Miracles Can Happen By Steven Wall This book should be read by every C.E.O. who cares about his employees and wants to improve his company profitability; and should be required reading in every H. R. Department and business School. Mr. Morris has shown great courage and vision. He and Ms. Henderson-Wurst deserve to be given as much prime time publicity as possible to showcase the people in their book. I am 53 years old, born with Cerebral Palsy, trained as an Attorney, in London. I have never met an employer, with the vision of Mr Morris.

By Dawn Kinsey Able! is a revolutionary book that has made a tremendous impact on the way many of us approach people with disabilities. This eye opening book is a revealing account told form the prospective of an incredible CEO who had the courage to buck the system and hire people previously overlooked and unconsidered for employment. Then had the fortitude to challenge the status quo and give equal pay and benefits to his "challenged" workers - all the while out-producing his competitors and opening his doors for all to see. Included are stories by the individuals - from the staff, family members, care takers, and those who have seen first hand what true inclusion really means. The examples set by Habitat International should be shared with anyone whose life has been touched by someone with a disability to show there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There are people Like David Morris and companies like Habitat International and Walgreens with open doors willing and able to provide them with the opportunities and support they need. If you get the chance pick it up and share this book with families or friends in need reassurance and examples of people with severe disabilities who "make it" to lives of productivity and satisfaction. Able! is a gift and a true story of what it takes to make your own way no matter the odds.

Nancy Henderson Wurst captures in this book what David brings to the world, and we all need to know that compassion CAN live in the successful business world. I've also been lucky enough to meet some of those who David hired, persons who were "unhirable" by traditional standards. Wow, what a thing it is to see ABLE where others see "disabled". Just imagine what that does for that person. David brings compassion, harmony and ease into the bigtime corporate world and into the lives of everyone around him. Seeing David live his life, run his business and accept others is a major catalyst for the creation of a new business venture I am bringing to the world. Just last night I figured out how to also involve ABLED persons into the mix! It took 2 months of brainstorming but now I get to also try to make a little difference in the world, and I feel great ..thanks to David! No kidding, if you are a business person who has a yearning to also contribute to the world AS you do business then you should read this little book, I bet you WILL find some possibilities in there that will bring beauty to your life ..and to others. Have a good day.

"What was so terrible was the thought that it had been an accident, a freak, that an inch or two here, a moment or two there would have reversed history." -William Manchester, The Death of a President (1967), p. 645, describing Jacqueline Kennedy’s grief, based on taped interviews In October, 2015, declassified CIA documents revealed that John McCone (head of the CIA from November, 1961 to April, 1965) participated in a “benign cover-up” that was “intended to keep the Warren Commission focused on ‘what the Agency believed at the time was the ‘best truth’—that Lee Harvey Oswald, for as yet undetermined motives, had acted alone in killing John Kennedy.’” The JFK Cut-N-Paste Assassination offers an explanation for that “benign cover-up” and gives explosive new look at the JFK assassination. Starting with the discovery of a single out-of-place word supporting cover-up, Denise embarked on a journey into the assassination that would lead her through new discoveries of film alteration, photographic compositing, and overlooked evidence. Synthesizing her observations with work done by other researchers, Denise realized that what really happened in Dealey Plaza was unlike anything that researchers had yet theorized. They had all the pieces, but they hadn’t quite put the puzzle together the right way. The JFK Cut-N-Paste Assassination offers a startling new theory of the assassination, from the first shot to the last, (including support for the Donahue/Menninger Mortal Error theory of the explosive head shot) that explains the “Conspiracy” evidence, the cover-up, and the Warren Commission’s predilection for laying the blame solely at Oswald’s feet. This revised edition offers new insights into the acoustical evidence as well as other new observations and “finds” supporting the author’s “early shot cover-up” thesis. About the Author: Denise holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, a Master of Science degree in Education, and 59+ credits towards an Ed.D. degree in education. She was once a housemate to J.D. Tippit’s cousin, which partly explains her interest in the Kennedy assassination. She also enjoys solving logic puzzles, which explains another part of her interest. She has written a number of articles related to Deaf Education and/or technology. This is her first book.

