We all thought that he threaded a dangerous territory and that what he met up with was indeed a lesson for anyone contemplating the idea of writing anything contrary to the desires of 'god's chosen few'. But he has surprised us all and produced, as the Somalis put it, 'Gold' again. We now have the equivalent of the Orientalism and Culture and imperialism of Edward Said: only this time it is written in an African language, for Africa and against the Middle East and the Arabs. Halgankii Tukeyaasha: Carabtu Sidee U Jileen Madowga? ( The Struggle of the Crows: How Have the Arabs Painted The Black?) is about the 'The Black' and 'Blackness' created by the Arabs; it is about the invented 'Black' who the Arab liked and likes to see; it is about the use of religion to justify slavery and racism in the Arab world, it is the Arabs' rejection of his fellow Black Muslim because of the color of his skin; it is about the Arabs use of religion to portray a superior image of themselves to the others- particularly to the Black, and thus give their abuse a religious validity; it is about the abuse of power ( The Islamic Empire which had been led largely by the Arabs, especially for the first several centuries) to implement racist ideologies under the disguise of religion. He wrote for the 'Other' victim; the victim of the Arab racism shrouded, too, in religious cloth. Abdisaid repeatedly raises and points to the fact that so much has been said and written of the European colonization and slave trade of Africa, but almost nothing about that of the Arabs, which lasted centuries longer, and which continues to exist in many more harmful forms than physical slavery in the Arab world. Abdisaid is perhaps the ideal person to write on this subject; the Arabs and the issue of Race and Religion, because he had lived and received his higher education in a prototype Arab country, Saudi Arabia, for more than two decades and received first hand 'education' in the Arab ways and norms. He has deep knowledge of the Arab language and culture, and this is clear in the book. Somalis should very proud of Abdisaid, and so should the world, for this unique addition to the Somali Library and that of the world at large: It truly deserves, not just a national, but an international recognition. Very sensitive issue and one brave man; and as the Somalis put it, about Abdisaid , we can say "weli rag baa nool" (yes; there still exist men!).

It is a reading epic and a history thriller. How Arabs treated with the people of colour is a history that before Abdisaid no one have tried to write in Somali. Fortunately, Abdisaid Abdi Ismael, the author of "Xadka Riddada Maxaa ka Run ah?" has dared to fill that positin. That is an excellent opportunity for the readers of the Somali language to order. HT is so informative that it takes your emotions to tears. Some friends who read Halganka Tukeyaasha call it the book of the decade, a golden gift and one of the books you will never let to be out of your bookshelf.The history Abdisaid has forwarded comes from numerous books that not many wanted to tell to the people of colour. Some of the revolts of the people of colour continued from its beginnings to the present. I would suggest that HT should be a part of the curriculum of the high schools and universities in Somalia.

The most influential military treatise in the western world from Roman times to the 19th Century was Vegetius’ De Re Militari. Its influence on our own traditions of discipline and organization are evident everywhere. Richard Coeur de Lion carried De Re Militari everywhere with him in his campaigns, as did his father, Henry II of England. Manuscript copies survive from the 10th to the 15th centuries. It was translated into English, French, and Bulgarian before the invention of printing. The first English printed edition was by William Caxton in 1489. Flavius Vegetius Renatus was a Roman of high rank in the late fourth century. In some manuscripts he is given the title of count, but unfortunately little else is known of his life. He states quite frankly that his purpose was to collect and synthesize from ancient manuscripts and regulations the military customs and wisdom that made ancient Rome such a powerful military force. According to his statement, his principal sources were Cato the Elder, Cornelius Celsus, Paternus, Frontinus, and the regulations and ordinances of Augustus, Trajan and Hadrian. The first book treats of the choice and exercises of new troops; the second explains the establishment of the legion and the method of discipline; and the third contains the dispositions for action. This edition is the 1767 translation by Lieutenant John Clarke.

