The Legend of King Arthur There is a lot that has been said about King Arthur in the Arthurian Legends. Many people have read or heard about him either as a real person or as a legendary figure. King Arthur is still a great mythic figure of English literature. He was a great warrior, ruler and military leader who united Britain in the medieval period. However, it is King Arthur as a legendary figure that has mostly captured the imagination and attention of readers. What cannot be denied is the influence the Legend of King Arthur has on literature, music, art and society. The Legend has been portrayed in movies, novels and art, but the reader will get all that in this book. This is a captivating story about King Arthur, the Sword in the Stone, the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin the wizard and the Quest for the Holy Grail. It is entertaining as well as informational. Arthur wielded a magical sword known as Excalibur which helped him win all the battles. He lived in a glorious kingdom called Camelot. He married the beautiful Queen Guinevere who later fell in love with Sir Lancelot one of the King Arthur’s favorite Knights. This led to the King’s pursuit of Sir Lancelot during which the his son Mordred took over the throne and married his wife Queen Guinevere. Eventually, the King returned to Camelot when he heard this, and a war broke out which ultimately resulted in his death.

Everything to know about King Arthur and his men By Sanjin I enjoyed this book, I love all about King Arthur and the mystery surrounding him and his knights. It doesn't matter if you think that this is only a legend or that it is true, this is still a good book to read. The writing is simple and straightforward, not much whimsy to it. Because of that, the book is highly informative, but at the same time a bit boring in some places. I am puzzled by categorization of this book on Amazon, it is clearly not sci-fi or fantasy. Maybe the subject matter is a little fantastic, depends how you look at it, but I wouldn't put it in a fantasy genre. If you are looking for an informative book about King Arthur, this is for you. If you are looking for a thrilling adventure with him in a lead role, maybe not so much.

I believe this legend is where graphic novels came from. He was the hero of the dark ages. His legend became exponential when they made the highly accessible movies to hype his legend. I watched many, and enjoyed the restricted rated version of Camelot. The story too me is where Seigel and Shuster created their Man of Steel. Arthur had his Knights of the Round Table (Justice League), and Lancelot (Jimmy Olsen). And his wife Gwenovere (Lois Lane), he was equipped with Excalibur (SM's cape) as an indestructible aid. I don't have a Merlin comparison, but this book tells the actual story. bravo.

By Doris Bush Although the story about King Arthur and his twelve knights is just a mere legend, their story has captivated the hearts of many people around the world. It has been depicted on films with lots of variations. Every character has great stories to tell. The book was comprehensive as there were some details that I never read or heard from stories I have watched, read or heard before. I didn’t even know that there were two magical swords! This book also enlightened me about the intriguing love triangle of King Arthur, Queen Guinevere and Sir Lancelot. I enjoyed reading the whole book!