By Josh Taylor For twenty plus years I've been reading assassination literature from both ends of the spectrum: Posner's Case Closed to Groden's The Killing of a President, and countless other accounts in between. What to believe? What are the actual facts? And most frustratingly, given the range of contradictory theories available to researchers, how to fully account for the seemingly disparate threads of evidence and eyewitnesses testimony that competing 'camps' present as truth?Denise Hazelwood's contribution to assassination research has, to my mind, done just that. Building on the Donahue Theory, the author sets out to put together the pieces of medical evidence, eyewitness accounts, acoustic and ballistic evidence, the photographic record, the government reaction, coverup and much more. When considered holistically under Hazelwood's arguments, a plausible and convincing theory emerges that accounts for 'what we know' to a degree more satisfying than anything I've read thus far. This work is well written and its thesis compellingly and earnestly argued. Highly recommended to any assassination researcher interested in an honest exploration of the evidence and in piecing together a fuller picture of the Kennedy assassination.

When Isaac Goodnow and five fellow New Englanders arrived at the junction of the Kansas and Big Blue rivers in March of 1855, they pitched a tent and launched a town. Harassment and homesickness almost drove them back east, but they held their ground to establish an anti-slavery and educational stronghold: the town of Manhattan, Kansas.Kevin Olson's lively history of Manhattan's founding illuminates the divisive forces that had to be overcome amidst the turbulence of the Civil War era and the sheer drama of building a town from scratch on the Great Plains frontier. With an eye for vivid detail and reflecting a native's deep knowledge of the city, Olson chronicles the first four decades of Manhattan as it grew from tent to town.Although spared much of the Bleeding Kansas violence, Manhattan saw its share of shootouts and lynchings in its Wild West days. Olson evocatively recaptures those rough-and-tumble times and effectively describes the town's key social and economic transformations. He also highlights the emergence of a college town and "New England village" by 1866, followed by Manhattan's growth and modernization in the 1890s.Drawing on town records as well as the personal papers of boosters, Olson mirrors the history of Kansas through the lens of this one community by interweaving ecology, relations with Native Americans, agriculture, literature, architecture, social mores, politics, economic issues, and university origins to recreate a vibrant cross-section of town life. His account of Kansa Indian settlement Blue Earth Village shines a light on a prehistory that until now has been little covered; his retelling of the emigration of the New England settlers recalls one of the most compelling stories of the antebellum era; and his coverage of the 1860s surpasses that of most previous histories.Written for general readers while boasting an impressive depth of scholarship, Frontier Manhattan takes us on a journey into the past to shop at Higginbotham and Purcell's or enjoy a stay at the Manhattan House hotel with jovial mayor Andrew Mead. With its strong sense of place and personality, Olson's book is as engaging as it is informative in celebrating the origins and early life of this quintessential Kansas city.

History of Manhattan KS By Wesley Paddock I live in Manhattan KS and I was excited to see this excellent work on the town that begins "at the beginning" and tells how this great town came into existence. It is a book worth reading for all history buffs, especially those who are interested in Kansas history.

It is a very graphic depiction of the town's beginnings, highlighting the influence of the founding fathers in the late 1800's when the area was simply hills and prairie grass. It is amazing how quickly the area grew and the impact of slavery and the eastern abolitionist had on the area. Another major impact was the rivers, trails, local college and nearby Ft Riley which still cast a huge shadow over the area. A good read for Kansas history buffs. Jerry Stanley

