By Lesley - HSR So heres the review for the second instalment in Claire Donovan's Xciting Arrangements Series which i received an ARC in turn for my honest review.If you haven't already read my review for book 1 follow this link...Review for Pimp 1 by Claire DonovanI do also recommend reading the books in order as it is a series that needs to be read chronologically if your to truly understand it :)so if you guys have read the first book you'll probably have been left with a deep deep pit in your heart and soul right?....no? just me then :PThe first book left me NEEDING more that little green door hunted my dreams the night i finished reading it and the next couple of nights until i picked up the second book.The second book wasn't entirely as i was expecting it to be... hell i think this entire series is shaping up to completely and utterly smash my expectations and more importantly reflect on myself.When i first began this series i thought ok so this is gonna be another one of those stories where good girl gets a taste of the dirty, hot & heavy with the added debatable topic of Step-brother « Step-sister relations....WRONG WRONG WRONG! The first novel brought the feeling of familiarity between myself and Alyssa to an unescapable sight but now the second book has taken that way way further ... reading about Mace's & Alyssa's relationship reminds me of myself in nearly every relationship i've ever had ... and its so scary how much of myself i see inside Alyssa.Saying that brings me back round to the point of my first expectations for the Pimp stories... Mace just wants to scare her off while Alyssa wants him to face his feelings for her. When she gets a message from her father’s lawyer regarding the auction of the lake house, Alyssa wants Mace to go with her to the auction and maybe buy it. Mace wants nothing to do with the place but she talks him into going. The road trip is fun and a little exciting as each of them gets turned on with the road trip games they play. After spending the night at a nearby motel, they head to the lake house the next morning where the auction is being held. After Mace shocks everyone with a large bid, he wins the auction and the house now belongs to them. And now they will spend the night together in the lake house without lights, heat or running water. After a dip in the freezing lake, they end up snuggled together to stay warm. Can Mace keep his promise to Morgan and not take her? Will Alyssa push him to take her? Will they both give in? After talking for a while and she learns some bad things about her father, she falls into a deep sleep. Only to be woken the next morning to Mace ready to get back on the road because her own auction has been set and they need to get back home. Is Alyssa really hearing what he is saying? By Ebrahim Sodha From the land of the Pashtuns to the land of MaaIt most certainly is a privilege to review “From the land of the Pashtuns to the land of Maa”, this riveting book is a rollercoaster in many senses, it takes us through the historic facts when influx of many Indians during the turn of a new century sought to start a new life in East Africa and in how people seasonally crossed the Indian Ocean in Dhows to get to the land of Zeng, the East African Coast. A true epic in terms of parallel life, for those who have come from a similar back ground. It truly is a magnificent story set in remote Maasailand in Ngoengore a small trading centre where by Mr Muzzafar Khan's father, the late Mr Juma Khan made his home after internal family feud back home, and thus had come with nothing, it takes us through so many different accounts of the colonial era in Kenya, including the Mau Mau period which took place in the midst and heartland of white colonial farmers where he was located. Little did he know; that in the near future his own son in Mr Muzzafar Khan will be rubbing shoulders with the upcoming future leaders of Kenya through his 29 years of services with KGGCU. Enjoyed it immensely and certainly recommend it.

Well this, I HAD to. I don't want anyone else to be suckered into reading this book, if you can even call it that.The main character, Leighton, ugh, please if I never have to read a book with suck a snotty spoiled self entitled slutty character again, I would be one happy person. All she did was have sex, get drunk, do drugs, allow her on-again / off-again boyfriend to cheat on her, COMPLAIN, take him back, have sex again for the attention, then whine that no one takes her seriously. The main male character was actually very well written. I like him, felt sorry for him, in a way. But please, who has a "mindless f***" and falls in love because of some connection. A connection that was NEVER truly described, so I was a bit confused.I FORCED myself to complete this crap, as I had held a slight hope that perhaps the story line would eventually turn around and I would start to enjoy it, but no, 50% left to make that change turned into 18% left, and I realized then, I had wasted an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back. I won't lie, I had to skim over a few parts, that seemed to have been dragged out, purely to keep the word count up.The "book" really isn't even long enough to really be called a book, more like an annoying cliff hanger novella. To be honest, it's not even worth reading the others in this 'series' for FREE on KU. I'm glad I did t waste my money on this embarrassment.All these 4 or more star ratings are very hard for me to understand. People that rated that high must've never read a decent NOVEL in their life and got excited and the limited lackluster sex scenes. Ugh. I'm just beyond irritated now, I most definitely will NOT be reading at thing written by this author, and I use the term 'author' lightly.