There was a lot of love ones lost in this story By April ****received as a gift for a honest review****What an emotional, heartbreaking, and loving tale. There was a lot of love ones lost in this story. An unstable mother and Tessa being dragged from her Nana.Tessa gets back to her Nana and starts up all her old friendships. Sarah, Brady, and Owen are great friends.I don't want to spoil the story but I did tear up a few times. It was wonderfully written. To see how they go through so much and finally come out the outside stronger.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I really enjoyed the first half of this book By Elizabeth Barone I really enjoyed the first half of this book. It was a sweet, light read, with the main character Tessa reconnecting with her grandmother and childhood friends while recovering from an unpleasant upbringing. The story was imbued with hope, despite the tragedy that Tessa had faced. I especially enjoyed the blossoming romance between Tessa and Brady. I felt like I really got to know him.Tessa had no plans to remain in Campbellsville past the end of summer, but she'd reconciled all that she'd lost, enabling her to move forward before she returns to college. Brady leaves her a sweet note asking her to stay. Tessa must choose between the future that she'd planned and the new future that she could have.I breezed through the book up until this point. I felt pretty satisfied with Tessa's character arc, though I still didn't feel as if I knew her very well. It didn't bother me too much, though, because I really liked the other characters. Then tragedy strikes, and everything that Tessa had hoped for is destroyed in just a matter of minutes. It was here that the story stopped working for me.Mainly, there were two elements that I felt really detracted from the story: 1) the heavy reliance on loss to move things forward and 2) the glossing over of these losses. If the entire second half of the book had been about how Tessa recovers and moves on, Twist Into Me would have immediately become one of my favorites. Instead, I felt like the story was rushed and the pivotal plot point halfway through was used as an excuse to throw two characters with hardly any chemistry together. I just did not buy the second romance—especially when their first real kiss was described as making Tessa nauseous. I think the intent was for the reader to feel Tessa's inner conflict, but for me it just wasn't believable.I didn't feel like I got to know her second love interest very well at all. He's hardly mentioned in the first half of the book, and the only part of him that I saw in the second half was grieving man and sometimes helpful hero. Because the first half of the novel was so strong, though, I was willing to continue and give Tessa and guy #2 a chance. Then Tessa's past literally walks into town and she's forced to face it. It seemed that there would be some kind of reconciliation there, but there never is. I felt like this element of the story was just thrown in to give Tessa (more of) a hard time. Finally, Tessa is walloped with yet another painful loss. How does she overcome this? We never find out, because the book ends there. There's an epilogue that skips two years ahead and this major death is basically glossed over. The epilogue is used to tie up some loose ends, and that's that. This completely ruined it for me. The last few chapters of a book are supposed to serve as the wind-down, completing the plot and the main character's arc. An epilogue serves as an additional conclusion. I felt like Twist Into Me was missing at least one more chapter between the major loss and the epilogue. It all just ended so abruptly. The writing itself was pretty good. I especially enjoyed the interactions between Tessa's group of friends. I really loved the bar they all hung out in. Most of the characters felt very real to me (with the exception of love interest #2). I loved that it was set in a flower shop in a small town. The author definitely seemed to know her stuff about floral design.Twist Into Me definitely started off with promise, but the second half simply felt rushed.

A sweet read By Miss Gill I was given this ebook in exchange for an honest review.I enjoyed this book and would really rate at three and a half but as that's not an option and three isn't enough I've given it a four. This was a sweet read with a lot of emotional situations that made you feel for the main characters.Tessa returns to the only home she has ever known after eight years of no contact with her grandmother. Circumstances between Tessa's grandmother and mother meant that she was cut off from her grandmother and she was elated to finally have the chance to spend time with her again. Returning home also meant that she was given the chance to catch up with long lost friends who she missed more than she realised. Within this group of friends is the chance of finding love but things are far from easy and Tessa has to deal with grief, her mother and decisions of her future. This was a book that flowed well and a believable pace. The supporting cast of characters were great and I probably wouldn't have minded more about them too. Definitely a book worth spending time to read.

By Jacob Della Pietra Succinct, articulate, and remarkably informative, "Modes: No More Confusion: Guitar Master Manual" surpasses all expectations of the traditional guitar instruction and theory manual. Brett Miller has achieved impeccable tutelage with this book. For me, modes and scales have been some of the most challenging and rewarding endeavors in the formidable world of guitar theory, yet Brett Miller introduces each mode, scale, exercise, concept, and technique in a clear, methodical, and easy-to-follow fashion. SNIPERS !!THE TOP SNIPER UNITS IN THE WORLDThis book is for young men or anyone interested going to the military and joining a Sniper Unit. This book is not for military historians or ex- military guys looking for new info.If you are a historian or ex-military, please buy another book. This book is not for you, there are other books more suited for you.Snipers are probably some of the most mysterious figures in modern military culture. Many movies have been made about snipers and operations they have been involved in.However, most people do not know much about the world of shadows of the modern military sniper. For some, the image of a sniper evokes some disturbing imagery – a stealth gunman, undetectable, and ready to fire anytime. For others, snipers are “cowards” lurking under covers, staying still in their hiding spots, waiting for the perfect moment to strike at their target. But there are also people who believe that snipers are highly-trained soldiers who perfectly knows when and when not to pull that trigger. In this book, I want to show the reader what it takes to become a sniper and also what an important role they play in militaries across the world. In This Book We Will Look At The Following:

  • The History of Snipers
  • Selection and Training
  • The Elite Sniper Units In The World
  • A Day in The Life of A Sniper
  • What Type of Person becomes A Sniper?
  • How To Become a Sniper
  • Modern Sniper Weapons

By Dianne Reid I was always impressed about snipers and how great they are at what they do. The training and a typical day for a sniper is no way easy. The physical and mental burden of a professional sniper is so great that the sniper schools need to weed out those who are not fit for the job as early as possible. With the help of this book, I got a glimpse of the history of snipers, their nature of work, the best schools in the world, and the usual route to becoming a sniper in the US Armed Forces. There are a lot to learn from this book about snipers. After reading this book, I was even more impress with the snipers.

