Bear-shifter Andy Hawes is great at fixing anything with an engine. As the resident mechanic in Bear Bluffs, he runs a tidy business that he takes pride in. The one thing he can't seem to fix, however, is his love life. After being burned in his past by supposed 'loved ones', Andy is convinced he was meant to be alone. That is, until a battered old truck pulls up in front of his shop... Robyn Mills has fallen a long, long way. Once considered one of the best demolition derby drivers in the country, she now competes for scraps with a travelling fair. Her drive and her focus, once the things that propelled her to the top, are now working against her as they distract her from what really matters. After so long out of the dating game, neither are sure how to proceed amidst the rising tension between them. Can Andy learn how to open his life up to another, before someone else swoops in to steal away his mate? Will Robyn be able to see the bigger picture in time, and concentrate on the man who wants to spend his life by her side? After all, the fair is only in town for a few days... This is a STANDALONE novella with NO CLIFFHANGER and a Happy Ending.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. don't let it end :) By TRUELYMISBEHAVIN This can't be the end!!!sweet, socially awkward bear meets equally socially awkward she bear.they have a common interest, vehicles. she, demolition racing and he, mechanic/tow truck/junkyard. he's settled, she, a rolling stone.when the mating calls, will they recognize it?they both make mistakes, not wanting to impose on what the other "thinks" they want.throw in a blustery human male and it all gets confusing for them.lots of side facts that could have been expanded, but didn't take away from the overall story. I think there could be several "back story" books to elaborate on those facts :) ( hint hint)this book was an enjoyable short, not too short!, read. romance, awkwardness :), and finally decisiveness! love that they just meshed together even with the awkwardness! sweet!thank you so much for this ARC book!very enjoyable read!!

They meet when Charlie Digger, owner of the traveling show, asks for directions. Charlie is a jerk. Robyn needs to work on her car but doesn't have the proper tools. Andy offers the use of his tools and anything out of the junkyard across the street she might need. Andy like Robyn but it's been a long time since he's dated anyone and he is totally out of practice. Things heat up pretty quick but there are roadblocks and Charlie tends to cause problems at times. I enjoyed the story and it does end HEA. I received a free copy in exchange of an honest review.

I have read several books by Amelia Jade and Terra Wolf and have never been dissappointed. But it will have to say this one is my favorite. I have read all of the “Bluff Bear Series.” I sincerely hope that there are more stories coming.I was hooked from the start. Both Authors have written an exquisite story-line. I felt like I was on a gentle roll of the sea as the flow of the book rocked back and forth as it continued to swell and build. It was exilerating. I waas unable to put the book down.As I said I really loved the “Bluff Bear Series” and was so happy to see how Jet and the other characters from previous books interplayed throughout the book.I really enjoyed the way Andy didn't take any of Charies rude B.S. And how he couldn't take his eyes off of Robyn. I really enjoyed how the Authors slowely went about buildingthe romance between Andy & Robyn. It went back and forth as they both had had a past with impossible loss to them and the both basically shut down to relationships. I was amazed at how comfort, trust and love was interwoven back and forth between them. There were so many things set against them, yet they became overcomers in each situation. They even manages to overcome the 99% chance of never having cubs, but here they are at the end of the book with that 1% miracle.I just loved this book and the way Amelia Jade and Terra Wolf brought it all together. They did a terrific job. Get yourself in gear and pick up a copy so you can get in the know of the smash car derby. You'll love it.I was given a copy for an honest review.

