An Enthralling Reading Experience But By PURPLE JEWELS Claimed by a Vampire was an enthralling and sexually mesmerizing reading experience but the editing and spelling errors were so numerous that even I couldn't help but be distracted and disappointed by them. Thus, I am unable to give this story the 5 star rating that I would have given it otherwise. Usually, I don't deduct points for poor editing but this is the 3rd book in this Series and by now the author should be demonstrating a greater respect for her talent and consideration for her fans and other readers by doing a better job with her editing.Otherwise, I simply loved this story and under amazon's rating system 5 stars mean "I love it." However, for the aforementioned reasons I'm only giving it 4 Stars. This is the 3rd book in the Series and the plot surrounds Dare's adventures in securing his soul mate and what an adventure it is. Tiannia is some where between 20 -22 years old but she is more than a perfect match for this ancient and powerful vampire. Dare is 6'5" of lethal sexuality. In fact, "he is so sexy that he should be illegal" and to top it off he is a dominant as in mild to medium level BSDM. Wow! Just Wow! Yum, yum, I want one. LoL Anyway, I digress. The writing is pretty vivid yet concise. The plot is original and edgy. The story is told from a 3rd person POV so we get to hear what most everyone is thing making it the perfect point of view (POV) for this book. The vampires in Jody's Vampire Guardian Series aren't you typical romantic vamps. They are "walking lollipops" but somewhat chauvinistic, esp. Dare, manipulative, will wipe your memory in a heart beat if they deem it best, are a bit arrogant, aggressive, assertive, lethal killers of evil men/women but can rock your world with just a thought so you can't help but love and want them in any way you can get them. On the other hand, they each would give his life for his soul mate and will do all in their power to love, protect, satisfy and make them happy. Dare is no exception, in fact, he is all of the aforementioned and then some. The story contains romance, action, a bit of drama and suspense, humor, provocative love scenes, adult themes, suggestive language, and just a little mild BSDM. No wonder I want to reread it right now but I wait a bit before doing so. I borrowed the book per my kindle unlimited subscription but I purchased it because for me it's a definite keeper. The character development is good, It was so much fun seeing characters I knew from previous books, i.e. Zak (Yum), Kayla, Jamie, and Aerik . It was like visiting with old friends. There also some totally likeable new characters. The main villains are a tad bit one dimensional but that dimension is so insidious that there's more than enough reason to loath them. Dare and Tiannia have a complex but enticing chemistry. Initially, given her age, I was a bit taken aback by the author's matching her with Dare but... well, you'll see why I worried needlessly. The story moves along at about a medium pace but it's appropriate for the proper unfolding and progression of this love story. I definitely, recommend. There are no cliffhangers in this Series and each book would make a pretty good stand alone read. However, I recommend reading the book in order for maximum satisfaction. I definitely recommend this book and this Series to those who like their vampires a lot more dominate. Yea boy! LOL There's suppose to be a 4th book in the Series, "Living with Vampires" so "oh-my-gawd" "puhleeease" let it currently be available. I'm not ready to leave these characters just yet.

This author has a way with her characters and her word's. These vampires are Guardians, they kill bad people and Dare is the BOSS. And he's really a badness! He finally finds his soul mate that he kept waiting to come back to him after such a long time....with the help of his other guardians thing's can only get better...he has a few bumps along the way but Dare is the leader and a very old vampire so he has to get his way...or does he? Hmmmm you'll just have to read it to find out! I really like all 3 of her books...and definitely recommend them.

Not only do we have the story of the two main characters, but you also get insight into a second couple. You get to see the development of two couples and it was just a wonderful contrast between each of the characters.

I purchased this book due to my great great grandfather being a member of this regiment By LinninVA I purchased this book due to my great great grandfather being a member of this regiment. I wanted to learn more about what my grandfather experienced as a member of the 11th Michigan. The book did not disappoint. Mr. Faust obviously meticulously researched this book using the letters of members of the 11th Michigan to fill in many details as well as regimental records. The book contains many useful maps of the 11th Michigan's theater of operations as well as battle maps. In addition to the maps there are many photographs of the more prominent members of the regiment. I have a new appreciation for the sacrifices made by my ancestor and the other members of this regiment to preserve the union. Thank you to Mr. Faust for bringing the accomplishments of this volunteer regimental unit to light.

The illustrations from the time period the book was written are amazing, and the tips and tricks are just as plausible as the day the book was written. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in performing magic, especially for the historical value.

