included lens data for the individual photos. He does however include camera and lens data at the conclusion of the book. For purposes of disclosure, I received a free copy of this book through Story Cartel for review purposes.

World War II was fought in Europe, North Africa, Southeast Asia and the Pacific but its impact penetrated life everywhere. The world, including America, would never be the same. Gene’s 40s is not a bird’s-eye view of the decade but more like a fly on the wall in small town homes, factories, ships in battle, POW camps: capturing those discrete moments of hardship, grief and laughter while the world was being turned upside-down.

"Nothing goes faster than a Pay check...!" The Minnesotans claim. "Ruby Begonia of Cuero, Texas, can take on Paycheck any time..!" is the counter claim of Texans. The two towns - Cuero in Texas and Worthington in Minnesota - have a long history of turkey production and turkey fests, claims and counter claims to be the "Turkey Capital of the World!" Unfortunately, only one town could claim the title - "Turkey Capital of the World." The Annual Great Gobbler Gallop is held during the second weekend of October every year. The challenge over the much sought after title gets renewed every year and is finally decided in Cuero, Texas, by the great gallop between ‘Ruby Begonia’ of Cuero, Texas, and ‘Paycheck’ of Worthington, Minnesota. Bets on either side get dicey when the birds actually hit the street simply because in a turkey race, anything can happen and anything and everything is possible. They say, "there is many a slip between the cup and the lip." ASHOK PRUTHI’s story of the Galloping Gobblers' is based on one of his past visits to a Turkey fest with his two children. The story has a fictional touch - a twist in the story to surprise some and to shock others. Proving the Minnesotan slogan - “Nothing runs faster than a Pay check,” - the Great Gobbler Gallop 2015 was won by ‘Paycheck’ of Worthington, Minnesota. In the end of the book there is a section where the illustrator has created a parallel set of illustrations to bring out creativity out of your children. He has drawn different illustrations just for them, and challenged them to come up with their own personal mini story-book with a different tittle, plot, acknowledgements, about the author etc., we bet would be a fun exercise for children.

Have faith, be compassionate and never give up. Note: these are the "sweet" or "closed door" versions of the Duncurra series, which have all explicit romantic content removed. The original version of these books are currently available in a bundle called "Duncurra Highlanders". Highland Solution Laird Niall MacIan needs Lady Katherine Ruthven’s dowry to relieve his clan’s crushing debt but he has no intention of giving her his heart in the bargain. Lady Katherine must forfeit everything in exchange for a husband who does not want to be married and believes all women to be self-centered and deceitful. Can the lovely and gentle Katherine mend his heart and build a life with him or will he allow the treachery of others to destroy them? Highland Courage Her parents want a betrothal, but Mairead MacKenzie can’t get married without revealing her secret and no man will wed her once he knows. Plain in comparison to her siblings and extremely reserved, Mairead has been called “MacKenzie’s Mouse” since she was a child. No one knows the reason for her timidity and she would just as soon keep it that way. When her parents arrange a betrothal to Laird Tadhg Matheson she is horrified. She only sees one way to prevent an old secret from becoming a new scandal. Secrets always have a way of revealing themselves. With Tadhg’s unconditional love, can Mairead find the strength and courage she needs to handle the consequences when they do? Highland Intrigue Lady Gillian MacLennan's clan needs a leader, but the last person on earth she wants as their laird is Fingal Maclan. She can neither forgive nor forget that his mother killed her father, and, by doing so, created Clan MacLennan’s current desperate circumstances. In spite of the challenge, Fingal is confident he can rebuild her clan, ease her heartache and win her affection. However, just as love awakens, the power struggle takes a deadly turn. Can he protect her from the unknown long enough to uncover the plot against them? Or will all be lost, destroying the happiness they seek in each other’s arms?

Wildest Dreams (The Fantasyland Series) (Volume 1), by Kristen Ashley

About the Author Kristen Ashley is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She grew up in Indiana, but has lived in Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she’s been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least), but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, living in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

I liked:- the spirited heroine- how capable and sunny she is, very positive- how she loved her parents, her friend, the hero- the dragon / pirate/ elves/ medieval ... Yes they're all there... combination- the chemistry btw alpha H/h- the humorous moments- how the society was sexually open and both sexes experimented before marriage...no taboos or hypocrisyThings I didn't like:( mild spoilers)- Frey never verbally committed to monogamy to Finnie!!!! In fact I remember him saying ( when Finnie meets an ex of his) that she should get used to it as it would happen again in the future. After marriage in this society it's okay for the male to experiment but not for the woman ( so that there is no confusion about the parents origin for any babies)And the advise Finnie's Alter ego Mom gives her is that she's been in the same situation for years and like her, Finnie should tryand keep her man happy so that he doesn't stray!!!!It's been a few months since I read this book and this still sticks like a burr in my b*tt.- Frey unilaterally closes all options of Finnie going back and never tells her, stopping all her friend's messages from reaching her. He never apologises for that. She also is on birth control and doesn't try to hide it. When he realises he doesn't confront her but replaces it by a non effective powder and she gets knocked up.He never tells her or apologises. When she finds out just before the climax, she's angry for about oh, 2 mins and then after the climax she actually apologises for shouting at him!!!!!And a few other things I didn't like but I'm tired of typing now.