What were the events leading up to and the results of the elections to the Gujarat State Assembly in 2002? Both lost in the haze of time but still selectively recounted by partisans, this book seeks to provide the political and societal context as well as the minutiae of events and people that led to the election of Narendra Modi as Chief Minister of Gujarat. Despite Modi’s meteoric rise after the 2002 elections, the events in Gujarat leading up to the elections still cast a long shadow on his political legacy, and color the tales of the man and his mission. This inquiry recounts and analyzes that crucial period in Gujarat’s history and explains how Gujarat was a crucible for understanding and testing the sustainability of democratic traditions in the context of a multicultural society buffeted by global events. More importantly it tells the story of the rise of Narendra Modi as a national and an international figure. "If there is one book that has to be studied to understand the causes, nature and dynamics of the Gujarat riots of 2002, if there is one book that has to be studied to understand the manipulations, distortions and propaganda which took place and which takes place even today against Modi, if there is one book that has to be studied to understand how the so-called secularism in India has through some dark alchemy transformed itself into an anti-humanist ideology not dissimilar from the anti-Semitic propaganda that took place in pre-holocaust Christendom, then it is this book" -- Aravindan Neelakandan, co-author of "Breaking India". "Political developments are punctuated by sensational events, like the Godhra arson attack against Hindu pilgrims in 2002 or Narendra Modi's accession to power in 2014. The grey lines between them are rarely documented, but here, Prof. Ramesh Rao has painstakingly connected these dots. The national breakthrough of 2014 was prepared at the state level by a careful interplay between the enterprising Gujarati people and the dynamic policies pioneered by their Chief Minister. A focus on the state elections confirming him in power in spite of the unique hate campaign against him, reveals the gamechanging processes that underlie political revolutions. It is a lesson from which all stakeholders in politics can learn, including the present-day front men of Modi's own party." -- Dr. Koenraad Elst, author of "Decolonizing the Hindu Mind".

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A thought-provoking book that will look good on a journalism student's table By ALLADI JAYASRI There are scores of books that analyze the post Godhra and 2002 Gujarat riots, and volumes written psychoanalyzing the man at the center of it, narendra Modi. Not many however, turn the gaze on those who deal with the what, who, when and how of Gujarat and Modi, and ask why they are judgmental and often resort to distortion. For such distortion leads to incomplete learning, and un-informed telling of stories. The Election That Shaped Gujarat And Narendra Modi's Rise To Stardom, is the exception, as the authors Ramesh N Rao and Vishal Sharma, say the intent behind the book is to provide a historical and political context to the life and politics of Modi, and to the understanding of the political dynamics that led to his victory in Gujarat elections of 2002, and how he came to become India's Prime Minister. This book meanders into the grey areas of the Godhra train killings, the riots that rocked Gujarat in its aftermath, and connects the dots dispassionately. As a journalist, I think it is important to go into a story without preconceived notions, or become the headline in search of a story. This book sumptuously demonstrates the consequences of straying from that path. A thought-provoking book that will look good on a journalism student's table, and an interesting one for those wish to look at another side of the story.

There are many U.S. cities that can lay claim to being the most all-American city, but indisputably Rock Island is the nation's most all-American town. From its rough and tumble beginnings during the first half of the 19th century when it was the jumping off point into unexplored Indian territory until vigilante businessmen cleaned out the cabal of gangsters and crooked cops that ran the Town during the Roaring Twenties, Rock Island was a rowdy, fun-loving river town that boasted a number historical firsts: the site of the westernmost battle during the Revolutionary War; the home of the Indians who fought the last battles east of the Mississippi; the first railroad bridge to span the mighty river; the site of the “Andersonville of the North” during the Civil War; America’s 19th century timber capital and crossroads of the nation; the site of the first NFL game; the home to Prohibition’s most ruthless gangsters west of Chicago; and the home to what evangelist Billy Sunday described as “some of the finest people in the country — and one or two of the meanest.” When Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet left St. Ignace in the summer of 1673 and canoed across Lake Michigan, and down the Wisconsin River in search of a water route to the China Sea, they were the first white men to see the stunning Upper Mississippi River Valley. After floating 150 miles down the “Father of Waters,” the explorers passed through a treacherous 14-mile chain of rapids lined with villages of peaceful Indians. They didn’t find a passage to the sea or the rumored gold mines that the natives were said to possess, but their glowing descriptions of lush forests teeming with wild game opened the western frontier to a rugged group of men who traded tools and whiskey to the Indians for valuable animal furs. It would be 130 years after Marquette and Jolliet’s exploration until President Thomas Jefferson sent Lt. Zebulon Pike up the Mississippi from Fort St. Louis to locate a strategic site to build a fort that plans were made for a permanent settlement north of the Missouri River. Lt. Pike selected a 3-mile-long island near the foot of the 14-mile rapids where Indians built their largest villages on a peninsula created by a large river that flowed into the Mississippi. The U.S. Army named the island “Rock Island.” Thus began the most dynamic 150 years of history of any U.S. town. Rock Island: The Town is the colorful history from the beginning of the 17th century to the mid-20th century of the development and evolution of America's most representative town.