By frumiousb The Book of the Courtier is one of those books that you hear frequently cited, but rarely actually read. It seems a shame to me if it remains unread. I expected it to take me a while to wade through it. I expected it to be dense and difficult to penetrate. Instead, it read very quickly and easy. The prose was modern, lucid, and nearly compulsively readable. The book is structured as a conversational game carried out the court of the Duke of Urbino in the rooms of his wife Elisabetta Gonzaga. In four books, different members of the court sketch out the ideal Courtier and the ideal Lady. The books treat various subjects, including the nature of grace, love, humor, gender equality, and necessary skills. The unfamiliar details of the time are mixed with the quite familiar and recognizable human foibles that are still relevant today.Castiglione is perceptive and witty and quite loving in the way he draws the people in the book. Both the "real" people having the conversation, and the imaginary ideal people being described are well developed.I enjoyed it, and I recommend it. You don't need to be a scholar to enjoy it as well.

As a testimony to fifteenth century Italian Court Life it is unparalleled. This delightful four-part book at the social nobility of the Italian Renaissance opens with an apology by Baldesar on the quality of his writing. Something that was clearly debated after Petrarch, Dante and Boccaccio as there is somewhat of a lengthier side discussion on the merits of using the vernacular in written speech partway through the first `book'.The `handbook' opens with the matriarchal Duchess ordering that a game be played and that signora Emilia decide the nature of it. It is first set to Count Lodovico to describe those qualities best attributed to a courtier with the rest of the `players' questioning or discussing his points further. The Count states that a good courtier should possess charm, be handsome, be of noble birth, modest, physically fit, be good at sports, should both observe and imitate those good qualities of other courtiers, be a good dancer, have an appreciation of music, letters and art, not be affectatious, be an above average scholar in the humanities and that his first and truest profession be that of arms. Quite a long section is taken with a development on the theory of writing and letters which has many references to the desired quality of those in the ancient world. Indeed, Castiglione holds up those practices of the ancient world in high esteem as being worthy of the perfect courtier. The second book is to be continued by Duke Federico as to how and when the courtier should put the desired courtier qualities into practice. Castiglione prefaces the second book with a justification of why old people see the future as a depraved version of their golden era - almost a youth's retort to the aged question of rebelliousness.Federico opens by stating he believes the courtier should be considered, virtuous and adhere to certain rules. Above all else he must have good judgment. The second book is frequently `territorial' in nature, particularly in the section espoused by Bernardo Bibbiena on the three types of pleasantries. Namely: long and amusing narrative ; spontaneous thrust of a cutting remark (including puns) ; practical jokes. It is in the latter, which includes tales, that the poking of fun at inhabitants of various cities (for example, Sienans, Fiorentines, Brescians) occurs. Federico earlier makes mention that no young man should attempt wisdom and that no courtier should socialize overly with those beneath his station taking care in choosing your associates. The second `book' is effectively in two parts - Duke Federico's discussion on the rules of courtiership, Bernardo's discussion of the three types of pleasantries with many anecdotes to prove his points and then finishes with a epilogue discussing those practical jokes played by women after Gaspare denounces the practice. This proves a neat lead in to the third book for the Magnifico Giuliano to discuss fashioning a Court lady. As signora Emilia puts it: "To prove it, consider that virtue is feminine whereas vice is masculine."The third book is prefaced by Castiglione with short discourse on the superiority of the Court of Urbino to all the other Courts of Italy. The Magnifico then addresses the Duchess directly stating that a woman must not "resemble a man as regards her ways, manners, words, gestures and bearing." and must be beyond reproach or suspicion. He draw many parallels with the perfect courtier, then espouses excellence in subject knowledge, discretion, prudence purity, magnanimity, and appearance. The Magnifico then gives us many stories about great women, ancient stories from Camma to Argentina, from Roma toTheodolina, Theodora and Mathilda, medieval queens such as Eleanora of Aragon, Isabella of Naples, Tomyris of Scythia and many more. He continues with examples of continence, before finally ending his discussion by stating the greatest thing a Court Lady must know, is how to conduct a discussion on love. The fourth book is prefaced with a lament for several of those parties at the discussion who are now dead. The fourth book is mainly a discussion by Ottaviano giving an end to the perfect courtier. Namely that he be able to please his Prince and how to liaise with and deal with him It ends more as discussion on the nature of Princes. What Castiglione seems to be intimating is that the perfection of a courtier is determined by his Prince rather than by a standard set of rules. The discussion sidetracks into a discourse on the nature of evil and how to recognize and act on it. It links the concepts of agism and vanity to this discussion with several interjections from the oldest member of the group, Morello. The fourth book ends with a move towards discussion of divine love and there it ends. Whether Castiglione meant to continue or not is uncertain. Two things leap out about this courtier handbook:The first is how often Castiglione chooses to address the side issue of semantics, rhetoric and grammar. It was clearly an important topic of the age and more time is spent on that single theme that any other. The second is the constant reference to the ancient world an an ideal to be lived to. Particularly classical figures such as Alexander. This is not surprising given Jacob Bruckhardt's later 1860 essay on the Civilisation of Renaissance Italy, also refers to the "Revival of Antiquity' of the time. What does comes across very clearly in this book is George Bull's refined translation keeps in mind the nature of the subject matter and in itself espouses courtiership. It is precise yet fluid in its translating and can be considered the best english rendering of this great Italian Renaissance work to date. This work is a must-read for any serious student of Renaissance Italy.