It seems to have been written, or translated, by someone to whom English is a second, or third, language. The information is good enough, but it is sometimes a challenge to decipher a word here, or sentence there. That can be distracting, and slow the read down.

This is not 20 books, this is 2 1/2 books. Had it been 2 books I would have been more than satisfied with the price but leaving a 3rd book cut in half does not leave me wanting more, it leaves me frustrated with the misleading title/description.

Certainly I didn't think I would one-third of the way through the novel. I was so angry at Kelly Favor that I almost threw the book out. I didn't want to read any more. It was too frustrating. Jake and Raven had barely kissed yet. Where was the erotica I wss promised? In spite of the superior story, I was bored bored bored. I felt so cruelly manipulated by the author!Thank goodness the story finally evolved and they got together. Once the sex started, the plot moved forward and I became enthralled.And what a delight that there was a another (future) couple to get to know. The novel proved to be complex and a rewarding read. Lots of interesting, unique stuff in it related to the characters' careers, and the erotic quotient just kept building! By the end, I truly loved the four main characters, as they finally, slowly overcame their repeated stupid words and actions.This compilation of the entire finished novel into one tome gave me the flow of the story that is so sorely and painfully missing in these serialized novels. It is so much better to read through the novel all at once. I think it is just really critical to the comprehension of the reader.So I recommend this 20 "book" compilation. Just be aware that Hannah Ford's novel is only partially included. You'll have to procure the rest of the novel elsewhere. But it's worth it. What He Wants is a great 5 star piece of writing.

By Jeni Amos I do have to point out that there were a lot of grammatical errors throughout it all which made it kind of annoying regardless of how good the stories are.The first series was awesome! I seriously could not put it down! Lots and lots of ups and downs twists and turns like an insane roller coaster ride!The second series was hot hot hot!!! Only downfall is that ends with a teaser, it's not a full series and now I have to find and read the next set of books to find out what happens.

Limited But Useful Book about Bluegrass in the Carolinas By Ted Lehmann Carolina Bluegrass: A High Lonesome History by Gail Wilson-Giarratano, PhD (The History Press, 2015, 176 pages, $21.99/9.99) is a profusely illustrated overview of the role bluegrass music has played in the Carolinas. Author Gail Wilson-Giarratano has condensed much of the history of bluegrass music into a brief overview and then sought to interview many of those involved in making and writing about the region's music. The book is ambitious in its goals, yet limited in its scope, making it difficult to function as both good history and an effort to capture the role bluegrass plays in the contemporary world of Carolina music. On it's web site, The History Press describes itself as “empowering history and culture enthusiasts to write local stories for local audiences, we create exceptional books that are relevant on a local and personal level, enrich lives, and bring readers closer – to their community, their neighbors, and their past. We are committed to the pursuit of new growth opportunities and to increasing the availability, depth, and breadth of local books. Driven by genuine pride in our work and an infectious enthusiasm for what we do, we are universally dedicated to the success of our authors, employees, and stakeholders.” This title fits well into that description, but as such, seems to lose focus as a useful book for those interested in placing bluegrass into a richer and more comprehensive context. The book is best read by those who contributed to it or are written about in it, but not particularly useful for people actually wishing to learn about bluegrass in a larger world of music.The strongest elements of Carolina Bluegrass are the interviews and profiles of people who are, or recently have been, involved at many levels in the creation and presentation of music in the two states. Some of the people profiled are major contemporary artists and personalities. Wayne Benson and Kristen Scott Benson are effectively profiled as are Cindy and Terry Baucom. Earl Scruggs gets his due, but the Earl Scruggs Center in Shelby, NC, an important center for information about Scruggs and the region doesn't. Wilson-Giarratano is effective in identifying and providing brief profiles of musicians who function in local radio, performing and even recording situations. She spends significant time visiting several of the small, and endangered by internet commerce, music shops, many of which host much loved and long-lived local jams. She also spends time discussing local country radio stations which devote some time to bluegrass, many of which have had their lives extended through streaming internet. In doing this, she provides a real service. Whether people from outside the region will seek out these shops and jams is another question. The focus seems to be on making sure to mention lots of names. The book could function effectively for bluegrass fans seeking to find local music during their travels in the Carolinas.The book focuses on people who have distinguished themselves enough in the Carolinas to become recipients of cultural history awards presented by state legislatures. The winners of the South Carolina Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Award are all mentioned, and many are profiled as are those who have won the North Carolina Heritage Award. These state awards draw attention to local cultural history.Author, Dr. Gail Wilson–Giarratano, (a native of Lancaster, SC) joined City Year Columbia on March 26, 2012. Wonderful job capturing the essence of the music By OldFiddler Gail Wilson-Giarratano did a wonderful job capturing the essence of bluegrass music in the Carolinas. She interviewed and gathered information from professionals in the bluegrass field, presenting their personal anecdotes, stories, and family photos. But she also did what many authors writing books such as this often do not do, which is capture and present the stories of those who do not play the music for a living, but rather play it passionately as a hobby. Bluegrass is a music of the people, and it is presented as such in this book. If you've ever been to a bluegrass or old time music festival and look around, you will see what I mean - people all around you having the times of their lives playing the music for their own entertainment with new friends and old. The author captured this feeling in this book. Quite an entertaining and informational read, loaded with personal stories and quotes. Highly recommended for the reader who may be interested in the bluegrass scene in the Carolinas, including stories on the locals. Hats off to Ms. Wilson-Giarratano!