The masterwork of a brilliant career, and an important document of the crisis now facing mankind. Today we find ourselves in the midst of the greatest crisis in the history of the human race. Technology has placed in our hands almost unlimited power at the very moment when we have run up against the limits of our resources aboard Spaceship Earth, as the crises of the late twentieth century—political, economic, environmental, and ethical—determine whether or not humanity survives. In this masterful summing up of an entire lifetime’s thought and concern, R. Buckminster Fuller addresses these crucial issues in his most significant, accessible, and urgent work. Critical Path traces the origins and evolution of humanity’s social, political, and economic systems from the obscure mists of prehistory, through the development of the great political empires, to the vast international corporate and political systems that control our destiny today to show how we got to our present situation and what options are available to man. With his customary brilliance, extraordinary energy, and unlimited devotion, Bucky Fuller shows how mankind can survive, and how each individual can respond to the unprecedented threat we face today. The crowning achievement of an extraordinary career, Critical Path offers the reader the excitement of understanding the essential dilemmas of our time and how responsible citizens can rise to meet this ultimate challenge to our future.

It's more comprehensive than the Operator's Manual for the Spaceship Earth and less dense than Synergetics. A good middle place to get a view of his scope of thinking.

As this comprehensive and multidisciplinary book makes clear, virtuality has a pedigree that pre-dates the computer age and modern virtual worlds, a pedigree that can be traced back to classical mythology and beyond. Equally, the concept of virtuality is not the province of one field of study alone but is the foundation and driving force of many, both theoretical and applied. Our conceptualizations and applications of virtuality are multiple, as contributors demonstrate across the nine sections of the book that move from philosophy to technologies and applications before returning to philosophy again for a discussion of the utopias and dystopias of virtuality. The almost 50 essays contained within range freely across subjects that include the potential of virtuality, ethics, virtuality and self, presence and immersion, virtual emotions, image, sound and literature, computer games, AI and A-Life, Augmented Reality and Real Virtuality, law and economics, medical and military applications, religion, and cybersex. Throughout, contributors discuss differences between virtuality, reality, and actuality, in debates filtered through the lenses of the disciplines represented here, and speculate on future directions. It is not at all clear that there are differences and, if such distinctions are to be found, the boundaries between virtuality, reality, and actuality continually shift as ideas, modes of organization, and behaviors constantly flow from one to the other regardless of direction. The Handbook presents no unified definition of virtuality to comfort the reader, rather a multiplicity of questions and approaches underpinned by provocative statements that should further fuel the debates surrounding our notions of virtuality.

With 44 chapters written by over 50 of the top authors in the field, I definitely consider this a fantastic resource on immersion, presence, and virtual worlds thinking. Now I wish I had the Kindle version as well, because with 700+ pages, it is definitely time-consuming to go back through when I try to relocate one of the numerous excellent points made by the various authors. Kindle searches make everything a snap. Fortunately this huge hardcover volume looks impressive on my bookshelf, which is somewhat of a compensation for my lost search time. Regardless of which version you buy, you will treasure this book.

OATMAN GIRLS....A TALE OF TRAGEDY By A Customer The book is very well written and the details make the reader feel as if he/she is present at each narration. The trauma and ordeals that Olive and Mary Ann are put through are enough to bring tears to anyone's eyes. The moral in the entire narration seems to be to appreciate what you have. Not everyone is fortunate enough to lead a "normal" life.