The author describes the people he meets and the nature he observes. It is quite obvious from this book that the author is a poet at heart, and quite a few poems are mixed into his prose. It is not the best story I've ever read and there are no underlying plots: just a simple documentation of one authors journey as he travels part way across the country. It's short and it's free. Definately worth downloading to join the author on his adventure for a few hours.

By Mark Savary Such a beautiful work, and an excellent introduction to the writing of Richard Le Gallienne."October Vagabonds" is a relatively short novel, its beauty all the more concentrated for it. I'd not heard of Le Gallienne beforehand, and found his writing style both engaging and very accessible. His obvious love for the subject, a walking tour through New York State, communing with Nature, a love of simple people, is evident on every page. Also bearing in mind the time in which the story took place (1908) and was published (1910), we have an almost contemporary report on then-rural parts of New York State that may be of interest to regional history buffs. Like "Travels with Charley" by John Steinbeck, Le Gallienne crafts a story of real places, real towns, real events, as his two Bohemian characters travel along. This is a sensitive work, full of the romance of Nature, and almost poem-like in its approach. It's the kind of work that creates a special mood, and will leave you longing for more. And imagine, this copy was FREE! Formatting is good, with only the occasional typo, certainly nothing that would distract the reader from the text.Fortunately, many of Richard Le Gallienne's other works are also available on Kindle (for free, no less!), and I plan on exploring his work further.

A long scenic walk By Steven Bolinger This was an enjoyable recounting of two naturalist artists who decide to hike back to New York rather than take the train. They did not want to return to soon to the noise and clutter of city life. A nice short excursion thru up state New York around the turn of the century. Maybe not for everyone.but if you like travel writing and observations of people whom they met on the way it is rewarding.

Pristine Seas: Journeys to the Ocean's Last Wild Places, by Enric Sala

Review “Growing up by the sea, I developed a real love and understanding of our ocean. As I have travelled from Pole-to-Pole working to protect this precious asset, I have for a long time supported the work of Dr Enric Sala to protect the last wild places in the ocean. Enric became a friend and I gladly agreed to serve on the board of Pristine Seas. With this book, Enric makes us travel to these extraordinary places, revealing what the future of the ocean could be, if we take the right decisions for its recovery.”—H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco “Sala's passion is enduring, the work ahead… immense.”—Minnesota Public Radio “National Geographic explorer Enric Sala founded a project to find, explore, and protect the few remaining wild places in our oceans. Partnering with Leonardo DiCaprio, he’s already inspired world leaders to create ocean sanctuaries. His new book, Pristine Seas, highlights ten aquatic Edens.”—The Guardian “National Geographic explorer in residence Enric Sala, author of the new book Pristine Seas: Journeys to the Ocean’s Last Wild Places, calls these regions ‘fish banks,’ in which fishing operators can draw down the interest without depleting the capital.”—The Washington Post   “The book is an expedition memoir that presents a glimpse into the past as well as offering inspiration and hope for the future . . . Sala’s photography is stunning, almost unbelievable in capturing the beauty of mostly unexplored locations with unusual and exotic wildlife.”—Apogee Photo Magazine"Sala's gorgeous large-format book, radiant with National Geographic photography, documents crystal-clear waters, huge schools of sharks, lagoons dotted with jellyfish, and the rich pastels of unspoiled coral reefs." --Natural History

Terribly disappointed and have to put the blame for that on the publisher - National Geographic of all! The worst part was the type and the placement of photo descriptions. Forget now, bc I only had it a matter of hours before returning it. In places the type was Bold - possibly headings. GOOD! But then for some bizarre reason the further description was grayed out on white pages. Difficult to read. Also after the cover which had me drooling over "The More" to be inside, there just were not enough photos of these Pristine areas for me. The other thing I didn't like that was also a publishing decision was that more often than not the description was not ON the photo pg and not even on the overleaf - sometimes several pgs distant. I've never seen a photography book laid out that way where one had to nearly hunt for the description, go back to that page to connect some specifics, etc. No. Did not like it at all. The Seller was terrific in refunding the purchase and accepting the book's return.