Perched on top of a couple of hills in the region Le Marche, Urbino was ruled by the Montefeltro family. From 1444 to 1482 Federigo de Montefeltro skillfully steered his tiny domain through the rough storms of Italian Renaissance realpolitik. Federigo was a successful soldier of fortune yet maintained one of the largest libraries in Italy, spoke Latin, read Aristotle, helped orphans and in general earned the love of his people. He built a beautiful fairy-tale palace and had Paolo Uccello and Piero della Francesca decorate it.His less fortunate son Guidobaldo inherited this charming and well-run dukedom. Guidobaldo married the cultivated Elisabetta of the Gonzaga family from Mantua. He was an invalid and not made of his father's stern military stuff. A victim of the brilliant military campaigns of Cesare Borgia that so enchanted Machiavelli, Guidobaldo was temporarily deposed. When the Borgias (Cesare and his father Pope Alexander VI) died, the people of Urbino rose up, drove out Borgia's soldiers and cheered Guidobaldo and Elisabetta upon their return. For the next few years the court of Elisabetta and Guidobaldo was the most beautiful, enlightened, genteel place on earth. They attracted musicians, scholars and artists. Conversation was honed into a fine art. Into this paradise strode our Lancelot, Baldassare Castiglione, a diplomat descended from minor Italian nobility. He loved Elisabetta, but as far as we know the devotion remained platonicIt is because of Castiglione that we believe we have a sense of what the court of Montefeltro was like, or at least how they would have like to have been remembered. His "The Book of the Courtier" (Il Cortigiano) painstakingly analyzes the attributes of a gentleman through conversations (probably highly idealized) of refined visitors to Urbino. It's a long, slow, but thoroughly enjoyable book. It is a window into the renaissance mind. It does not describe how the Italians of the sixteenth century were, Machiavelli and Cellini are probably more useful there. But it tells how they wanted to be. The book was read and studied by nobility all over Europe. It's also how I wanted them to be. Urbino is one of my favorite places. It's a crowded student city now. But on a quiet morning when only a few people are about and the sun has made its way over the hills from the Adriatic, I can imagine that I can see the ghosts of Elisabetta and Guidobaldo walking on the cobbled streets outside their beautiful palace. Fussy, snobbish, yet kind and gentle Castiglione and his wonderful book help make that fantasy more real.Oh, and for you bike people, Castiglione married Ippolita Torelli.- Bill McGann, author of "The Story of the Tour de France"

Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) was one of the most influential artists of his day, producing work derived from “the most acute sensibility at grips with the most searching rationality” according to his friend, the writer Joachim Gasquet. Honoring tradition while also challenging it, his example made possible the advances of numerous younger artists such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Georges Braque, thereby paving the way for the emergence of modern art.   Cézanne’s novel approach was evident as much in his drawings and watercolors as in his oil paintings. While the hundreds of drawings that the artist left behind in his sketchbooks confirm the centrality of this medium to his artistic practice, his watercolors from the 1890s were undertaken as works of art in their own right. These latter efforts — most of them landscapes and still lifes executed in Provence in the South of France — rank among the finest achievements in this difficult medium from any period.   This beautifully illustrated volume traces the development of Cézanne’s style through his works on paper. Diverse in subject matter and execution, his drawings and watercolors include copies of other masters’ works, studies of his immediate family and their domestic surroundings, and preliminary ideas for finished compositions. They reveal Cézanne as someone deeply committed to devising a process for comprehending and recording the world as he saw it. The result is some of the most absorbing art ever created.

In this sketchbook readers will find spots they didn't even know existed and hear stories they never imagined. Emma overhears conversations in the bookstore, notices prom night in the Public Gardens, learns the recipe for McNabs famous Island lemonade, checks out Ashtray Rock, and finds out where the real fishermen live. Hand Drawn Halifax: Portraits of the city's buildings, landmarks, neighbourhoods and residents, by Emma FitzGerald

Review "Part journal, part sketchbook, Hand Drawn Halifax is a love letter to Atlantic Canada’s largest city." (The Globe and Mail)"Through her words and illustrations (a mighty combination) Fitzgerald notes those folk who are the bedrock of this city...Fitzgerald's illustrations are alive, shifting, swaying in front of your very eyes. She captures an essence while leaving out the bits and bobs the reader must go and see on their own, those integral aspects of a place that will only be found when you're there on your own, hunting for a piece of treasure." (Atlantic Books Today 2015-09-01)"A love letter to the city and it's diverse souls." (Jayson Baxter, CTV Live at 5)

About the Author

EMMA FITZGERALD was born in Lesotho, a small mountainous kingdom in Southern Africa. Her early travels have given her a large appetite for adventure. Combining her interest in people and places, Emma followed a career path that was part architecture, part art. She received her BFA in Visual Art at the University of British Columbia, spending her third year at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where she honed her drawing skills. She then completed her undergraduate and master's degrees in Architecture at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She has worked in architecture offices in Johannesburg, South Africa, and across Canada.

While working in Gambia, Emma took students onto the streets of their own communities, using sketching as their primary learning tool. When she returned to Halifax, drawing became an act of connecting with the many stories and unofficial histories of the area, a custom during her travels, but never before in Halifax. This laid the groundwork for her new book.

That's where the author and artist Emma Fitzgerald now lives.Hand Drawn Halifax is a charming sketchbook that captures the sights and scenes, buildings and everyday life of the city. The sketches are lively, loose and childlike in a way that they actually reminded me of Quentin Blake's style. These are sketches drawn on location with the colours added digitally later on.Each place or building featured is accompanied by a short history or the author's interaction with people she meets while drawing. She talks about the architecture, such as the Halifax Central Library that's designed to look like a stack of books, discovers a church that houses a concert at night, or talks about people dressing for prom, pitching a tent they bought online and other things she sees on the streets.Showing the places through sketches and observations has a nice personal touch. I enjoy reading and finding out about the neighbourhood and people. It's a lovely sketchbook. 128 pages, hardcover.(See more pictures of the book on my blog. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very nicely done! By G. McFarland This survey of filmmaking in New Mexico is jammed with fascinating details. From 1897 in the silent era to the present more than eight hundred short films, feature films, and television episodes included at least some scenes filmed in New Mexico. Readers will be surprised at the numerous major films and well-known stars that figure in Berg's account. Another detail of interest is the fact that New Mexico was the first state to establish a government office to attract Hollywood companies to work in the state. Although much of the text consists of straightforward descriptions of the films in question, these are enlivened throughout by Berg's thoughtful commentaries on individual films and criticism of the failure of many filmmakers to do justice to women and people of color. The many illustrations, both photographs taken on site and reproductions of publicity posters, add to the pleasure of reading this book.