16 of 18 people found the following review helpful. A Fashion Classic! By happy philosopher I bought Cheap Chic when it first came out and it instantly became my fashion bible. My copy fell apart many years ago from constant consultation but the lessons I learned from it about creating one's own style have stayed with me for over 30 years. The principles that made Donna Karan rich and famous with her "Essentials" line - having a few key pieces that one can mix and match - could have come straight out of that book; that idea was the big take-away for me which I still use to this day to keep my wardrobe pared. It makes it so easy to get dressed in the morning!Two of my favorite photos were the one of Ola Hudson - in her studio, I think - and someone wearing a Spanish shawl wrapped around her hips, standing on a fire escape in NYC and smoking a cigarette. This is also the first place I ever saw Jerry Hall; I remember being amazed by those endless legs!Wish I could get hold of a copy again. Back in the late 70's it sure didn't cost $58! But it appears to have become a collector's item, and deservedly so.

For a very long time I have made a rule for myself to never buy any piece of clothing over $5. Thanks to places like Goodwill, and Salvation Army it's easy to still stay under my original $5 price limit per item! So, when I saw this book, Cheap Chic, Hundreds of Money Saving Hints to Create Your Own Great Look, I snatched it up. :)When I first received the book in the mail, I was quite skeptical. It looks old and outdated. Of course, this is the 40th Anniversary Edition so it IS old! However, the basics still ring true. Your wardrobe need only be minimal, classic pieces that you can mix and match. Find a t-shirt you love? Buy it in many solid colors. Everyone needs a good solid pair or two of jeans. Sneakers are good as well as a blazer and some boots. Also, find what works for YOU and your body shape. Yeah, something may look good on a model, but how does it look on your body? Overall, I thought it was a good book. It didn't give me any earth shattering new info. I know it has amazing reviews but I didn't see amazing. I saw a good, bare bones book about finding cheap, long lasting fashion. I did use some of the tips on my recent trip to Goodwill. I've lost some weight and was looking for some basic pieces I could mix and match."I received this book for free through Blogging for Books. A 1975 Fashion Guide Reprinted for a New Generation to Enjoy By The Artist Librarian As a full time college student with limited funds (thank you, part time job), I aspire to cheap chic: I enjoy fashion and looking stylish, but don't want nor can afford to spend a lot on my clothes. While not completely what I expected, the 40th Anniversary Edition of Cheap Chic is a mixture of both relevant advice and tips along with a fascinating (dare I say historical?) look into some of the fashion ideals of the 1970s. Each chapter covers a type of clothing or topic such as classics, sportswear, work clothes, thrift store shopping, and ethnic wear. Interspersed in between are profiles and interviews with style mavens of the time such as Yves St. Laurent, Betsey Johnson, along with lesser known fashionistas.When I first heard of this 40th Anniversary Edition of Cheap Chic, I was under the impression that this was an updated or revised version of the original, which was first published in 1975. However, other than a new forward written by style guru and fashion designer mentor Tim Gunn from Project Runway, it is basically a reprint. While not what I was expecting, it was my misconception and mistake alone. Regardless, there are some amusing details that date this book, such as the prices mentioned: "Sailor pants ... should run about $6" (pg. 17) --if only new pants were that inexpensive today! Another historical aspect are the style interviews --it's interesting to see how the people the authors' chose to profile thought about popular 1970s styles. Fran Liebowitz confesses, "I can't believe what some people wear ... incredible platform shoes, glitter, hideous fabrics ... useless extravagance" (pg. 77).Despite my initial disappointment, Cheap Chic has quite a few relevant ideas and advice that make this style book worth a read, in my opinion. The idea cost-per-wear, in which you invest in a better quality, well made piece if you will wear it multiple times more than a cheaper option, is one that I've seen other stylists use or suggest today. For myself, one of the most interesting portions of the book was a section on wrapping fabric into skirts, tops, sarongs, and other clothing items. That chapter in particular definitely had a 1970s, laid back, hippies, boho chic, carefree sort of attitude.Though certain sections such as "The Chic Shopper's Guide" ---a directory of stores near the end of the book-- are most likely obsolete and irrelevant today, there are enough gems such as a chart of how to care or clean different fabric types and other concepts and advice that make this mid-20th century style guide worth a read or a check-out from your local library.Brief content note: This was published in the 1970s and reflecting that era, there are a couple of photos of topless women such as those that illustrate some of the fabric wrapping techniques.[Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through bloggingforbooks.org for review purposes.]