A non-hollywood view of the "noble" savage By A Customer Tragic story of a pioneer teenage girl who survives a family massacre only to be held capitive for many years by heartless, blood-thirtsy So West Indians. If one takes this poor girl's experiences to heart, they will never consider Indians the "innocent victims of the white man" again. The unexpected & unique benefit of this book is finding the site where the massacre occurred, an adventure in itself.

The family of nine were attacked by Apaches. All were killed, except a boy and his two sisters. The sisters were enslaved by the Apaches and later sold to the Mohaves. I couldn't set this book down! There are a rather large number of typographical errors-- sad. Yet the story compelled me to read on without slowing down. Someone ought to clean up the typos before selling it on Kindle. Great account of the Arizona territory and well worth reading!

Brian Duffy has been poking fun at the Iowa caucuses for just about as long as they’ve been a media circus, since the 1970s. Now, the longtime editorial cartoonist has gathered a selection of his best images lampooning the politicians on their quadrennial stampedes through Iowa’s fields and towns. Whether you’re anticipating or dreading the onset of another caucus season in 2016, this book will put it all into perspective. From Jimmy Carter’s innovative 1976 effort to Barack Obama’s come-from-behind win in 2008, from George H. W. Bush’s storming to victory in 1980 to George W. Bush’s coasting to his win in 2000, from Gary Hart’s peccadillos in 1988 to John Edwards’s missteps in 2008, from Elizabeth Dole’s determination to breach the White House boys’ club in 2000 to Hillary Clinton’s fall from frontrunner to third place in 2008, here is American presidential campaigning in all its glory. With pigs.

Essays (Inti Classics Annotated): by Michel de Montaigne, by Michel de Montaigne

From the Back Cover Taken together, this selection of essays forms an exquisitely drawn portrait that depicts the strength and warmth of Montaigne's personality. And, as J.M. Cohen observes in his introduction, 'One sees, as one reads him, how broad his mind was, and how many of the ideas of the next two centuries he grasped by anticipation.'

About the Author Michel Eyquem, Seigneur de Montaigne, was born in 1533, the son and heir of Pierre, Seigneur de Montaigne (two previous children dying soon after birth). He was brought up to speak Latin as his mother tongue and always retained a Latin turn of mind; though he knew Greek, he preferred to use translations. After studying law he eventually became counselor to the Parlement of Bordeaux. He married in 1565. In 1569 he published his French version of the Natural Theology of Raymond Sebond; his Apology is only partly a defense of Sebond and sets skeptical limits to human reasoning about God, man and nature. He retired in 1571 to his lands at Montaigne, devoting himself to reading and reflection and to composing his Essays (first version, 1580). He loathed the fanaticism and cruelties of the religious wars of the period, but sided with Catholic orthodoxy and legitimate monarchy. He was twice elected Mayor of Bordeaux (1581 and 1583), a post he held for four years. He died at Montaigne (1592) while preparing the final, and richest, edition of his Essays.

A Superior Translation of a Great Writer By Diego Banducci Over the years I have kept a copy of the Essays by my favorite reading chair to be enjoyed at random, particularly in the middle of the night when Entropy seems to hold the upper hand. They exercise a remarkable calming effect.Seduced by the idea of having a complete set of all the Essays, I initially opted for the Screech translation, but found it wooden and pedantic. I moved to the Cohen translation, which does not include all of the Essays, but has all of the major ones and is far more enjoyable.

I already have the full version with detailed Essays of Montaigne, but this small paperback version is one which goes with me everywhere. It is my handbook to life and thoughts. I've had this book for long, handed to me by my father. I find all daily life substance and teachings with me when I read these wonderful notes, which are not only the thoughts reflecting a person but almost everyone of us. The chapters 'On the power of the imagination' and 'On the uncertainty of our judgement' relates so much to our own daily thoughts and actions- when I feel I have the power to do everything and then bringing it down to reality ... but the words written here in these chapters again fills me with power and optimism but also with a touch of pragmatism. I find this book thoroughly engrossing and often get back to it. These Essays are what all-time classics are made of.