"It's Daniels." All sixteen-year-old Faith Daniels, or Daniels for short, wanted was a chance. A chance to forget her dark past and forge her own future. But that's hard to do when your past is full of great darkness. Death always comes at a hefty price, more so, when you're unsure if you've carried out such a sentence. Given the chance to break free from her hometown with an officer by her side, Daniels will find out that sometimes it's not the past you have to be worried about; the future can be just as scary. Especially in a new town where three hot neighbor guys want your attention. As Tyler, Kayden and Lincoln McGuire try to break down the walls Daniels has formed; things get a little out of hand. Maybe it was the dumb mutt that kept harassing her or the crazy cop foster parent that seemed to keep her on her toes, either way; Daniels walls were cracking. Sometimes it takes more than just one guy to keep your walls down. To gain your trust. To help you love again. Maybe for Daniels, three hot guys was her lucky number. Or perhaps, it was all about the mutt.

Quite a few grammatical errors, which is rather annoying... but the story was good enough that they weren't too terribly distracting.Poor Faith. She's lived a rough life, I can't wait for her to get her happily ever after. She deserves it. And Officer Brady? You can't not love that guy. Two dislikes about the book: grammar, and the length (ended much too soon for the price).

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Only thing I would have loved more is if it was longer. By CDFYS As a fan of the Reverse Harem, I know it's so hard to find stories out there that are both well written and also an original that don't seem to be a rip-off of The Academy Series or are just a ménage story. Ms. Bolvair does a great job telling her own story and keeping the reader interested. For those earlier who commented about the editing, this book has been redone and I believe the majority of those issues have been solved! So sit back, relax and enjoy the adventures of Daniels and her boys!

By HelenK Normally, I overlook grammatical errors but the error are so sever in this read that it slows down the read. My advice to the author is that she really needs to get someone to read her work through before publishing. Beyond the errors, I love the story!! The drama is very engaging, makes me very eager to get to the second book!!!

In the Vietnam War, 2,197 helicopter pilots and 2,717 crew members were killed. Black Cat 2-1 is the story of one pilot who made it home and the valiant men he served with who risked their lives for the troops on the ground. Bob Ford invites readers into the Huey helicopters he flew on more than 1,000 missions when he and his men dared to protect and rescue. For those whose voices were silenced in that faraway place or who have never told their stories, he creates a tribute that reads like a thriller, captures the humor of men at war, and resounds with respect for those who served with honor. Black Cat 2-1 is a #1 non-fiction bestseller and Oklahoma Book Award finalist. ''This memoir is hard to beat.'' Air & Space/Smithsonian; ''Capably written.'' Publishers Weekly; ''Refreshing . . . evocative descriptions of combat flying. '' The VVA Veteran; ''. . . fills a gap in the genre of Vietnam literature.'' Foreword Reviews; ''They came in at 2:00 a.m. without any warning. The screaming roar from the rockets propellant was deafening, and all my senses froze as I tried to figure out what was happening. When the rockets came over our hooches on their way to our helicopters 150 meters north of our living quarters, they were no higher than one hundred feet above us. . . . At that instant, a rocket struck in the middle of the compound. . . . I was suddenly floating eight feet in the air looking down at some guy on a bunk.''