Eileen came into her own as a strong woman without being a B and Marcus slowly, but appropriately, formed connections showing his true character - a decent man.Hot hot HOT smexy times! I rated this book five stars but if it was possible I would rate it a trillion stars. That's just how much I enjoyed reading this book. I have always enjoyed reading Georgette St. Clair books, the flow is always good the pace is just right not too fast not too slow. Ms St. Clair is so creative and it shows in all of her books. They are captivating, suspenseful, and sizzling hot. I have fell in love with every series she has ever wrote. Her storylines are always full of awesome characters and scorching hot scenes, and as usual in her series are amazing, powerful, exhilarating and full of surprises.This storyline is about Marcus a huge, buffed, drop your panties gorgeous, gentle but no one gives him credit, not even hisself wolf shifter and Eliene a curvaceous, sassy, unsure of herself, can't boil water beautiful wolf shifter.The story is awesome, impressive and engaging. This is a spectacular storyline, the scenes are intense, vivid and fabulous. There is lots of humor, danger, pent-up rage, life threatening moments, suspense, lots of camaraderie and heart pounding romance. Poor Marcus just wants to be alone even though he thinks he is going Feral. Eileen just wants to be needed and cherish by someone. She would do any to close the deal, but as a world of secrets merge into nightmares and danger that threaten their lives and the pack.I truly enjoyed reading this fast paced well written series and I'm excited about reading more by this truly gifted author. Only thing was that there were times at the beginning and middle it moved a little too slow for me. Typically in her books its just full of stuff happening. This pace was a smidge slower.I have to say I felt really bad for both characters. Sympathetic to what happened to Marcus previously and also Eileen because the way she was raised. She had EVERYTHING done for her. Never picked out her own clothes. She was definitely privileged and she yearned for more. I LOVED her little tantrums. Mostly it was her being upset at failing not really at anyone. I honestly ADORED the one she threw on purpose! HAHA. She had no self-esteem really. She in reality felt like a loser who couldn't do anything right or for herself. She felt worthless a lot of the time. Marcus wasn't exactly nice to her at first. Even if she was saving his furry butt! He pretty much ignored her presence. He was an ass. Although, he felt bad and hated when she got upset with him. Under all that he's a good guy just a little messed up. His attitude and the way he behaved...there was a reason for it. He was so afraid he'd hurt her. Thats what made him likable to me. He was sweet in his own way. OMG Chelsea! I laughed my butt off when she called Eileen and told her Verity was on her way up. Her and Marcus had sex thinking she was coming to check on them thinking their mating was fake. Well it actually was at first. Anyways, it was priceless when Eileen found out Chelsea lied about that! Made me giggle! Damian...didnt see that coming! Will Zeke be next in the series? Enjoyable read!