This beautiful book is a real treasure of pictures and information. There are well over 100 stunning colour photographs of life in the oceans and the book is forwarded by the hugely popular actor Leonardo DiCaprio. It's a gorgeous and weighty hardback that is an absolute pleasure to read and/or just sit and enjoy the fantastic photographs. Highly recommended to anyone who loves the sea or cares about the conservation of our oceans and associated sea-life.In 2008 Enric Sala joined the ranks of National Geographic explorers and started the Pristine Seas project (visit pristineseas.org). In the book we visit 10 places around the world where the seas can be described as still 'Pristine'. Enric Sala, his team and their key partners have joined efforts with some success to inspire country leaders to protect these remaining pristine sea locations. At each location the book provides maps and dazzlingly wonderful colour photographs of sea animals, plant and fish species. Many of these places are wild and untouched providing perfect environments to allow many unique photo opportunities. There is geographical information and details of the dives and findings. Many of these places under the water have never been visited by man before. In his forward Leonardo DiCaprio writes 'Losing the wildest places in our oceans, and on our planet, is not just a crime against nature - it's a crime against every species on Earth. Pristine Seas gives me hope and proves that our oceans can be protected for generations to come'. This is a beautiful book memorable for its message and glorious images. Thank you to Louise at lrtpublicity.co.uk for the review copy. I will pass it on to my local library for others to enjoy.

I can assure you, he is looking on from somewhere and loving this book. And maybe even envying it a little bit.Jacques would envy it because of the combination of beauty and brains. For beauty I’m not talking about the author (though he has been compared to Antonio Banderas for his good looks). I’m talking about the gorgeous, “oh my goodness,” photos that range from a “bold snapper” staring at you from Pitcairn Island to fisheye shots of leaf corals at Ducie Atoll — from schooling hammerhead sharks at Cocos Island to close-ups of seahorses. Suffice it to say the book is a visual splendor. Yet there’s much more.Enric Sala has ventured to the far corners of the oceans in a way that few have since Cousteau. He has discovered relatively pristine ecosystems in some of the less visited locations like Sala y Gomez and the Line Islands. His travels are amazing as he takes us to so many truly obscure ocean locations — like the Desventuradas — the Unfortunate Islands — somewhere in the middle of nowhere off of Chile. I found myself looking closely at the maps, thinking, “What in the … I never knew this place existed."But the thing that Jacques would have envied most is the brain power behind the text. This is not your typical tourist book for nature. It’s the voice of the cutting edge of knowledge on our planet regarding how the world’s oceans are doing. And guess what ...The news is actually fairly inspiring. Despite centuries of abuse, there are signs we may be able to put the skids on the decline and pull the oceans up out of the nose dive everyone feared was happening a decade ago. That’s the conclusion you come to by the time you finish reading the book. And more importantly, the National Geographic Pristine Seas program that produced the book is working to double the amount of ocean area around the world under protection. If anyone is qualified to give an overall assessment of the oceans it is veteran marine biologist Enric Sala. It’s a great book, and only fitting that he opens it with the forward from Leonardo DiCaprio, who has himself been fighting for decades to protect nature. Then, near the end of the book, Sala quotes the other famous Leonardo (Da Vinci) who said that some day people will see the murder of an animal, “as they now see the murder of a man.”Things are changing, there is hope for the oceans, and this book does an excellent job of capturing that optimism. It is a landmark achievement, that Jacques Cousteau truly would have applauded.

Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. A forgotten gem of American literary regionalism By Karl Janssen Emanuel Haldeman-Julius is best known as the publisher of the Little Blue Books, popular inexpensive paperbacks on a variety of subjects that sold hundreds of millions of copies. For several years he was also the editor of the most prominent socialist newspaper in America, the Appeal to Reason. His wife Marcet Haldeman-Julius was his partner in business as well as family matters. Though best know for their publishing company, headquartered in the little town of Girard in southeast Kansas, the two were also writers, as evidenced by their jointly authored novel Dust, published in 1921. Dust is set in the fictional town of Fallon, Kansas, a surrogate for Girard. From the title and its setting, I was expecting a hard-scrabble agricultural epic, perhaps a farmer fighting for his family’s survival against a pitiless soil and unforgiving climate. There’s definitely a little of that here, but mostly Dust is a novel about marriage. And judging by the marriage from hell depicted in this book, the Haldeman-Juliuses must have had one complicated union. When Martin Wade was a young man, he came to Kansas from Ohio with his parents and siblings. They picked out a patch of unwelcoming dirt and called it their own. Through years of struggle and toil the family built a farm from this dust. A lot of time passes in chapter one, and soon Martin is a grown man and master of his agricultural domain. His farm is one of the most respected operations in the county, yet Martin feels like it’s missing one important element, a wife. He soon convinces Rose Conroy to fill the position. Martin is an active but stern man with an atheistic and materialistic view of life. He willingly does the work of several men because he recognizes that work is the most effective distraction from the pointlessness and hardship of life. Rose’s outlook on life is not so harshly constructed. She believes in traditional virtues like love, happiness, and beauty, while all Martin believes in is stock, feed, and dollars. Once united in marriage, Rose feels more like a servant in Martin’s household than a wife. Like any bride, she longs to be loved, or at least appreciated. Instead, she finds herself a prisoner to his unrelenting and emotionless devotion to toil.Though the setting and subject matter may be similar to writings by Hamlin Garland or Willa Cather, stylistically Dust has more in common with the blunt and brutal naturalism of Frank Norris’s novel McTeague. The language is plain and straightforward, not in a pedestrian way but in an insightfully precise descriptive manner devoid of superfluous flourishes. The psychology of the characters is intricate and authentic. They unapologetically behave the way real human beings would behave, regardless of fictional conventions or the desires and expectations of the reader. There’s not a lot of sentimental nostalgia for the good ol’ farming life in this book. In fact, it may be one of the more depressing novels you’ll ever read, but it’s certainly never boring. The reader becomes riveted to the characters’ plight, and it’s never clear what’s going to happen next. In its own way, the book is rather inspirational for its depiction of how not to live your life. It really compels the reader to consider the relative importance of work, family, money, and love in his or her own life.As a transplanted Kansans, the Haldeman-Juliuses are sort of local heroes of mine, for the little Parnassus of the Plains they established in Girard. I knew they were both writers, but I had no idea they could write this well. Dust may be largely forgotten today, but it deserves to be remembered alongside the works of Garland, Cather, Norris, and other great American realists of the early 20th century.

P. PalmerEdition reviewed; Haldeman-Julius, E. & M. (n.d.) Dust. Girard, Kansas: Haldeman-Julius Publications. The reason for reading this novel by Emmanuel and Marcet Haldeman-Julius is that I have become interested in the scientific content of the little blue books, which were published and printed by the Haldeman-Julius's at their printing press in Girard, Kansas. Their life and work has become of interest to me."Dust" is a gritty novel, and a depressing read. It runs to 251 pages in this edition, in a large print using a small format page, so is not lengthy, but the plot takes in three generations of struggle of the Wade family on a Kansas farm. Emanuel and Marcet ran a farm in Girard, Kansas, so the feel for the life of a farming family is there and I suspect that the detail of the fictitious Wades is in fact fairly true to life. The characters are drawn boldly and we see their views about and understanding of life made clear and explicit, yet the characters tend to the two dimensional, rather than fully formed. The obvious struggles are against the dust, the harshness of the lack of money and resources and the hard-bitten characters formed by the interplay of the environment on human nature. There is thus tragedy piled onto tragedy, which is why I claim it to be a depressing read. There is another gender battle going on which I suspect is Marcet's contribution as she had `modern' views on the nature of marriage.Bill Palmer

Knowing what this story was about and hearing the title of the first chapter “The Dust is Stirred” was intriguing to me as it takes place on the Kansas Prairie where the tallgrass grows.Three generations survive and thrive on their farm through the ages. This story was somewhat of a surprise with an unexpected twist of fate with Martin and Rose. I would like to think that the earlier pioneers would have been in more of a state of content than the story portrays, although I know times were hard. The story was somewhat sad but worth a listen. My curiosity lead me to look up the authors of this book and I found their story to be really neat as well. I found them listed in the Kansas Historical Society.About the narrator: Lee Ann Howlett told this story the way it was meant to be. The times were hard and people were haggard and worn. She portrayed this perfectly. She added the element that portrayed the lives of the early pioneers as they moved west. Great work!

I am drawn to this devotional for its use of older but beautiful and reverent style of prayer language, so reflective of the early 1900's when it was first published. The original but tiny hardback I had for years began to fall apart, so I was very pleased to find this large, easy-to-read paperback reprint that is an exact copy of the original, down to the old-style font of the day.