Black Cat 2-1: The True Story of a Vietnam Helicopter Pilot and His Crew, by Bob Ford

Review ''In the annals of war, no braver men have taken to the field of battle than the pilots who flew the iconic Huey helicopters during the Vietnam War. I saw their unwavering resolve time and again as they flew through withering gunfire to carry us safely away from the gates of eternity and bring us home. Bob Ford's account of his year in the command seat of his ship of salvation is a priceless contribution to the literary canon of that war.'' --David A. Maurer, Special Forces Veteran, Author of The Dying Place''Serving as a crew chief in Hue was a life-changing experience. It was an opportunity to serve with the best of the best, the cream of the crop. The pilots and crews were fearless. The bonds grew so strong that today when we meet, we still feel the connection. The Hue experience and these dedicated men will always be in my heart.'' --Heidi (Bud) Atanian, Crew Chief, Hue Detachment 282 Assault''When Lt. Ford joined the company, he rapidly became an aircraft commander. He soon commanded a detachment located in Hue, sixty-one miles from our company. During the Tet Offensive in January 1968, Bob and his crew flew hundreds of missions in support of US and ARVN troops. On all of these missions, they were under enemy fire. Bob exemplified the best qualities of an army aviator. He never let me down. I am proud of him.'' --Lt. Col. Chuck Ward, Retired, Commanding Officer 282 Assault

From the Inside Flap From July 1967 to July 1968, Bob Ford flew over one thousand missions in Vietnam. After the first six weeks, he became an aircraft commander and took over the command of a helicopter detachment at Hue, forty miles from the DMZthe farthest northern helicopter unit in Vietnam. His tour included the beginning of the siege of Khe Sahn and the Tet Offensive in February 1968 when he and his men manned the perimeter for a three-day and three-night ground attack. Ford made his commitment to flying helicopters when he was still in college at the University of Oklahoma. He completed ROTC training and received a commission in the US Army in 1966. He volunteered for army helicopter flight school and within one year was flying combat in Vietnam. When he completed his tour in Vietnam, he became an instructor pilot at Fort Wolters, Texas. Following his discharge in 1969, he moved to Okeene, Oklahoma, to head the Okeene division of the family flour milling business, which he still actively manages.

Author Bob Ford invites us into the cockpit of his UH1 HUEY helicopter, the workhorse of the Vietnam War, taking us along with him and his crew on a myriad sample of his missions in support of the troops on the ground. Serving in the northern-most region of Vietnam, adjacent to the DMZ, Ford flew over 1,000 missions, generally under fire. Sometimes we forget how young the soldiers are who represent us, protect us, and give up for us the time of their service, and, occasionally, even their lives. Ford's account of his and his crew's personal growth, character, and humor in the face of daily life-threatening missions, and of their dedication and commitment to our country, to each other, and to the troops on the ground is a compelling story -- a Must Read. I have read it through multiple times (Yes, really), and I can never stop reading -- or even slow down -- until he is back home on American soil.

People need to know that our war heroes are just guys we went to school with, work with, live across the street from . . . Bob Ford is an unassuming hero who was asked for several years to tell his story. He's not a professional writer but he does a pretty good job. About the only complaint I'd have is that sometimes it's just a bit TOO military and not every understands the phrases and comments. But maybe otherwise it wouldn't be as believable.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. "I'd do it all again ... and I'd do it for free." Bob Ford By Kenneth McGovern Well written. Bob Ford takes you with him to the furthermost aviation unit in Vietnam during the height of LBJ's escalation. In the middle of his tour is the Tet Offensive. He takes us from the heartland in Oklahoma to 1967 Vietnam. Over one thousand missions in one year. This is a thriller. I couldn't put it down. No political commentary. No gore. No foul language. Climb into a UH-1 Huey with Lt. Ford and meet the crew of Black CAT 2-1. He brings the time, characters, and location to life. He honors Dwight Dedrick and Gerald L. McKinsey Jr. and others who gave all. Despite the gravity of the situation - he manages to find levity along the way. The call with his beloved mother about whether he received the cookies she has been sending is priceless and illustrates how loved ones CANNOT come to terms with what's really going on. Each day his focus was on the men on the ground - this is where his efforts could, and did - make a difference. The book includes a glossary of Vietnam and military jargon and acronyms, photographs and letters.