A Portrait of a Fascinating Bibliomaniac By Rebecca of Amazon "My library is in the third story of a tower; on the first is my chapel, on the second a bedroom with ante-chambers, where I often lie to be alone; and above it there is a great wardrobe...Adjoining my library is a very neat little room, in which a fire can be laid in winter, and which is pleasantly lighted by a window." Montaigne, On Three Kinds of RelationshipsFrom the start, Montaigne (1533-1592) shows his great love of writing about life and his ultimate pleasure: exercising his mind through the discussion of philosophy. He also loved to point out incongruity and excelled in making logical conclusions. His honesty seems to be his most attractive quality as he addresses the horror and beauty of life. At times he seems to almost be a reporter describing experience, detached and unemotional. Then when he delves into friendship he shows a new depth of emotion."There is no action or thought of mine in which I do not miss him, as he would have missed me. For just as he infinitely surpassed me in every other talent and virtue, so did he also in the duties of friendship." ~Montaigne, On FriendshipMontaigne's writing is at times a history lesson. He draws from the writings of Ovid, Cicero, Horace, Socrates, Plato, Seneca, Virgil and Petrarch. His topics are fascinating and get even more interesting when he talks about the custom of wearing clothes, the Platonic paradox or why churches use incense. He explores the power of the imagination, truth and error, friendship, why civilized man is at times no better than a savage in his actions and freely discusses his ideas about education.I must say that when he discusses books, this topic overflows and ends up in other essays. So, while the chapter on books may seem short, you will still find some excellent quotes later on while reading about the three kinds of relationships or "On Physiognomy," which seems to be more about the plague and death being inevitable and how philosophers contemplate death as a life-long exercise.I learned a great deal about Socrates and how the Athenians felt when he died and that swans sing when they die. It all seems unrelated, but somehow Montaigne casually introduces topic after topic with great intellectual flair. Finally we happen upon his survival when captured by a band of horsemen. Then, we understand why he has titled this chapter "Physiognomy," because he is saved by the kind look on his face and his firmness of speech. We also learn about his beautiful library. Later he discusses topics of interest like how Emperors built huge arenas that could be filled with deep water filled with sea monsters. These topics all seem related to his love of research. While he discusses history at length and loves to add in quotes, he is also a keen observer of human nature. He sees life so clearly and freely says what most people fear will offend. Like that when we find a fault in other people, it might be a fault in our character or how strong we have to be to handle being criticized and why there are remarkable proofs of friendship when someone gives constructive criticism. Of course, many would not agree with this, although our friends do see us rather clearly."One must learn to endure what one cannot avoid," becomes more relevant near the end when Montaigne faces his own death. He discusses life so casually and even tells us about what he loves to eat and still doesn't enjoy. Life's simple pleasures are still of utmost importance even when he is suffering greatly with illness. My blinds had turned golden in the early morning when I finished reading this book. I had the longing to sit by a fireplace and read another book by Montaigne. While it took three days to read the essays, this book almost ended too soon. Reading the essays was like discovering a long lost friend or a book through which we can live vicariously in another time and place.~The Rebecca Review

The racialized and exoticized cult of Voodoo occupies a central place in the popular image of the Crescent City. But as Kodi A. Roberts argues in Voodoo and Power, the religion was not a monolithic tradition handed down from African ancestors to their American-born descendants. Instead, a much more complicated patchwork of influences created New Orleans Voodoo, allowing it to move across boundaries of race, class, and gender. By employing late nineteenth and early twentieth-century first-hand accounts of Voodoo practitioners and their rituals, Roberts provides a nuanced understanding of who practiced Voodoo and why.

Voodoo in New Orleans, a mélange of religion, entrepreneurship, and business networks, stretched across the color line in intriguing ways. Roberts s analysis demonstrates that what united professional practitioners, or workers, with those who sought their services was not a racially uniform folk culture, but rather the power and influence that Voodoo promised. Recognizing that social immobility proved a common barrier for their patrons, workers claimed that their rituals could overcome racial and gendered disadvantages and create new opportunities for their clients.

