3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Ahead of His Time By Ivan Sayer Albert Schweitzer was a member of 'Medecins Sans Frontieres' sixty years before that organisation existed. In 1913 he built the first room of a hospital in a disused chicken-coop in Lambarene. In spite of it being closed when he became a prisoner of war, in spite of the failure of his investments after World War I, and many other problems, that hospital is still going. Schweitzer was a christian who asked himself 'What did Jesus do ?'. His answer to that question was this: He walked with the poor and healed their diseases. Schweitzer decided he was going to do the same, in spite of the fact that he could have had resounding success in any number of occupations in comfortable places. We need this story of spiritual success to hold up the mirror to our follies.