I loved the characters and the way they flowed and how these hero's who survived our country felt that they needed to serve more and prove more. As men that were hurt or discarded for any reason they are and will always be hero's . As in this book these two characters served brother and lover . Leighton rich party girl now she just trying to hold on to anything that gets her attention but now she has his attention how will they be to gather can't wait to see. Thank you for letting me review this book for honest review .can't wait to read more.

Haze is a special forces Sargeant on leave when he first meets the spoiled rich girl Leighton. She needed saving and her jerk of a boyfriend was no where to be found. Years later, fate brings them together after Haze saves her brother during an attack overseas. Haze has serious injuries which take him away his job and his life as he knew it.""He came out of nowhere like a tank...The guerrilla who shot me, guy took him out with one shot. Lifted me like a duffel bag. I blacked out...The report says he save me from the explosion that killed two more men in my unit."Leighton has put up with her cheating spoiled rich kid boyfriend for years now and when Haze appears back in her life, she is not sure what to make of it. She is too busy getting drunk and high and spending her inheritance to think too much about him.""The drummer was now weilding his stool like a club and chasing the front man back and forth across the stage. All of that, I assmed was real. I was pretty sure the koala bear riding on the drummer's back, however, was just the drugs.""The problem was, all I could think about was him, us, our bodies fitted tight together, my hollow thoughts filled by those dark brown eyes..""Hell, it was in writing, in Haze's ...job description to save me from my own irrational and unsafe thinking.""She needed a purpose, a goal, but it wasn't up to me to help her find those things. It was up to me to make sure she was safe. That was it."I just love the characters in this book, Leighton's cheating boyfriend and Paris are made for eachother, Haze tries to keep his feelings in check while Leighton does everything to make him crack. Grandfather is a wise man with a heart of gold when it comes to his grandkids.Can't wait for the next chapter is this story, once you start this one make sure you have the time to finish it. You won't want to put it down!This book was gifted by the author for an honest review.

Some minor errors of fact in it - but they don't affect the important and true message that the writer conveys with reason and passion. The best part is the last chapter - an open letter to another excellent writer, Joseph Epstein. I strongly recommend this short book.

By Dugan I gave it 4 stars because I'm a little upset about how some things played out...well DIDN'T play out. *SPOILER ALERT* Rachel learned to speak fluent Italian and this never comes up? She doesn't impress Pearce with her new verbal skills? Really? I know that's small, but come on, that was one good thing that came of her previous life, so let me cling to something! And then the fact that they NEVER discuss that Pearce's father had her parents killed. I mean what the crap?! That should have been brought up!It's 2:54am and I just finished reading this after being very upset by Book 3. Having not read the Jade series I didn't know what to expect. This book was less depressing than 3 and obviously I stayed up all night to finish, so I enjoyed it.

Even though I loved the Kensington books from the beginning, there was always a black cloud over it with Rachel's death being imminent. I hope that Lilly will get a book one day and possibly Abigail and Hannah in the future. Allie created two perfect series and combined them into one beautiful ending.If you have not read the Jade series, you are really missing out. I was thinking that I wished I had read the Kensingtons first but I am actually glad I read them in the order they came out. You have to experience the pain and heartbreak in order to savor this last story.

I am soooo glad they are together. I honestly thought Rachel would just be secretly watching over them. After reading a couple chapters i thought Rachel would show up after Garret and Jade had Miles and Ethan but i was all wrong! This was well written and kept me on my toes all night. I tried so hard not to finish it so fast, I tried to wait till my birthday to read it (Which is November 4th) but I couldn't help it. Allie Everhart is a wonderful writer hands down my favorite author. Her books are always amazing. Can't wait to see what else she has in store for us next.