And now I'm very happy I did!! Finnie is a beautiful woman who lost her parents early. She is also addicted to adventure as her parents taught her. When she discovers that a powerful witch can send her to another world where there are twins to everyone in Finnie's world, she knows she has to go. The chance to see her parents again, or at least their twins, is too good to pass up. Her twin agrees to make the switch because she is unhappy in her world. Finnie sends her tons of information about the world she will find so her twin will be prepared. Unfortunately, her twin doesn't return the favor. There is a LOT she neglects to tell Finnie. So when Finnie arrives in the other world she finds herself minutes away from getting married!! From that moment on Finnie embarks on the adventure of a lifetime. She will find love, friendship, parents, hardship, and pain. I was simply amazed from page one!!! Please don't let the fact that this is fantasy put you off if you normally wouldn't read from that genre. Grab the book and hang on for the ride!!!!!

My least favorite book in this series - but still definatley worth the .99 By hollieanne Ive read all the books in the Fantasyland series, and this was my least favorite. It still made for a decent read, but it just felt as it was lacking something the other 3 books in this series had. It was just.........Blah.I found myself becoming annoyed with the repetitive phrases and terms used. It was complete overkill. For example:Cool - used 83 timesFreaking - used 80 timesHo Boy - 39 times usedIn general, I just didn’t ever feel the connection between Finnie and Frey. They didn’t seem to have the same intensity of other characters in the Fantasyland series. Even the sex scenes seemed dull to me. I found Finnie to be weak. And she cried, and cried and cried. I just found her so tiring. I did not like anything about her character. That being said, however, it was well worth the .99.

“Nobody outside of despots and tyrants and dictators bent on world domination ever wants to go to war. And yet entire nations of people are moved to do so because, to put it simply, there is no other choice... They can try to put it off. They can institute political and economic policies that ignore the underlying realities and watch as conditions deteriorate to the breaking point. They can try futilely to stem the tide of history. But they can only kick the can so far down the road. Ultimately, people go to war.”

So writes Christopher Petitt in this groundbreaking work. Global economic malaise, record financial inequality, chaos in the Middle East (including the rise of ISIS), Russian expansion, the Eurozone crisis, the growth of China’s military, the loss of American influence – the world is beginning to see turmoil that may rival the global turmoil of the 1930s on the eve of the Second World War. Are there instructive parallels? The power structures of the world are changing, and if history is a guide, the changing will not come quietly.

In The Crucible of Global War – And the Sequence that is Leading Back to It, Petitt – history devotee, market economist, avid student of Middle East affairs – lays out in chilling detail the connections between today’s geopolitical disorder and the critical moments throughout history that have preceded times of global war. Is it humankind’s destiny to experience global war again? Is war inevitable? The Crucible of Global War is a page-turning exposition of history, politics, economics, current events, and philosophy – a must-read for anyone interested in gaining insight into the nature of history and the inexorable unfolding of the perilous times ahead.

I'm always reading books on history and current events but I've never come across one this broad in scope. (Yet easy to read.) I'm still digesting it, but it's hard to argue Petitt's theory. Clearly he knows his economic theory and he knows his history. If you follow the trails of both of these disciplines, as he has, you get a completely new perspective on how history's major periods of war have come about. I'm not sure we can avoid another global war scenario this time around, but at least the events going on in the world now make more sense to me. Petitt's book provides a context that's sorely missing. I'd like to think major policymakers will read "The Crucible of Global War." They certainly should. Important book, this one.

I found it absolutely fascinating and could not help think how just in the past six months we have seen significant movement towards the conclusions the Mr. Petitt reaches from his thought provoking analysis. The historical and economic perspective that he provides is enlightening and leads one to the conclusion that the future is very uncertain and a new world order is unfolding before us. Anyone interested in history, economics or politics will enjoy this book and will have new insight into the events in the coming years. It’s a fact filled book that reads like a novel!

History is explained over the last four or five hundred in relation to big economic booms like the Industrial Revolutions and th By Manygoodbooks The book is fascinating. It makes sense. History is explained over the last four or five hundred in relation to big economic booms like the Industrial Revolutions and the Space Age. They come to an end, financial crisis results, conflict around the globe heats up and then a new economic boom sprouts. Petitt’s thoughts conveyed in the book support the case for economic determinism. What’s interesting are his use of lesser know historical facts to support the theory. For example, I had forgotten all about the Bonus Army revolt in the 1930s. The book is easy to follow and well written. Probably the best parts of the book are those dealing with the world’s current problems in energy, globalization, and the sectarian regimes in the Middle East. It also talks at length about the causes and effects of economic inequality. For the nonfiction reader, it covers many bases: history, economics, war, politics and current events. Human nature even supports the case. No doubt after reading the book, one will look at the current world situation in a new light.