Voodoo rituals and institutions also drew inspiration from the surrounding milieu, including the privations of the Great Depression, the city s complex racial history, and the free-market economy. Money, employment, and business became central concerns for the religion s practitioners: to validate their work, some began operating from recently organized Spiritual Churches, entities that were tax exempt and thus legitimate in the eyes of the state of Louisiana. Practitioners even leveraged local figures like the mythohistoric Marie Laveau for spiritual purposes and entrepreneurial gain. All the while, they contributed to the cultural legacy that fueled New Orleans s tourist industry and drew visitors and their money to the Crescent City.

When the Apache wars ended in the late nineteenth century, a harsh and harrowing time began for the Western Apache people. Living under the authority of nervous Indian agents, pitiless government-school officials, and menacing mounted police, they knew that resistance to American authority would be foolish. But some Apache families did resist in the most basic way they could: they resolved to endure. Although Apache history has inspired numerous works by non-Indian authors, Apache people themselves have been reluctant to comment at length on their own past. Eva Tulene Watt, born in 1913, now shares the story of her family from the time of the Apache wars to the modern era. Her narrative presents a view of history that differs fundamentally from conventional approaches, which have almost nothing to say about the daily lives of Apache men and women, their values and social practices, and the singular abilities that enabled them to survive. In a voice that is spare, factual, and unflinchingly direct, Mrs. Watt reveals how the Western Apaches carried on in the face of poverty, hardship, and disease. Her interpretation of her people’s past is a diverse assemblage of recounted events, biographical sketches, and cultural descriptions that bring to life a vanished time and the men and women who lived it to the fullest. We share her and her family’s travels and troubles. We learn how the Apache people struggled daily to find work, shelter, food, health, laughter, solace, and everything else that people in any community seek.Richly illustrated with more than 50 photographs, Don’t Let the Sun Step Over You is a rare and remarkable book that affords a view of the past that few have seen before—a wholly Apache view, unsettling yet uplifting, which weighs upon the mind and educates the heart.

Review "Her voice is a pleasure to listen to—kind, observant, with a this-too-shall-pass quality." —Los Angeles Times"Readers will find her unaffected honesty as enlightening as it is refreshing." —San Diego Union-Tribune"This outstanding account of an Apache woman remembering her family stories is a gem." —CHOICE Magazine“Her voice rings so clearly in the stories about three generations of her family that reading her words is almost as good as sitting at her kitchen table.” —Western Historical Quarterly

From the Inside Flap When the Apache wars ended in the late nineteenth century, a harsh and harrowing time began for the Western Apache people. Eva Tulene Watt, born in 1913, now shares the story of her family from the time of the Apache wars to the modern era, particularly offering a wealth of observations about the early part of the twentieth century--a dark and turbulent time when the Apaches' treatment as wards of the U.S. government left much to be desired. The largest body of historical accounts yet set down by a White Mountain Apache person, Mrs. Watt's narrative presents a view of history that differs fundamentally from conventional approaches, which have almost nothing to say about the daily lives of Apache men and women, their values and social practices, and the singular abilities that enabled them to survive. In a voice that is spare, factual, and unflinchingly direct, Mrs. Watt reveals how the Western Apaches carried on in the face of poverty, hardship, and disease. Her interpretation of her people's past is a diverse assemblage of recounted events, biographical sketches, and cultural descriptions that bring to life a vanished time and the men and women who lived it to the fullest. We share her and her family's travels and troubles. We learn how the Apache people struggled daily to find work, shelter, food, health, laughter, solace, and everything else that people in any community seek. We also gain new insight into how events such as the Great Depression and World War II affected the Apaches--and a new appreciation of the changing face of America as seen from a non-mainstream perspective. Richly illustrated with more than 50 photographs, Don't Let the Sun Step Over You is a rare and remarkable book that affords a view of the past that few have seen before--a wholly Apache view, unsettling yet uplifting, which weighs upon the mind and educates the heart. It is an exceptional work in Native American culture, history, and historiography that will be of lasting value not only to scholars in a wide range of disciplines but also to general readers interested in Native American lifeways.