What's wrong with Romanticism By Karl Janssen So Runs the World, a collection of odds and ends from Polish Nobel Prize winner Henryk Sienkiewicz, was first published in English translation in 1898. It contains four short works--an essay of literary criticism, a one-act play, a short story, and a five-act play. The book opens with an introduction by translator S. C. de Soissons that's heaping with praise. De Soissons singles out Sienkiewicz's Christianity as one of his work's most positive qualities. For the most part, the introduction is nearly unintelligible, as if written by someone for whom English is a second language. That's a problem that plagues the entire book. The translations could be described as at best antiquated and at worst clumsy.The main reason I wanted to read this collection is for Sienkiewicz's essay on French novelist Emile Zola, simply entitled "Zola". I'm a big fan of both authors, but Sienkiewicz does not share my enthusiasm for Zola. The essay is vehemently negative. Sienkiewicz attacks Zola's lack of godliness and his concentration on the dirty, immoral side of life. He also criticizes Zola's Rougon-Macquart cycle of novels, asserting that the theories of heredity that Zola employs in the series simply defy logic. While there may be some validity to that point, and that portion of the essay is well-argued, for the most part Sienkiewicz comes across as a prudish and intolerant enemy of any realist work that doesn't strive to depict the ideal. He admits that Germinal and The Debacle are good books, but considers La Terre to be filth, presumably because it discusses manure, vomit, and farts (although Sienkiewicz only mentions the first of the three). Personally, I think there's room for both Naturalism and Romanticism in the literary pantheon, and both writers were excellent novelists within their own stylistic spheres."Whose Fault?" is a one-act play about two former lovers who reunite after two years apart. They have both gone on with their lives, but still have unresolved issues between them. It's a mediocre scene that seems disembodied and pointless, as if arbitrarily plucked from a larger work. "The Verdict" is a short story in which Apollo and Hermes bet on whether the former can seduce an Athenian baker's wife. As the story goes on, it seems to be building into a joke or a fable, but the punchline/moral is so lame and disappointing it doesn't succeed as either.The last and longest piece in the book is its best, though that's faint praise indeed. Win or Lose is a play of substantial length that is pretty entertaining throughout. It's about a Polish princess who has recently become engaged, yet there's still three other suitors vying for her hand. Two favorites soon rise to the top, but it's difficult to tell which of them Sienkiewicz favors until the very end. Matters are made more interesting by a parliamentary election in which two of the men are candidates. One is a wealthy son of blue-blooded nobility, while the other is an uppity member of the lower classes who has elevated his station in life through hard work and determination. The play has promise, and makes some good points in its fifth act, but it's ruined by an abrupt and underwhelming ending.Sienkiewicz is a great novelist whose epics, like those of Victor Hugo, epitomize the power and glory of Romanticism. Yet, as is all too evident here, Romanticism also has its downside. There's a pretentiousness and an irrelevance to these short works that doesn't reflect well on their author. Even the title of the book, which bears no relation to its contents, is unnecessarily pompous. If Zola were to employ such a title, at least we could take comfort in knowing he was being sarcastic.

It looked like the 4th of July here tonight. The French civilians are shooting up flares and rockets of all colors. The soldiers are not celebrating very much though. The order to “Cease Firing” has come. I just can't help but thinking of our buddies who were left behind on the battlefields and never will hear the order.

About the Author Verdi Gilbertson served in the 100th Division of the United States Army as a combat infantryman in 1944 and 1945. His division was in active combat for over 180 days from October to May. In this book are about 60 letters that he wrote home to his family from the front lines in France and Germany. He also included many stories telling about his time in combat. Verdi enjoys building model airplanes, wood carving, book writing and telling stories to his four children, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is the author of two more books, Verdi and Gilbertson: An American Family Adventure. Verdi was born on his family farm in 1923 and now lives in Montevideo, Minnesota.

I am looking forward to reading this; it will be some additional insight into what the guys were doing. They are all my heroes. I am glad the letters got saved.

As part of the outline, about 50% is dedicated to a brief synopsis of Old Testament history, told from the perspective of a 19th Century American Protestant.I ordered this Kindle edition hoping to find a history to compliment my other readings. I was disappointed to find how limited it is. However, it brings to mind a college professor who made us write brief "history of all mankind" as our first assignment. Throughout the semester he kept asking us to edit our history, each time cutting it in half. By the end of the class, we were down to about two double-spaced pages. The final product was the best - which was the point of the assignment.The short history in this "studies" is concise and informative. It took little time to read, but I enjoyed every bit of it. The reader does need to consider the beliefs of the author and make certain allowances. For example, he considers the history of the Jews to be the preparation of a race for a devine purpose - 19th Century Protestantism.I can also see that, were the reader's purpose to study the Old Testament, the process the author offers would be excellent. He even goes so far as to provide the instructor with blackboard instructions!

Concise is the right description - exactly what I was looking for By WetHam Very easy read, though maybe a bit too focused on ancient literature than I anticipated. Compared to a number of the volumes I have purchased about Irish history, this one causes the least brain strain.

Interesting reading about all of the detailed items and personalities involved in Irish history over the centuries. It was a reminder to me that the norsemen, or what we also call the Vikings, raided and invaded Ireland before the year 1000. The entanglements with the English are what is more frequently thought of these days. Well done history.If you are interested in Irish history, then you may be interested in this book.