Reads fine as a "romance"; falls flat as "urban fantasy" By missusjonz In a perfect world, there would be a clear divide--a mile wide one, at that--between "urban fantasy" and "paranormal romance". Unfortunately, an awful lot of books from the two genres receive both tags, which muddies things terribly for readers who are shopping for one but really don't like the other.For romance readers, this is a perfectly passable example of the genre: hot, mysterious men and beautiful, troubled women; pages and pages of sex; and, oh yeah, shape-shifters. And some magical stuff that happens, mostly so that the main characters can have sex some more.As an urban fantasy, this book falls short. The characters are stereotypes rather than living, breathing people, as if the author broke out the old standard cookie cutters for the hero, the buddy, the damsel, and the villain. The only real dynamic character--the only character who learns & evolves as a result of the happenings in the plot--is a relatively minor one. The dialogue has some clever moments, but even then it seems to be a case of clever-for-the-sake-of-cleverness rather than contributing to character-building or plot development.The plot, after a promising beginning, pretty quickly becomes predictable. . . and secondary to the aim of getting the two lead characters into bed. The author's world/culture building is minimal, relying instead on overused stereotypes of what a werewolf society is about. The only truly original concept Rogers brings to the table is the existence of "Seers" (misnamed, since they are apparently just shape-shifter magic users & not particularly gifted with "Sight" or any such other power); and, again, the Seer characters are either so one-dimensional (the evil villain, insert wicked laugh here) or so underdeveloped (a visiting character who makes little more than a cameo appearance) that the concept does little to distinguish Rogers' book from all the other paranormal romances out there.Don't get me wrong, reading this wasn't a complete waste of my time, or I'd not have read it through to the predictable ending. It was an okay little piece of brain candy. I just wish other readers would not equate this and other romance novels with urban fantasy just because there's werewolves & magic & stuff.

For some reason I went into reading this one expecting a plot heavy on the romance and was pleasantly surprised to find that this book is just as heavy on the action, plot, and character building. I love it when an author surprises me.The story is about Mackenzie who is on the run from some crazy shifters looking to use her for her body. While on the run she falls into a web of really cool people who convince her the supernatural is real and give her an unexpected support system. Jackson Holt takes a liking to her immediately and will do whatever he needs to keep her safe.The story arc is reminiscent of a paranormal romance.... girl is in trouble, our hero must use his super powers and super friends to save her. But, in this story our heroine isn't weak or waiting around to be saved and our hero doesn't expect her to sit back in a safe corner and wait it out. I found the characters to be honest. The dialogue between them was easy and free flowing. The relationship was realistic, a nice mix of playful flirting with sincerity. Jackson is funny and sexy, protective without being overbearing.The plot of Crux builds quickly. The book is action packed and I had a hard time finding stopping points so I could get some much needed sleep! There is an atypical twist in the plot three quarters of the way through. After it I thought for sure we were getting an ending and the "Big Bad" would continue to haunt us in the next book, but instead the story keeps going! Because of this small twist in plot sequence, the story loses a bit of momentum and I felt the true ending was smidge anti-climatic. Not overly so, and definitely not enough for me to dislike it.In Crux Moira Rogers has built a strong supernatural world with an exciting plot and realistic characters. With as much as I enjoyed the interactions between Mackenzie and Jackson, I am looking forward to the next books in the series! There were so many intriguing side characters introduced in this group of friends... only more good stories can come after this!

Aleo Moira Rogers' Crux was one of those books I picked up on a whim: offered for free, first in a series, urban fantasy/romance, which is a genre I liked. I didn't have a lot invested in it, and while it was a decent read, it didn't reach my all-time favorites list.Mackenzie Brooks is on the run from a crazy ex-boyfriend who told her she was destined to bear his child, which would save a race. She ends up in New Orleans working at a bar, where the owner is friends with Jackson Holt, a PI with paranormal leanings: He's a spellcaster. Mackenzie has to come to the realization that magic is real (and the paranormal is all around her) when Jackson looks into her past and finds out her ex-boyfriend knew more about her past than she did.I said Crux was a decent read, and by that, I mean the romance was fairly believable, and the action kept moving. There are some cute nods to previous paranormal and urban fantasy lore, and the cast of characters is varied.The reason it makes my "meh" list is that it felt a lot like reading a fanfic. Mackenzie is a total Mary Sue: unaware of her extra-special past, capable of amazing things, everyone thinks she's incredible but she's totally clueless, etc. The trope of binding someone with amazing and unique special powers is getting overused (at least three books I've read in the past year in the PNR/UF genres) and Mackenzie's stumbling entry to the world of magic is complete Mary Sue. A strong heroine she's not, and that's disappointing. I prefer a book where the princess saves herself and slays the dragon rather than needing a man (or men) to show her the way to her "inner strength."This review appeared previously on Goodreads.