By Peter Monks Although written far too late to influence most Roman soldiers, "The Military Institutions of the Romans" does offer a clear and interesting insight into the structure, training and employment of the Roman army. The discussion of tactics and what we might call today 'principles of employment' may be a bit of 'tactics for dummies' compared to, say, The Civil War of Caesar (Penguin Classics), and there is little in the way of contemporary examples, but this is still an interesting read in its own right and a useful adjunct to other works on Roman military history.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. but the differences are not very great and the legions themselves evolved slowly through the centuries By Charles Kovacs This is a short but indispensable book for anyone interested in military history. Although the subject matter is the Roman Army's organization and tactics in perhaps the II Century, the book survived the fall of the Roman Empire and was influential through the Middle Ages, and even beyond.Scholars in more recent times have questioned the organizational details of the Roman legions described by the author, but the differences are not very great and the legions themselves evolved slowly through the centuries. Vegetus does however give a clear description of the artillery of each legion, as well as of its bridging train. The size and deployment of each legion's cavalry has also been questioned.This book was written for the ruling Emperor hundreds of years after the legions were broken up into independent battalions and in the wake of a string of military defeats. Its aim was to convince the Emperor of the need to reorganize the Empire's military along the lines of the early Empire, while pointing out the deficiencies of the then current forces (.e.g lack of training, fitness, shortage of good infantry). There are also chapters on tactics and a collection tactical and strategic maxims, some of which survived to out day (.e.g. "vincit pace, para bellum"). This version of Vegetus work is a XIX Century translation; there are probably others. I have not seen the Latin version of this book, but the translation is certainly clear and reads well. I gave it four stars only because it is likely to be of interest only to specialists; on a list for military historians, it would rate five stars and it is required reading.

Great insight into the organization of the ancient Roman legions as well as strategies. Although written well past the fall of the western empire, it remains the best treatise on the subject.

By A Customer The Spirit of Christ by Andrew Murray, even though originally written in the late 1800's, explores all aspects of the Holy Spirit. It helps the reader to discover God's purpose for the Holy Spirit in the believer's life. It is bibically accurate, though many times biblical references are not acknowledged so a familiarity with Scripture is useful when reading The Spirit of Christ. I highly recommend it to any believer of Christ who wants to learn more about the indwelling Spirit.

One star is for the Whitaker House's drastically reduced version of the original book. (Whitaker House's edition has a dove on a white background on the cover.)Bethany House Pub., ISBN10:0871235897 and ISBN 13:978-087123893 is a full copy of the original version. VS:Whitaker House Pub., ISBN 10:0883681269 and ISBN 13:978-0883681268 is very different from the original book by Andrew Murray. It is missing: the 9 page forward, summary points at the end of each chapter, chapters 25 and 28, and 69 pages of very helpful notes at the end of the book. The chapters have not only been renamed, they appear in an entirely different order than when the book was first published. Whitaker House also shortened the text. For example, in Chapter 1 Andrew Murray wrote a prayer of several paragraphs that they reduced to one short paragraph. It could be described as a "Cliff's Notes" stripped down version.I highly recommend the Bethany House edition of The Spirit of Christ. It contains everything that was in the original book by Andrew Murray.

Edenbrooke is my #1 favorite book of all time By Happy Living First off, let me say that I am not a fan of Novellas. 53 pages for $3.99 makes me grouchy. Edenbrooke is my #1 favorite book of all time. I purchased this book before I saw the page count. This book "Heir to Edenbrooke" which is Phillip's point of view of the exact scenes in "Edenbrooke". However it ends at the inn where Phillip and Marianne meet. I thought "Really???" You are ending it here? Why not at the end of Edenbrooke? That is why I am giving it 3 stars. I loved reading what Phillip was thinking and his point of view in meeting Marianne. But am so disappointed at where it ended. I would loved to have known what he thought when he was at the horse races or when he went after Marianne's dad and the fear he felt when he found out that Marianne had been kidnapped. Too much was left out for me to be happy with this purchase. I have a rule that I never purchase books lower then 200 pages and get sucked into the never ending novella's that these authors have started doing to rip off consumers. 53 pages is such a disappointment. I won't purchase another and hope Julianne won't do this to us again.