About the Author A renowned moccasin maker and storyteller, Eva Tulene Watt is cultural advisor to the Nohwike Bagowa, the White Mountain Apache tribe's cultural center, was a charter member of the tribe's cultural advisory board, and also served as a key advisor to the Western Apache Place Names Survey. A recipient of the Arizona Indian Living Treasure Award, she lives with her son's family near Hon-Dah on the Fort Apache Reservation in Arizona. Keith Basso, whom Eva Watt invited to record her narrative, is University Regents Professor of Anthropology at the University of New Mexico and a leading expert on Apache culture, language, and history. Among his books are Wisdom Sits in Places: Landscape and Language Among the Western Apache, winner of the Western States Book Award, the Victor Turner Prize, and the J. I. Staley Prize; Portraits of 'the Whiteman': Linguistic Play and Cultural Symbols among the Western Apache; and Western Apache Language and Culture.

As a member of the White Mountain Apache living in Indiana with my four boys it made them proud of their heritage and as each of them read out loud the look on each of their faces as Eva describes places on the reservation they knew the exact place she was talking about. Their great grandma who is still alive in Whiteriver use to tell them a lot of similiar stories Eva talks about, the Soldiers in Fort Apache, and just life in general in the early 1900's seeing it in print just made the experience of reading the book as a family was just awesome!! as my 6 year old stated when we asked if he liked the book.

Later I found out, from my grandparents that Eva was a distant relative to me. She mentions her uncles, one of them is John Lupe; my great-great grandfather. I loved this book and was completely taken in by her stories. This book has become a treasure to me and the rest of my family's members.

By Virgil Alexander, Author "The Wham Curse" This book is a verbatim transcription of Mrs. Watt's interviews and stories of Apache life after the end of the Indian Wars and the modern reservation period. It is both an oral history and a revelation of Apache culture, tradition, belief, and lifestyle. As a person who has Apache friends and has enjoyed the opportunity to do volunteer work and teach college classes on the San Carlos Reservation, it was delightful to read the story in the Apache accented English, with it's distinctive word usage and cadence. It was also exciting to get a glimpse of Apache home life from her childhood, before the traditional lifestyle was diluted by the reservation, technology, and the influence of American society.Keith H. Basso, Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at UNM, has done a masterful job of allowing the story to be a truly Apache story both in viewpoint and the enigmatic way of the Apache to leave some things unsaid but implied. There are a few places in the narration where he adds a bit of explanation, but most clarification is given in end notes at the end of the book. This is certainly not a typical scholarly paper, but an accurate engaging real life story of drama, humor, love, hardship, and survival all told in Eva Watt's upbeat and energetic style. This book was fun to read, yet in a number of places inspired me to do more research on things that were not major events in the story, but opened questions I wanted to answer. A great book on several levels, this "good read" is now a valuable part of my research library.