The information is well organized.I bought all three Marine Division Unit Rosters ebooks that this author has published, and find them very useful for my research.Practical note: I had to use font size 1 when viewing on my phone using the Kindle app or the information was truncated, but, given that the data is in a table, this is acceptable. The table headers are only on the first page of each table, but, from what I understand, this is a limitation of the Kindle.

Sumrall Captain Sigsbee of the Maine puts together the facts and inadvertently preserves some that have yet to be fully explored and may tarnish him yet. There is no question that Sigsbee was troubled by the explosion although it did not end his career. When a commanding officer lives and most of his command dies there will always be a taint of guilt, and despite his explanations in the book, some facts come out that have yet to be investigated and oddly, yet they are in the .historical record preserved by Sigsbee. See if you can spot the Maine's smoking gun that no one has ever publicly admitted or investigated, yet may have been the cause of the explosion of the Maine. Helpful hint: ignore the spanish mine and coal bunker fire theories...what else can cause a fire/explosion on a ship and what cascade of events can lead to it. The Spanish, not even having the facts, suggested it. You may find yourself coming at least to a suspicion that even the Rickover investigation of the seventies (which suggested a coal bunker fire) may have been tainted by a desire for a specific result, not necessarily getting to the truth. Conspiracy? Maybe. Perhaps at first a conscious conspiracy for patriotic reasons that eventually was gently debunked by Rickover, but perhaps even Rickover and his team fell victim to an unconscious conspiracy of "what I want it to be" rather than "what it was most likely".

In Nashville they call it "The Number System." Easy to understand, this book will have you immediately composing your own tunes and arranging simple ways to accompany any song you want to play or sing. In fact, I know a girl who joined a band after practicing these short lessons after only two weeks. The Nashville number system was created for studio musicians to easily transcribe songs into different keys depending on the vocal range of the singer. MUSIC IS NUMBERS will show you how to create different harmonic sound combinations. It's as easy as mixing yellow and blue paint to create the color green. Here is a copy of the letter inside the book. Dear Friend, I have developed this easy program to teach the simple mechanics of music. We live in a 3 dimensional world measured by numbers. Music is also 3 dimensional and measured with numbers. Timing is dictated by the space in between the notes. It is the rhythm that evokes the emotion of the music just like breath, the beating of our hearts and the waves breaking on the sand. Music is the universal language that speaks to all living things. There is evidence that plants grow healthier when exposed to music. Some farmers have been known to put speakers in their fields to play symphonies for their crops. Many times when I play the piano, small animals will come on my porch to be entertained. A lullaby will calm a baby and put it to sleep. Even the earth sings as she soars through the solar system spinning on her axis. Our world is full of music. I often use the sounds of nature when I write music. The birds sing, the waves move, the stream babbles and the wind whistles. I actually wrote a different melody for each season. I was inspired by leaves falling in the autumn, cold wind and snow blowing in the winter, the beauty and renaissance of spring and the warmth and playfulness of summer. After taking this course you will have the basic tools to create your own compositions. Like an artist with a blank canvas and colorful paints, you will also be able to create a unique style of playing that belongs only to you. To learn more visit me at cynthiamusic.com Have fun! Cynthia