By Abigail Freeman I really like Edenbrook and Blackmoore by Julianne Donaldson but I feel like Heir to Edenbrooke wasn't worth the $3.99 I spent on it. It didn't give a whole lot of new insight into Phillip that you don't already know for Edenbrooke. It took me less than 15 minutes to read so even for a novella, its really short.

I'm thrilled to say it was worth the wait! I subconsciously smiled the entire time I read it. I just loved it! The only thing wrong with it was it's length! In no time at all I was finished reading it and now will have to content myself with patiently waiting for her next book. She's my FAVORITE author and I can't get enough of what she writes, so I will go back to re-read what she's already given us. I wish she'd write a complete addition to Edenbrooke from Philip's perspective. This AMAZING small glimpse will never be enough, but what she gave us was EXCELLENT AND WORTH THE WAIT!

I think it's cool to learn about things the average person doesn't know.He shows you the ingenuity and tenaciousness of spies determined to outwit the enemy for the good of the world.Mr.Jennings even tells you who was wounded.And what went wrong or what succeeded on these missions.His subject specialty is WW11 so he knows the subject well and you will too after you have read this book.This isn't the first book I've read by Raymond Jennings about WW11 and it definitely won't be the last.You will learn so much from this book.Whether you are a history buff or not,you will enjoy it.And with the chapters separated you won't get confused.I have no reservations about recommending it for you to enjoy. Sadly it doesn't really provide much detail so it's worth is questionable at best. The work is full of grammatical and spelling errors. Pass up this one

What little I knew of the Second World War was little of what I learned at school, and some internet between 1939 and 1945 happened many shocking things for many families and generations that came after , following the scars that I leave the various countries that affect also the world economy , caught my attention , dig a little more about different experiences and events, as in this book by chapter are showing different missions and as implemented, is very interesting and although the final outcome of the war is known, each mission involves an issue of suspense of how it was being carried out if it went right or went wrong , I still have to read, but what I have so far has been very impressive and fascinating.Disclosure: I bought this ebook in a promotion at a discounted price that I got in exchange for giving my unbiased opinion about it in a review

Each one has its own great story as well as wonderful characters. The shifter alpha powers were so interesting. I loved the plot with these characters. Lily and Lucas are very good characters together. Young love lost and then finding each other again as adults was interesting. I love the interaction between Lily and Lucas and their love for each other. Lucas would do anything for Lily and did. This was a tough, exciting and loving story.

"Not all white people were racist, but all white people benefitted from white racism" is a categorical untruth, and plays loose and fast with the definitions of "racism" "white" and "benefitted". Under the apartheid system there were poor whites who were worse off than blacks. Example: The 'poor whites' that lived on the outskirts of the big cities, neither farming, nor gainfully employed in other industries, in little houses where some didn't get shoes and long pants until they graduated from junior high school. By contrast, the black bureaucrats in the so-called TVBC 'bantustans' were actually receiving higher salaries than their white counterparts in South Africa proper.There are much better books to read on South Africa than this garbage. Off the top of my head I recommend "South Africa's War Against Capitalism" by Walter E. Williams.

Forget the fact that thousands of farmers have been tortured and murdered post 1994. All this book reminds me as a white person living in South Africa is that they won't stop until all of us are dead or gone, so that they can consume themselves! Perhaps its time to stand up agains reverse rascism........ Please don't buy this book or waste your money. People like Stuart Theobald that gave a 5 star review is a personal friend of Eusebius.... Nothing like rent a crowd

For the importance I feel this book carries, I think the writer should have thought about the limit he was putting on his readership by the complex way he expressed some of his postulations.