Sophia looks & acts like she has been hit by lightening. But truthfully, Des is not too far behind!! I loved every page of this too short beginning and hated for it to stop for now. But we leave on a up note, so that is terrific. I suggest everyone start grabbing this series now, while its 'green.' (Very little joke) I don't give spoilers, you can read the author's synopsis, so I won't rehash it.I have a rating system I use, so here goes:Hero Rating. 5 StarsHeroine Rating. 5 StarsSexual Tension Rating. 5 StarsSex Scene Frequency Rating 4 StarsPlot Development Review. 5 StarsCharacter Development Review 5 StarsDialogue Review 4 StarsStoryTelling Review. 5 StarsStoryEnding Review 5 Stars cliffhangerOverall Review. 5 StarsWould I ReRead this Novella?? Another great adventure from Ava Claire again By Jamie Mounts Ava Claire as always done it again in this new series on the kinky side of love and lust. Although I miss Jacob and Leila, Desmond and Sophia have the same exact connection. I can see a lot of the power couple in this new couple. Sophia is a entertainment reporter looking for her big break after her break up with the man she spent her college years with that also cheated on her making her give up on love and Desmond has it all but dealing with the losing the love of his life and now only wants the D/s relationship with no strings attached. Sophia goes undercover at Desmond's BDSM club Hush to get her big story but has trouble being the submissive she is acting to be but once Desmond lays eyes on her after she puts another Dom in he's place and he's world starts to change. One look at Desmond and Sophia is ready to submit to him and him only. I can't wait to see where this adventure takes us. Who is going to change their mind about love? Will sophia submit completely? Will Desmond be able to let Caity go finally and move on with his life? All questions we are waiting for answers too. I can wait till the next book comes out.

I love Desmond and cannot wait to learn what happened in his past that continues to haunt him. I cannot wait to see how far he pushes Sophia. I like Sophia alot but I loved her when she showed how clearly she was fascinated by the BDSM stuff in the room and how excited she got from his touch, it felt like we were seeing the real Sophia. I am curious to see what happens with her co-worker Peter, not sure what is up with that. I also can already see where there is going to be some major issues down the line with her and Desmond having any kind of relationship due to her job and her recent assignment, can't wait to see how that unfolds. I love everything Ava writes and once again she has written another winner.

Sons of the Sun: Rise and Decline of the Fifth Dynasty, by Miroslav Verner

Review This well-researched study explores the complicated histroy of the royal line of Egypt's Fifth Dynasty. Using extensive archaeological evidence, as well as current theoretical opinion, Verner examines the political instability at the end of the Fourht Dynasty, the questions surrounding the lineage of the Fifth Dynasty kings, the dynamic changes that occurred throughout the period of the Funerary and Sun cults, and the development of the Pyramid complexes. A comprehensive and insightful work for those with a special interest in the Old Kindgom. -- Caitlin McCall Current World Archaeology

About the Author Dr. Miroslav Verner of the Charles University in Prague has been leading the excavations in Abusir since 1976. Drawing on his own experience as well as the full range of historical material from early excavations, Dr. Verner brings to life a world as distant in time as its uncovered remains are immediate and striking. His work is both scholarly and entertaining, making the passage into this ancient underworld at once an intellectual exploration and a fascinating adventure.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The Best By qalmaq Perhaps nobody knows more about the Vth Dynasty than Miroslav Verner. His archaeological work makes the term hands-on truly meaningful. This volume is what many have been waiting for. It is a detailed, closely argued and well supported evaluation of a highly interesting, very important period of change in the political and religious structure. Dr. Verner presents all the material relevant to the topic. He sites everyone who has written about it, comments on the various theories and makes his own arguments for why he supports one theory over another. There are lots of lacunae and areas of uncertainty. He makes sure the reader understands what is what. The illustrations could be better, but that is a publishing matter, not a problem of the author. This is an exception volume and, if there is an interest, a must have.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Excellent study of the Fifth Dynasty kings By JLee in this book, Verner brings together all the latest information available on the Fifth Dynasty based not only on the extensive Czech excavations at Abusir and Abu Ghurob, but also research by others. It is an invaluable resource and highly recommended for those interested in this fascinating, complex and confusing period. The first section of the book is entitled "The End of the Fourth Dynasty: What Went Wrong?"It includes the following chapters:Living Kings (a reign-by-reign chronology);Eternal Kings (the business of mortuary monuments and their provisioning and upkeep);Feast Days in Mortuary and Sun Temples;Standard and Improvisation: Remarks on the Development of the Pyramid Complex in the Fifth DynastySun Temples, andSanctuary mrt and the Royal Cult. The final section is entitled, "The Fifth Dynasty – a Time of Changes."As is usual with publications from Charles University in Prague, most of the illustrations are small and in black and white, but of high resolution and excellent black and white contrast.