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. This Should Be Your Next Read! By Erinarkin20 Loved it!I feel like I am starting to sound like a broken record when I review books by Melissa West but I almost don’t even care. Trust me when I say that Melissa West needs to be on your radar. I fell in love with her writing in the YA genre but she has easily won me over with both her New Adult books and now her Adult Romance books. Your B&B or Mine has a lot of things – wonderful characters, a story that pulled me into their lives, and of course plenty of swoon and banter.Savannah Hale is headed back to Maple Cove and it isn’t because of anything good. After her mother’s recent passing, she is now trying to figure out what to do with the bed and breakfast her family has run for her entire life. On top of that, there are a lot of painful memories in Maple Cove that Savannah prefers to leave in the past and now that she is back in town, they are all right in front of her – including Logan Park..the man she would prefer not to remember. What to say about Logan…he definitely has some demons. Growing up in Maple Cove he always noticed Savannah but there were a number of things that kept him from doing anything about it. The first being his family and the thought that he wasn’t good enough for Savannah. He always did his best to keep his distance but then his best friend Will notices Savannah and reason number two turns out to be Will.West delivers by creating such real characters and stories I can become invested in. I was immediately drawn into this story because I could connect with both Savannah and Logan. I needed to know how Logan was going to get past the guilt he felt not only for being in love with his best friend’s girl but also because he survived. And Savannah was also facing her own guilt – for not being there when her mother died and for not loving Will like she felt she should have. Seeing these two work through all of this and then realizing they both mean more to each other than they thought was what made this story for me. Also, the banter between these two made me smile.I also loved the secondary characters am crossing my fingers that we get to learn more about Savannah’s brother and sister…and perhaps get glimpses of these two in the future. As I have said before, if you haven’t read anything by Melissa West yet you should fix that. If you’re looking for a great romance that will have you rooting for both the heroine and hero, consider checking this one out when you can. Great characters, a wonderful story, and of course some swoon to make you want a Logan of your very own.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Checking into Maple Cove By Book Gannet This book left me feeling utterly wrung out. Not because of the grief or the guilt or other such emotions experienced by the characters, but because it made me angry and frustrated and I wanted to smack certain characters on the back of the head. This might also have been because I wasn’t feeling too well when I read this, but it just proves that you need to be in a good mood before you pick this up or it might make you feel worse.Savannah is heading home to Maple Cove after the death of her mother. As the oldest of three siblings, she’s the one expected to sort everything out – from the funeral to the B&B itself. But she’s barely arrived back in town when she finds the boy she once loved and lost is back – and he wants to buy the B&B. And that is where my angry feelings began. Firstly, why does Savannah have to do everything? Her siblings are both capable adults, but the way they duck out of everything, then pick at her decisions made me hate both of them. Her sister just sneaks around, while her brother continuously puts her in difficult positions, while bickering loudly with each other at every possible moment. As for the whole kissing booth thing… that was worrying on many levels. Then there’s Logan of the impossibly bad timing. She doesn’t even get through the door before he tells her he’s going to buy her childhood home from underneath her. Then whenever Savannah’s having trouble with something, he pops up to smirk in a really infuriating way. There are times when he’s sweet and supportive and promises to help – then the dreaded smirk returns and I wanted to kick him in the shins or something. Add in the gossipy town and I came close to hating the whole thing.I felt really bad for Savannah and everything she’s trying to cope with. And yet she frustrated me too. Why did she leave and stay away for so long if her family was so great? I get that she was embarrassed by the talk about her and Logan, especially considering her previous relationship with Will, but most of her summer with Logan was secret so no one knew what happened. And Logan was gone! Why did she waste so much time away from her family? I could have understood if her brother and sister had been angry at her for being so far away for so long, but instead they were just annoying and useless, which made me feel bad for Savannah again.Luckily around halfway, after the funeral, most of my anger went away. Probably because the focus of the novel changes to trying to save the B&B, while her relationship with Logan also begins to develop. However, I was still annoyed because Logan is living a life he doesn’t even enjoy for his dead best friend, while lamenting the horrible fact that Savannah is going to lose the B&B – all because of him. The solution is obvious and I went back to wanting to kick him in the shins or whack him on the head to make him see sense. The man is an idiot. At least Savannah changes throughout the book and is willing to take a chance, but Logan just went around in circles. However, despite my frustrations and angry moments, this is a good tale. The romance was enjoyable, and if I’d been feeling a little better I probably wouldn’t have got so annoyed. Even though neither of Savannah’s siblings cover themselves in glory in this book, I’m intrigued enough to want to know more of their tale – especially her brother – so I’ll definitely be keeping a look out for more from Maple Cove. I just hope the next one won’t stir quite so many exhausting emotions in me.(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. very sweet romance! By mandy This is such a sweet romance! Savannah comes back to her hometown after the death of her mother. She plans to take over her family legacy and run the Bed and Breakfast. She doesn't know that the B&B is actually in financial distress and Logan Park is working for a company to help take over the B&B. Logan was the best friend of her deceased boyfriend, Will. Savannah has always had feelings for Logan but didn't know he felt the same for her. After Will died, she spent time with Logan and they got closer but then he left without a goodbye. Now that he's back and Savannah is in town, they find out some feelings never go away.I really enjoyed this super sweet romance. I wasn't sure how I felt about Logan at first but really loved him by the end of the story. I loved the epilogue for this story - it left me with a huge smile on my face. I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a sweet romance!
